It's not about how much advice you go through; it's about how much advice goes through YOU.
Wonder why self-development is so difficult, even though you know the actions that successful people take? Because it's about time you focused on how people THINK, not what they do.
I think working hard is only 1 contribution to success, there is a Chinese saying 一命二运三风水,四积功德五读书,六择业七择偶,八交贵人九养生 Studying hard education is only ranked 5th.
Game changer!!! Before watching this, I decided I was getting rid of FB, Instagram, TikTok & RU-vid tonight. This was confirmation. I’m excited to provide an update in 6 months.
Isn't this a pretty immature and reductionist worldview? It's great advice for a specific type of person (who may be drawn to this flavor of content), but there should be a huge disclaimer that it's not broadly applicable and goes against basic psychology of motivation.
Jungkook said: ‘you should be the main character of your life’ every time someone says how he loves him and is ready to give him the world, he says please cheer yourself up and give yourself this love first, all of them say that and by loving them this deeply i understand how to love myself too, they kinda showed me, that’s how i got my self esteem even though it’s so hard to fangirl myself it’s, easier with their help
I've joined a post graduate degree but still don't know what I want. I want to work hard and change myself. But the questions my mind pops is "Is it too late?" Will I get the life I want? "Should I be satisfied with what I get no matter what?".
Work hard, till you have mental issues. You are not enough the way you are! You need pain, likes slaves needed pain. You need pain, because of original sin, and Jesus suffered, so you should too. You need pain, because someone is trying to profit off of your pain. Now go out there and prove you can make a richer person money! That's your value, because obviously this Western culture has screwed your self esteem. Now, go and do EVERYTHING RIGHT, and find out that the economy is incredibly unstable, the age of cheap energy supplies is over, and houses are unaffordable unless you have a great salary. But don't worry about society! Try to be on the of 20% who can raise the ranks into ... maybe being a doctor... in a country where we make people sick with fast food and our hyperconsumerism. EXPAND YOUR MIND LADY! I can see the anxiety instilled by your authoritarian Asian parents! You are following your authoritarian conditioning! STOP IT! Learn about life yourself first! Stop this individualist BS! It won't help anyone! The future is NOT bright in the world no matter what you do financially. Inflation is PERMANENT. Study the economy, you'll be surprised. It depends on fossil fuels and they are no longer cheap. Your conversation about farming and all that BS is ridiculous. We SHOULD BE farmers. Our SOILS have been degraded so MUCH over the past century! So now are bodies are lacking nutrients and minerals! But your world view is SO LIMITED. The LAST person who would take a philosophy class! And the first person who needs it!
I really liked this video because when my dad told me one da how much and how hard he had to work for everything i felt exactly like you said, the need to push myself too. ❤
"I must study politics and war, that our sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. Our sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry and porcelain.” -John Adams
Holy crap, i needed this, after couple of hardships i fell into a slump, but after this i feel like i need to get back to it, consistency may be hard to achieve, but im just still gonna try!
this just feels like such a weird and jaded way to cope about a system that people have genuine strife over. Like ppl don’t wanna study cause school sucks, it’s expensive and most of the time it doesn’t even get you a job anymore. Like…interesting story about ur grandfather but news flash we don’t live in China lol.
speaking from india, the part that is near China, currently I'm kind of like in your dad's position and no other video could give me more strength than this did . i didn't feel i was listening to a motivator instead I felt i was listening to my elder sister. thank you and this was the first video of yours that i have seen .
I'm also the child of an immigrant, and also did math competitions in middle school. I remember being frustrated about being dumb, because no matter what, I'd always come third behind my friends, and I thought it was just an IQ diff. Then I got older and found out my one friend had a scientist father helping her, and the other had their older brother tutoring them, who had gone through math competitions also. My parents came from villages too, but stopped being able to help me after 5th grade. I used to beat myself up when I was younger for not being smart enough, thinking I just wasn't working hard enough but now I realize that even though we're both childs of immigrants, I'm closer to playing your dad's generational role than your generational role. No one in my family knew anything about college admissions, or competition, learning hard subjects, or routines. Anyways it didn't end up really mattering thankfully, I got a fancy tech job even though I went to a mediocre school, somewhat like your father. Only now did I connect that comparing myself to first generation immigrants instead of their children is a more apt comparison for me, I never thought of that before. Thanks
Sorry but I feel like you just talk about your life and your parents ones. I'm 14 minutes into the video and I feel like I did get nothing from this video. I could watch a movie with poor people who doesn't have education, it'd give me the same motivation. Don't want to be rude, but yea.. Try to summarize your ideas instead of spreading all your feelings about how lucky we are. Still, thanks for making videos like that !! Keep doing it
Thank you for the reminder! A lot of people don't know how many opportunities they have around them that can help them get into a much better position in life.
Amy,no wonder you are so smart. you are good at thinking things differently. Yeah, if everybody can take a piece of advice and stick to it consistently enough, anyone can see the growth to some extent. Self-sabotage, self-doubt,depression wouldn’t bother us that much. I am my own boss and gonna take actions right off the bat. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for this video. I really loved 10:42 in your video. Your story is something to remind ourselves that it is not the cards we are dealt with, it is the hand we play.
In conclusion, we should work hard and strive for more because we should repay those who gave the time and effort to give us the opportunity to succeed. Some can say this is a good mindset to have and in a sense it could be. However, if your whole reason to succeed is that you feel an obligation to give back to those people, then it ruins your ability to want to succeed for yourself. This is especially apparent in the types of jobs that Asians particularly choose, such as doctors and lawyers. In the end, they are unhappy with their lives because they worked hard to fulfill the happiness of their parents and never themselves. Basically, it's always good to have a balance of working because you want to, but also working to honor those who allowed us to be where we are.
At 25:30 you mention students just getting out of school at 9:30 having spent their entire day at school. What are they getting for all the time spent? Or time wasted… Seems that it’s better to learn what you really need to learn, get good, at it then move on..
I'm literally sobbing even though my family went through the same thing. I think hearing the same story from a stranger hit hard and in a different way.
In my country, spotify didnt have podcasts allowed and FINALLY after searching and searching I found it! Im so happy since my holidays just started for high school! Love ya! Amy
