There should be a big push of young people with this utopian view into independent politics to slowly nudge us into this direction. What will happen is; Humans will just shift taste towards things that are not automated, the highly unique stuff, making these more valuable than automated stuff. All automated things will be very cheap, close to common goods in terms of cost. But one thing that will happen for surre is a major decline in birth rates. Fewer humans means that there will be a higher incentive to attract and encourage real humans into places; cities, countires, restaurants, settlements or residential areas, etc.
The real problem with AI is the hard working coders are angry and depressed and are nihilists. If AI is bad it’s going to be intentional with lazy supervisors.
This scenario can only play out if AI takes over and becomes autonomous and decides to keep humans as pets. Otherwise, human nature will not allow this outcome.
AI won't succeed; it's all hype. We're in a bubble. What’s being called "AI" is just predictive text trying to match input, with no real intelligence. Companies investing in AI and cutting their workforce are foolish, driven by old men who just want the nicest Mac on their desk. This approach is already falling apart. "the world is a reflection of you", this applied to humans, and I think this is the truest thing I know. Now take that and wonder what people will buy, or spend money on. That reflection, will people want to pay for things made by AI, or will people spend their money on things made by humans. That I think is what people are wondering. How people will value human efforts vs AI.. I think AI art is amazing, but will people spend lots of money on AI vs human art?
Having some personal experience with AI, I can say there's still a long way to go, especially to reach singularity (if it's possible). I can definitely agree on the rapid pace of advancement, though this may just be due to the nature of coding and computers, where scale is a direct avenue of improvement. I like to use biological comparisons to rate the intelligence of AI. Right now I would compare it to an insect drone, which can react to stimuli, but only acts when prompted. However, just like the drone, we aren't sure whether we're dealing with nerve endings or an actual brain, and whether there is a degree of sentience or not.
Useless. What we call cognition in AI is useless. The word on the street is META-COGNITION - of the prefrontal cortex. Its just taken off in the last 100 years - like a bullet. And it cant be measured, so it cant be imitated by AI. And dude, it cant do nothin' but imitate. The reality: There are so many facets to human and bio intelligence that it will blow your mind to even try to consider them all. The attempts by AI cultists to foist simple minded shit on people and claim it some how measures up to biology are more than pathetic, they expose a weakness in thought. AI cultists dont look. They dont measure, they dont explore, they dont think. some have "multdiscipline" degrees in math and neuro-physiology, for example, but the lack of breadth in thier work exposes them as shams. The biggest ideas? Look at the incredible cognitive powers of cells. Look at EES and Evo-Devo. Cognition that will blow your mind exists at the... molecular level. What happens in the brain, when trillions of these super IQ cells join up? AI only copies. In rather clever ways, but thats all it does.
Meta-cognition explained Cognition is rather straightforward process. It can be imitated by machines.. But how does thinking occur? You can solve a problem in several ways - model it with math, build a prototype, or look at how the world works (thats called observational). Or do a thought experiment. in all those options we think about thinking. Metacognition. Its said to come from the prefrontal cortex. We dont know that for sure (more Metacognition).

The AI brain will just be another layer of our brains, connected by Neuralink or something like it. If we don't destroy ourselves first, many people will become super intelligent telepaths. The ones who don't will be left behind. Two different classes of people will form, the linked and the unlinked. Will there be a great war between the two groups?
Yes and no. AGI that's more intelligent than 95% of humans? Yes, that's very close. AGI that could make a breakthrough in physics like Einstein did? Nope, and not likely in the next hundred years either.
I am a big fan of Elon but he is terrible at predicting things. Prime example is his fully autonomous driving predictions of which he has failed each time predicting it.
Optimistic timeline imo. Closer to 3 years depending on computing resources. If processing power catches up to the demand, AGI is not my concern, but instead, runaway AGI.. Hypothetical intelligence growth rate: Current AI to early AGI + 3 years AGI intelligent as a squirrel + 1 month Squirrel to baby + 2 weeks Baby to (pre 2010s) teenager + 1 week Teenager to adult +1 day Adult to Einstein +1 hour Einstein to Everything + 20 minutes Everything to Runaway control... Seconds later. I'm an overly optimistic person who hates conspiracy theories, but has worked around some of this. This is truly the closest we have come to the Great Filter.
Agree up to adult. Adult to Einstein + 100 years... but nobody will notice either way -- too stupid to see the difference. It will start to dawn very slowly if the new shiny AGI fails to bring the next big breakthrough in physics 5 years after supposedly achieving "superhuman levels of intelligence"...
