Weekly show where Dan Romero (@dwr), Antonio Garcia Martinez, (@antoniogm), and Erik Torenberg (@eriktorenberg) discuss tech, culture, and beyond.
Also from Turpentine, head to The Cognitive Revolution podcast (www.youtube.com/@CognitiveRevolutionPodcast) to watch interviews with builders at the edge of AI.
Dan is so out of touch with the reality of the majority of Americans today that it's embarrassing...."but the reality is that everyone is rich in the United States" (minute 46:53). And, how on Earth does he come up with "these Red States need California taxes...." (min 46:24). WOW! California's budget is so blown due to over spending that D.C. has to bail it out all the time. Red states are NOT dependent on the bankrupt state of California. Moreover, he expressed shock at the idea that Texas would become independent in these hypothetical scenarios. History Lesson: Texas was already an independent Republic once before in 1836-1837. Rudyard ate that guy's lunch.....
I don't really see how allowing our largest geopolitical adversary to have access to sensitive technologies is a de-escalation of the AI arms race. They're not going to stop developing models that they can use to get an edge over us if we reverse course on that. As far as dialogue is concerned, we've tried that before, only to continue having IP stolen, PLA-linked hackers tampering with our infrastructure, and a continuation of escalating mercantilist trade policy on their end, something that we responded to in kind. It's a classic prisoner's dilemma scenario with regards to any form of cooperation. Any sort of deference will be met with betrayal and exacerbate tensions as opposed to deescalating them. Nathan vs Josh on China policy is a prime example of the clash of idealism vs realism.
I've been marooned from San Francisco out here in the Tennessee jungle for 3 years to say that just because they haven't fought in the local war in 75% of them are from this area of the country is and that they don't have corresponding bloodlust is moronic
Lost me at “single issue voter” on not having an international AI arms race. That’s a sentiment that belongs in a college farming commune, not a serious conversation about how geopolitical actors actually behave.
Nathan you’re one of the most effective communicators on the subject of AI I’ve found, it really bothers me to see you wasting your time on purely political conversations. You’re better than this.
Nathan is brilliant and first principled and willing to have hard conversations, and we want diverse views on this podcast. I thought the Sam debate was strong too. - Erik.
@@MomentofZenPodcast I feel that his mentality makes him a phenomenal founder/entrepreneur but a terrible geopolitical negotiator. Still an informative conversation and one that I was glad to listen to.
I don’t know about civil war but the Nerdpocalypse is definitely upon us. This kid is not a “historian” for FS. He had no business pontificating about history and the fact that people take him seriously is a very sad commentary on our society.
This guy trying to tell me as a 24 year old With zero savings Living in a shitty A frame Working at a deli while in debt that I’m “my next step away from getting a big break” is actually pissing me off
How quick did congress bend when the Pipeline feeding gas to the east coast stopped. Look be hind the narrative to the rapid changes in passed bills that were made in Washington. There is enormous power contained within the state levels of elites, Who control the primary resources required for power, and war machines and hey are all still on the Right, The left capitalizes in make believe world of markets entertainment, and tech all of which are useless without electricity, In which 70% is dependent upon the very elite business owners the left works to eliminate the revolution will remain peacefull so long as the left allows it.
Really fear civil war to the point you cant even for see any circumstance in which it will happen. A Man faces those possibilities so he is pre pared even in the slight chance it happens.
Curtis is brilliantt, but his prescriptions are shallow and don't really stand up to scrutiny. It's just impossible to have a thoughtful and challenging discussion with him, because he is filibuster incarnate.
