That's a great question! The reason "that matters" isn't placed after "it is" is due to a sentence structure called a cleft sentence. In English, a cleft sentence can be constructed as follows: 👉 It + tobe + [emphasized part] + that + [rest of the sentence] For example: ✔It is her profession that makes her happy ✔It was from John that she heard the news.
