Hi, i just aquired a new lathe and am going to learn to turn wood. I came across your channel and like what I see so decided to sub. I am from Huntsville, Texas.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. Welcome to the woodturning community. It’s a great group of people and everyone is usually more than happy to help you through the learning curve. Stay tuned for more videos on my channel. Safe turning and enjoy the journey!
@@JoshBayerWoodturning : you are much like me. Though I do also eat left handed. Everything else I do right handed. I guess lathe work goes with writing, as on the lathe, I do prefer my left hand, though curiously, I think I do better work with my right.
You said the ogee reminds you of snow laden branches, but they remind me of a stack of Hershey Kisses! I NEED A SNACK! Ha! Really enjoyed this video! Thanks!
Josh, thanks for sharing this video. I have been wanting to make a solid torus on the lathe as part of a larger design and hadn't really come up with an approach that I liked. What you did is pretty much what I had decided on trying and now I have the confidence to go ahead and make one now that I see your success. Much appreciated!
Looks good, I have 3 burrows I've yet to turn, im hoping they are anyway. 2 were given to me and one I cut off a tree that had been knocked down beside a river in New Mexico a a couple years back. Working on getting my shop back on order since I got some new tools, or as my wife calls them "toys" over the Christmas holidays. I hit subscribe to see more of your work and would appreciate you checking out some or all my videos also.
How much is Burl worth? I found one on a live tree and it's got to be every bit of a 1000lb and if I'm not mistaken in on a black walnut but if have to go look again because it's been 2 years since I've been back there
did you say irregardless ? regardless means without concern prefixing it with IR just means without without concern, ie with concern double negative thing ....ye ye i know just thought i,d point it out , and i,m dyslexic also i,d have preferred to turn the first burl
I like those lathes that allow you to turn the piece of wood outside of the horizontal direction where you can turn large pieces and are not bound by the depth of the other types of lathes.
Awesome work, i have had this on my mind for a while, but i hate math so i will follow your outline :) check these out for segmented turning i did a few years ago as something to do, i just guessed along the way, not to hard, the big ones are still in my home. sites.google.com/site/jpgwoodcraft/segmented-wood-vases-1?
