How long do we have it set for a newborn? My baby is 3 months and 13 pounds! She has neck control
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 22 дня назад
As baby gets taller you can start to lower where you sit the waistband. You want little one’s head on your upper chest. When the waistband is moved lower, this will make the panel taller. You’ll want it on the narrowest setting until it fits on the medium setting and the lower legs can swing freely. This is generally around 6 months (depending on how long baby’s legs are). Make sure you’re getting a nice deep seat for little one (so bottom is lower than knees). Once baby has full head control baby can also have arms out over the top of the carrier. For this, you’ll want the waistband higher (to shorten the panel). Hope that helps!

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 24 дня назад
Sorry to hear this happened to you. You need to ensure baby's weight is on their bottom - with their knees higher than or level with their bottom - so they're 'sat' with their legs coming forwards, rather than with their legs straight down. If you have a watch of my video you'll see how to get a pelvic tilt, to help position them so their weight is correctly distributed. As I state above, the position is just for short periods of time but I hope that helps if you choose to use your carrier in this position again. However, there is no developmental reason baby needs to face outwards and you may find they are more comfortable inward facing - with arms either over the top of the carrier or inside. My video here demos how to do this with the Baby Bjorn Mini with arms out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QNX1uZs69aI.htmlsi=PYdk1dMs2sV5FI8M Hope that helps!

@SouthEastSlings Месяц назад
No problem! Yes, your carrier should fit nicely until around 9 months old so you've got lots of time left with it. Some babies never need the waistband rolled - if they're particularly long at birth. The height you do the waistband up is the key. The higher you wear it, the more fabric will be tucked between you and baby so the shorter the panel will be. You may well find it still fits with the panel rolled, but done up around your waist. Or you may find it fits better worn as high as possible, with the panel unrolled. Try both and see what works best for you and baby.

thanks! I rented the lennyupgrade but feel like the waistband has gotten saggy on that one and digs into my waist a lot - is this a problem with this carrier or is it that this rented carrier has been ”mistreated” you think? @SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 2 месяца назад
The waistband on the Light is more structured than on the Upgrade/Preschool so yes, it’ll feel more like the Isara the One waistband than the Upgrade. All the carriers I retail come with a 2 week trial period so if you do want to give one a go you have 2 weeks to use it as much as you like, to ensure it’s right for you. If you like it you keep it. If for any reason it’s not right for you, return it at the end of the 2 weeks for a refund of the purchase price, minus the 2 week hire fee (£15)
@karoline6239
@karoline6239 2 месяца назад
Hi! Do you prefer this one or lennyupgrade?
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 2 месяца назад
As with many questions to do with carriers, the answer is “it depends” So the Lenny Light fits nicely from birth. The Upgrade tends to fit best from around 4 months upwards. So for a newborn I’d 100% choose the Light. For an older baby, each carrier has pros and cons. The Upgrade is a bigger carrier, height wise, so will last longer. You adjust the panel height on the Light with a webbing adjuster. The Upgrade uses buttons. So the Upgrade tends to be one you set at a fixed height whereas the Light you can adjust once baby is in. The Upgrade comes with a hood and an adjuster to tighten behind baby’s neck. The Light has a magnetic chest strap (the horizontal strap you use when back carrying, or if worn on front with straps straight). The Upgrade as a buckle chest strap So they’re similar but different and each person has individual preferences. Hope that helps!

Hi there, from what age do you recommend baby carrying? Especially twins?
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 2 месяца назад
Thanks for your question. You can carry baby (or babies) from day one, providing there are no additional health needs, and a sling/carrier is used that is appropriate for their size and weight. Lower birthweight/premature babies will have lower muscle tone than full term/average birthweight babies, so it's very important that they are held securely so they can't slump (the same is true for all babies but even more so for smaller babies). If you're at all unsure about using a carrier for your little one(s) it's worth seeing your local babywearing consultant (or booking a video call, if you don't have one locally) to run through it all in person, to ensure you feel confident. But yes, you can carry from day one if you want to 🙂

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 3 месяца назад
Make sure you’re pulling the straps at the right angle. If you pull them so they’re running parallel they’ll tighten easily. If you pull them at a different angle they’ll be much harder to tighten. If your carrier is brand new you may also find the straps are a bit stiffer. If that is the case, spending a bit of time running them back and forward through the buckle will help to soften them.

Yes, you can side carry a 3 month old. If you see my video for the Mini Monkey Twin carrier you’ll see you have one baby either side, from newborn Whichever position you choose for your little one, the key things are: 1) Their airways are clear and unobstructed 2) They’re held securely so they can’t slump Hope that helps!

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 4 месяца назад
Knee position is not a safety issue. As long as little one has clear airways and is held securely, so they can’t slump, they are safe. Look at little one’s position when held in arms. Does he curl his knees up or is he quite straight? There are lots of reasons why baby may be straighter and also things you can do to encourage a more comfortable/ergonomic position for them: 1) Think about how you’re holding little one in your arms. Are they held across their back or under their bottom? If you can support them under their bottom, their body is likely to curl in towards you. This gives a gentle curve to their spine and their knees will naturally curl up. 2) Similarly, when bringing the carrier up over baby’s back, slide the panel from under their knees, up to their shoulders (as shown). You don’t need to support their bottom or back - just lightly rest your hand against their shoulders to support them while you do the carrier up. 3) Once you’ve put baby in, the key checks are: does baby have clear airways with carrier top edge no higher than earlobes? Are they held securely so they can’t slump? Once you’ve checked these don’t instantly feel you need to adjust positioning too, unless baby is unsettled. Check they look comfy (eg legs aren’t going backwards, back isn’t arching) then go for a little walk around the room. Babies like movement! If you do want to adjust their knee/leg position you can gently adjust to bring the knees higher and round in towards you (as shown). As said above, this can help to give a gently curve to their spine and allows their head to naturally rest against you. It also takes any pressure off their tummy which - especially if they’ve just fed - is likely to be more comfy for them. Hope that all helps! If you want to book a video call to go over everything in person feel free to get in touch.

