He does something to the harmony of this tune right? Anyone catch what it is?

of all the versions of this cut on youtube, this one has the most fidelity and best displays his genius, higher-pitched tuning on the main theme

所謂、巨泉さんの名付けた「中間派」がピッタリのトランぺッター。スインギーな感じがとても良い。50年近く前に京都のJAZZ喫茶で初めて聴きました。

Loved it!! Been listening to this kind of jazz for years, many years. Bird,Diz,Bud, Ray and Max were my introductions to bebop. If my mind serves me correctly, I believe Dizzy also played the piano on the original disc I’m 93, it’s nearly one in the morning, and I’m still tapping my feet when I hear this record

I like that brush drum stick. Cymbal strokes , then is it the Obo string then throw in the upper case turning of the piano , of course the trumpet it has the very 60's feel which you would get when seeing these hip 60's movies ; I love it ! 😊

10 years late to the video and many more years late to the recording, but the more I hear Dexter Gordon play on some of my favorite old standards, the more I come to hear that he may very well be the link or the bridge between swing and blues and ballads and bebop all rolled into one person. Sonny Rollins may be the more impressively forward thinking and reaching player while maintaining a solid swing influence, Coltrane may be the more ethereal and fearless discoverer, but Dexter seems to be the one player (at the very least as far as great tenor sax players are concerned) that was able to be all of what he was at once and in every tune: whether a ballad (Darn That Dream) or a swing tune (as we see here), or any tune approaching bebop (many from him, given his style), he somehow managed to walk between the few decades and styles surrounding him - which he had the privilege of living through - to make a sound as timeless as he seemed to be. Even as an adult beginner learner of jazz piano, I love Dexter Gordon for being one of those people who makes all things seem possible, and all at once.

This is magical. Ray does something a great many jazz pianists don’t quite do, even some of the most accomplished ones: he makes the instrument SING!!!

Recorded in late July 1961 in Los Angeles with the talented pianist/arranger Wynton Kelly (who died at the young age of 39 of an epileptic seizure, while in Canada for a gig, and reportedly with very little money) and Leroy Vinnegar, one of the great jazz bassist of that era, and among my personal favorites. I discovered Joy Bryan through her connection with a 1963 NBC television special about jazz singer Lee Wiley ... "Something About Lee Wiley" starring Piper Laurie as Wiley and Joy as Wiley's singing voice. I've always been a fan of "My Funny Valentine" and Joy really does a splendid version of that tune here.

As someone pretty new to Dolphy, it feels to me like the bass clarinet is sort of a clarinet and sax merged magically together--and at times with a didgeridoo as well!
