For house plants use a layer of playground sand above the soil. No pesticide needed. They'll be gone within 2 weeks with this method. You want to hold moisture on top 4" most important part of your substrate.they can't burrow threw sand if there's no soil visible so put rocks around edge of pot & sand method again. It works for me. Make sure you treat other areas they could be going to garbage,litter boxes, drain pipes.... Without doing full treatment for them you will run into issues

First time hearing about a fungus nat. Do know that there are such things as a fruit nat. You can find them around fruits of different types especially fruit that have the skins broken but aren't rotting, if said fruit is laid out over night. Perhaps the fruit nat and fungus nat are one and the same however, I've never seen nats around anything that has a fungus on it...fruit beginning to rot yes but, not fungus growth. I have seen nats around rotted fruit that has begun to mold. Mold and fungus are 2 different things. They're very distinguishable. Fungus is like what grows in your yard eg., toad stools or fungus that grows on dead wood out in the forest or on a wood pile that has wood which has laid outside for some time, usually in shady damp areas. Mold gets that fuzzy appearance.
I rinse the roots with 5%h202 and sterile water when I re pot in a sterilized substrate hydrated to 60%. H202 is to eliminate bacteria that the f gnats eat. No contaminants, no gnats. Get rid of the substrate the plant came in and this works. I learned all this growing gourmets mushrooms. F gnats only appear when something is bacterial and over hydrated in my experience
I wonder if the mold is growing inside the pot/roots as well?? I've been thinking that I must repot , but I don't want to do that. I have many plants with this mold 😢
6:51 diatomaceous earth.it’s actually good for your plants plants need silica to grow you can use it as a pin amedment it doesn’t hold moisture I garentee it was the cinnomin prior to DE , which actually fucks up ur ph, de is safe even up so harvest wouldninoutnit on a flowering plant no, but I personally can attest it increased my plant growth and vigor of growth for cannabis plants
If you have cats that occasionally dig in your plant's dirt, be aware Neem oil isnt safe for them, and if they somehow ingest diatomaceous earth it can serioutharm them. I am trying bti powder i found online, the mosquito bits grew mold on my soil even after i strained the "tea". The powder has good reviews. Im trying to locate affordable nematodes that dont come in a huge bag or a disintegrating ball that is made for huge pots. Most if my plants are in 4-6 inch pots with only 3 large. Ive been searching online for smaller quantities but not having much luck (in the U.S.)
So, i cant use neem oil as i have a cat who likes to sample a leaf here and there. I strictly have succulents (mostly) as most of those he will leave alone (but not always). Im currently trying bti powder from "pretty in green" and i have two Zevo plug in lights. I have let them dry out to the point theyre not looking too good lol. Im attempting the powder tonight. I do know that a couple days after watering is when the gnats hatch. I may try to bake my soil next repotting, but it is a LOT of work to repot 20 plants at once to change soil, and they dont need to be repotted yet
I hung plant zapper lites near my plants for 2 months. I loved hearing them zapped! After 2 months the zaps stopped and I took them down. No gnats for over a year now! Dont forget to empty the trays of dead ones on the bottom! Good Luck! These are all I use! 😊
Definitely, the most complete and accurate video on fungal gnat control that I've seen. I wish that you'd included an experiment using moth balls as I've seen some people claim they work (in my experience, not very well).
Dish soap works in a spray bottle. Kills mostly all insect on contact fungus gnats 100%. My opinion this is the best method if you have them flying in the top of your soil or on the side of your fabric pots. Also I use Neem seed meal on the top of my coco from Down to Earth. Dish soap does not harm your plants and its good for inside and outside. Just dont soak the soil with it, you can wet the top layer a bit for when the gnats fly out they will die coming out.
I’ve used the sticky traps for months and just started using the Mosquito bits a couple of weeks ago. I also keep a vinegar & water mixture in a spray bottle to target any stragglers flying around especially since they are so quick & nearly impossible to swat out of the air! 😊Oh but that burst of vinegar spray can catch them
At least know I purchased the misquote bits I ‘m on the right track. Got fly traps got dozens of bats. The peroxide made the knots fly in my face and the tried desperately to get up my nose. I had to wear a mask.
I fought with gnats for over two years and what worked for me was Raid mosquito plug-in. Give it two or three days and you will get rid of those flying monsters.

I have tried them all...and also the black soap, but i think the Mosquito bit is forbiden in Québec. I am now treating all my plants with permethrine. Since i have a dog, I had to move them all in my basement with led lamps. I'm still treating them since more than a month... at the beginning it was every 4 days and now every 10 days... hoping to get rid of all the fungus gnats and thrips.🤞
I have a predator that will colonize coco or soil and eliminate all gnats in 14-21 days. It feeds on springtails to keep population and destroys gnats and root aphids while it multiplies.
