I think you're missing the point, this person obviously desires the world over the next life, potentially with low imaan. Fasting and prayers are meant to be there to control desires. For this person, it's more of an exercise than a spiritual anchor. Fasting is there to suppress your appetite when every part of your body craves food, and if you can stop yourself from sinning for 30 days, you can for the rest of the year. Some people go back to their old ways and haven't gained, others have developed mental fortitude to protect themselves. Ultimately it's down to the individual. They are accountable. They must have the intention. It's not magic, it's a struggle but the closer you are to Allah, the easier it is. This world is meant to be a test.
I watched it years ago, but didn't understand its significance until now, after getting married and going through various circumstances. Today, I realize how crucial this discussion is. Listen carefully: Haram is haram. It will hurt and shatter you if you engage in it. Don't deceive yourself. Please end the haram relationship. It's difficult, but trust me, it causes more harm later on. Stop haram immediately. Repent (make tauba) and focus on worship (ibadah). Purify your intentions and think rationally. Do what is halal, no matter how big or small. Don't burden yourself. Don't rush. Seek Allah's help and make dua for me too.
