The entrance to your kill box could have something that enemies can’t stand on. Rock chunks or sand bags might work, it would force them to come all the way in before shooting. It’s always good to do a health check on your pawns once in a while. Count the number of limbs, check their pockets for stuff, see who they are trying to sleep with.

Animals that are zoneable are targeted in the same way as colonists by enemies. Pen animals are not targeted by enemies. In the base game Neutroamine is not craftable. It can only be bought or looted from raiders. Coolers can be vented into a door that is held open as a chimney. A “door” is a little room that will equalize the temperature between each side, Eliminating the heat the cooler puts in. You can build it in the middle of the room. Cooler > door (held open) < cooler.
The base is starting to come together. When a visitor enters the map, you can try to buy as much stuff from them as possible, so that they have silver to rent a bed. You will get the silver back from them eventually.
In the Assign tab you can tell a colonist what they can or can not eat. For example, you can turn off raw meat and berries, meaning they will not eat those items unless they are in a mental break. They will eat meals containing those items. Human and insect meat is off by default.

There is a way to make a colonists haul a lot more, if you want to micro manage it. Start a caravan with all of your pawns, immediately draft them and remove all but one pawn from the caravan,(the maximum weight allowance should stay the same) direct that one pawn to Add to Caravan all the wood you need hauled, send them to the stockpile, empty their inventory, and then cancel the caravan. A bit of a pain, but if there is lots of small items to move, it does speed things up.
Nice start. Although corners don’t matter for temperature, pawns can interact through a diagonal. You can’t shoot through a diagonal, but you can melee through one. If an Ancient bed is in the right place, I use them for prisoners. The comfort is low, so prisoners sleep more to recover rest, and cause less trouble. Day Lilly’s only need fifty percent light, so they will grow under torch light. Inside grow zones are a quick way to make a room more impressive if you have the time to plant.

Lights? Really? Is it the minus five for being in the dark or the penalty to global work speed and movement that convinced you? It looks like there is a few good spots down south to make a “shooting gallery” Man hunter packs are way easier if you can just shoot at them over deep water without them being able to reach you.
Nice map to settle on. Making a defendable area should be easy. If you start to grow trees outside your walls, you can delete the grow zone after they are planted. Enemies will only light fires in zoned areas, and not random plants.

Rolling joints in the dark is really slow, give them some light. Oh, and researching in the dark is also slowed down. And maybe don’t have your kitchen as a short cut. It should be a dead end with one door. Way less people tracking dirt through.
