I'm a bee keeper and been stung many time and just get an itchy lump. This week I was stung 27 times by an angry hive. I was fine for 10 minutes but then felt very ill and knew I needed some antihistamines so made my way to school (I work there and have hives there). On the way I started to feel worse and thought I was going to collapse, I couldnt breath very well or see much at all. By the time I got to nurse I was incredibly unwell and she gave me an epi pen shot and phoned an ambulance. For me it was the sheer amount of venom in my system

Immediately put salt on a moist piece of paper or towel. Hold it on the sting place and the venim will absorbed in the salt

*Where on the body can you use it if the thigh is unavailable?* *What would happen if it is used on a bicep, back, or chest?*

Thank you for the very useful video. Can the injection help mitigate the reaction from poison of a snake?

*GREAT QUESTION!!! I'm eager to get an answer to your question. Although I am NOT a medical professional on any level, I'd like to offer my guess to see how far off I am on my ignorance.* 🤔 🧐 *I would say NO, do NOT use it after snake bite because I think an Epi shot (adrenaline) will speed up the heart rate and therefore may allow the poison to cause damage faster.* 😉

One year ago I got stung by 2 wasps, one after the other (face and shoulder) Which was of course very painful, but after 10 minutes it subsided and there were no further reactions. Five days ago I got stung by one wasp on the shin, but this time about half an hour later I started to develop a rash in my groin and under my arms, and then quite rapidly from head to toe about 10 minutes after that. My lips started to tighten up and felt tingly, so I drove myself to ED where they just gave me an antihistamine and monitored me for about an hour. I did not have any difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, horse voice, or low blood pressure. So I guess my reaction was cutaneous only, but I don’t really know. Five days later it feels like I still have a little bit of residual itchiness going on, but there are no visible signs of hives; Hopefully this goes away. It’s annoying to have any reaction at all, but I guess I’m very fortunate that it was only hives and a bit of swelling of the lip, I’m now wondering what are the chances that this can worsen with every new sting to a point where I can be full anaphylaxis?

I got to doctors on time and he gave me iv injection and symptoms revered in few hours. I was about to pass out but didn’t happen fortunately. Not sure what will happen if this occurs again 😢

Very helpful information. I've recently reacted badly to an apple, and been eliminating food unsuccessfully for for 15 years in an attempt to reduce IBS. I had been refused allergy testing several times so I bought an IgE + IgG4 test. I had a lot of positives, but did follow up with their nutritionist. Im glad I did as the results alone couldn't help me make the right changes to my diet. Based on the results and her advice, my GP is finally referring me to an allergy clinic. I also learned more about cross related allergies, which is why I can’t eat most fruit and veg, and reacted to the apple. I knew since young that I had a milk allergy but... The real kicker was finding that I had a higher reaction to gluten (oats), soy, rice, and almond... all the alternative milks I had been using for years! Three days of making adjustments and the supposed IBS had gone! I would recommend testing but only to gain medical and nutritionist support, when all else fails.

This is interesting to hear. I've been going to my GP with increasing dietary issues for 15 years. I had a very bad reaction to an apple last week. I contacted the surgery and was told via message, to rub a piece on my arm and test myself. I was shocked! No history asked and made to feel like no one really cared how ill I was feeling. Ive had anxiety, hayfever and asthma and lifelong, IBS 15 years, and mental health issue for two years, plus 'countless' other symptoms that I now believe could be allergy and intolerance related. Plus I have ADHD which may be food affected. So feeling quite overlooked and overwhelmed, I have sent my samples off. If that means a GP will at least take notice and arrange clinical testing to follow up, then it's worth every penny. If they don't listen, at least I'm trying to help myself.

Thank you. I have avoided anti-inflammatory medication for over 30 years, especially Naproxen, due to it aggravating asthma, unless there's a rare but greater need for one or two days.

I got stung 2 days ago n though I've been treated, I'm still itching and the spot still stings....I hate these allergies..... it's crazy that I ve been stung by bees and wasp plenty of times in my childhood, and now that I'm 29, I'm super allergic. Last year, I had a bad allergic reaction, too. I broke out in hives from head to toe. My face literally didn't look like my face.

I am a 39 year old women. I have been stung many times in my life by different bees. 2 days ago i was stung by a yellow jacket and within 30 mins i was in anaphylaxis. Initially it was just local pain to the area. Then extreme itchiness everywhere, next was profusely sweating, then my lips went numb and that’s when i new something was wrong. Ambulance showed up within 30 mins of the sting and i was completely swollen in my face, hands and feet. Couldn’t breathe well. It was not good and scared the crap out of me. Im going to get my epi pen today because i just feel so uneasy now without having one handy.

My son has ana to fish .crab and blue muscle the worst . It started at weaning stage , tuna caused red cheeks ,croaky throat ,cod fish fingers was next ,this was 24 years ago , no information was given only as he got older to give him piriton . We were not aware it was life threatening . I never gave him any fish , as a teen he would go to chip shop not eating fish , chips which were cross contaminated . Causing huge lumps . Or swelling of mouth , or eyes if he rubbed them after touching counters . Hes worst ana reaction was when he was given veg stirfry which contained fish extract . His reaction was really bad , full ana requiring a and e . After this he would not eat , he lost 2 stone ., had anxiety which is now at age 25 after many reactions .pts ocd . No eating out .no prepack foods . Even though all food is home made he is still no better . It affects all the family ,because uf they come into the house ,they need to wash hands ,to have not eaten fish , but he still dosnt trust anyone only me his mum . He rarely goes out , he dosnt mix with people , You should stay away from cafes , restaurants, sorry to say , because ana can be caused by young people working in Saturday jobs ,unware of fish or peanut allergies . Its not worth facing death which can happen. Goin on holiday for us to spain was hard ,all ingredients were in spanish . Be aware the language barrier causes difficulties . It dosnt get easier with diagnosis .it gets worse when a child becomes a young adult .they realise its serious .

Dr Adrian Sie - is there any research available on airborne and contact reactions to specific allergens ?

Yes, but what is your specific question? There is research into the range travelled by peanut allergens after opening a bag of peanuts, for example
