Good discussion. Would like the next discussion with real numbers and real cases. Just like the way Abdul started with Shell but with more detail. Tax Analysts should break down an MNC's finances from public CbCR to see the probably outcomes under Pillar 2. That would take this discussion to the next step.
Warren is a very smart person . They really need to go after the self employed especially the smaller scale business they are all cheating and writing off fake items or personal use items . I have seen tax returns for many that live the good life and on the 1040's are so off and show them as making less than 10 k a year . That was the real reason for NO DOC mortgages . Self employed it is safe to say 98% cheat and the US system is losing billions a year in tax revenue .
That doesn't really work, because countries are set-up so differently. There are countries without any taxation, usually due to natural resources. Others do not have a formal form of taxation, but demand other forms of payment from their citizens (I very much recommend CGP Grey's excellent video "Rules for Rulers"). Then there are countries that highly tax individuals, but provide great benefits. Take Europe. Of course you have people who disagree with high levels of taxation, but many are happy with high taxation levels because they do not have to pay any extra money for child care, education, and health care and there are societal benefits to taxes acting as an equaliser. So depending on the country, different levels of taxation make sense. The same can't really be said about multinational corporations, since they operate on a _multinational_ level, it makes sense to have rules that apply globally.
Well who knew that Charles actually skimmed 1% of 2022 tax revenue for himself. Really he did just that. Justice has prevailed. Charles will not be spending that money.
Are PTE refunds taxable on the federal level? Are State income tax refunds taxable when you standardize but utilize a PTE deduction on the federal level?
As someone who just happens to be a dual citizen, I would would just renounce my US rather than engage in an expensive legal fight that can't we won. I say because there has been several other cases like this where the US government ended up the winner.
Thank you for this important work and info. It seems the US government hates people. Damned if you stay here because they will punish you somehow. So you leave and you get punished by citizenship based taxation.
He has just answered the insight that the Census Bureau has been trying to ascertain ..,as I glance at an advertisement for deferred capital gains taxes...generally acquired from deferred' compensation arrangements ..employer-employee arrangements
Incentive health, don't punish it. I like the tax credit idea, everyone is looking to get any tax relief they can and this would be an obvious one they can benefit from and all of society as a result! Great discussion.
We all know that FATCA is simply a data, autonomy, money grab. C'mon! The USA is THE biggest tax haven in the world! FATCA is completely illegal and the rest of the world needs to say F-U to the IRS.
At this point the tax seems to benefit the already globally established economies, not poorer nations, with less investment capabilities in establishing global companies or corporations. A percentage of foreign profit tax needs to be awarded to the government treasury of the countries of profit origin.
No we should not tax the unvaccinated. People make bad health choices all the time. Medical field still give care to people who had a drug overdose or obesity. I am tired of dividing the vaccinated and unvaccinated. People know the health and should do what they need to stay healthy.
When these speakers are awfully vaccinated with all the vaccinations that 1st responders get then I might listen to a word they say but while I still have to go to work and share toilets with people who have herpes HIV and hepatitis and I'm not allowed to ask them about their vaccination status on those items they should shut their mouths when it comes to this idiotic covid
Eliminate taxes of interest earned in bank accounts. Saving -- and investing -- should be encouraged. Intelligent argument given by both sides... thank you Tax Notes !
Generally in favor of removal of the rate for reasons expressed but would like to switch to some form of cash flow system to alleviate some of the lock-in effect.