I struggle getting my baby in the carrier because she likes to move her head a lot and move a her body a lot so its hard for me to keep a tight grip, and I end up needing help putting the Carrier on, maybe I just need more practice, shes 4 weeks old, but any advice?
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question. So first of all, take your time. Then here are a few tips: Try to support baby under their bottom, rather than across their back. This may feel counter-intuitive but - if supported under their bottom - their knees will likely tuck up and they'll curl their body against you. If you support them across their back or tummy, their legs and head will go backwards and they'll be hard to support. I find using my chin to gently support baby's head, while supporting them with one hand under their bottom, can help too. You may find sitting down to do this the first few times will help, as you can lean slightly backwards (which helps support baby against you). Make sure you slide the panel of the carrier up from the waistband - over their bottom, their back, then up to their shoulders. This means you're supporting them at all times. When holding them in the carrier - before doing it up - rest your hand across their shoulders, rather than holding them under their bottom or across their back. This will help them feel secure. Hope those tips help!

@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question. So for the first 3-4 months babies generally curl up with their knees above bottom but knees no wider than hip width. It's important not to over-extend them. At around 3-4 months their muscles have developed so their legs than wrap around the wearer. Leg positioning is not a safety issue - it's more about comfort for baby and supporting them ergonomically. To achieve an optimum ergonomic position want to ensure that baby has a decent pelvic tuck, so they have a gentle curve to their spine (I'll link to my video going into this in detail below). Their knees will then be above their bottom, with knees around baby's hip-width apart. Their lower leg should hang straight down and be able to swing freely. If you need to move the zip a little way to support them like this (e.g. if baby is very long for their age) then you can move it a small way across. Maybe an inch (2.5cm) or so. If you're not sure whether to make it wider or not, it is better for the carrier to be a little too narrow than too wide. It is really important not to over-extend baby's legs. Hope that helps! Here's my video going into more detail about pelvic tuck: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N4a4lCLzDhE.htmlsi=8UrsCIxsiB_c3e5O It shows with both a stretchy wrap and a buckle carrier

Hi, how would i need to adjust the sling for a 3 month old please? Or can I follow the same rules for the newborn. Thank you!
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 6 месяцев назад
Hi! Thanks for your question. My suggestion would be to try it on the newborn setting first of all. Then the following adjustments may be needed, depending on how big your 3 month old is: You may need to make the velcro adjuster slightly wider (probably adjusted to between the first and middle setting). Ideally the carrier should fit from one knee to the other, so the lower leg swings freely. Depending on how tall you are and how tall baby is, you may need to sit the waistband a little lower on your body than is shown in the video here. The lower the waistband sits. the taller the panel will be over baby's back. You'll still want to ensure it comes up to the nape of baby's neck. You may also want to undo the piece that's done up behind baby's neck and flip it over onto the outside. This piece closes the gap behind baby's neck when they're newborn but may not be needed at 3 months. Hope that helps!

Hello, your video is years old but anyway I hope you will answer me. I've read the manual many times I've checked many videos, but I'm still not sure when I want to adjust the size; WHERE IS THE RIGHT PLACE BE THE NUMBER I NEED ? Is it from the inside where the plastic clip is ?? (0:30-0:42 sec.) ?? Or from the bottom, from the inside of that (let's say) tail? And if it's from the inside of that tail, the number should be where is the plastic clip or where is that plastic line?? Nowhere have I seen a clear answer to such an important detail, I suppose
@SouthEastSlings
@SouthEastSlings 7 месяцев назад
Hi Olga, Thanks for your question. So the reason no one really mentions the numbers is, unfortunately, they're fairly meaningless as it all depends on how long baby's torso is (not how tall they are overall). For a newborn, the important thing is that the top edge of the carrier (when folded) comes up to the bottom of baby's earlobe but no higher. Once baby has head control (around 4 months old) the top edge of the panel can sit lower but must be at least to baby's armpits. If your baby is newborn, start with the panel adjusted to the shortest setting. Try the carrier with baby (they'll be facing inwards at this stage). If the top edge (when folded) comes up to the bottom of their earlobe then this is the right height for them. If the carrier is too low over their back, you can make it slightly longer. If the carrier panel is too tall, you'll need to wait until baby has grown a little. For facing outwards, baby needs to have full head control and be at least 5 months old. They can then either have arms inside the carrier (coming out through the gaps) or over the top edge. If they have arms out, you want to ensure the top edge of the carrier comes up to their armpits. If they have arms in, you want to ensure the top edge of the carrier (when folded) comes no higher than their chin. It's about trying different panel heights to see what is right for your baby. I hope that helps!

Oh dear! This is very much a carrier for a specific need (e.g. after baby has had surgery to their tummy or, for whatever reason, a tummy-to-tummy carry isn't possible). Seated sideways is a harder position to achieve. If you're trying again, take your time - there's no prize for doing it quickly. You can stop after each stage/movement for fabric - have a little walk around with baby held - then progress to the next when you're ready. This will keep you calm and help to prevent you getting hot.

@SouthEastSlings

So the Scootababy is quite different to pretty much any other baby carrier. The closest type of carrier to it would probably be a ring sling or a pouch sling. You can use lots of different carriers for hip carries, and some you can combine two carriers, wearing one on either side. However the specific method shown here is for the Scootababy. With different carriers the method would also be different. Hope that helps!
