Great video! I need a new show for RockMan- Salomon or adidas hm.. ? Would you recommend the adidas even for a slower racer?

I think they would both work well. Just know that the Salomon will hold more water and may feel heavier. What are you running technical trails with now?

Comments via Facebook (many questions and answers, click "Read More" to see them all): Bill Lankford Good evening from Mr an Mrs B to all our friends and those we've yet to get to meet 😃 Trista Mennen Hi everyone!!! So excited to see your faces Alex Sheen PF&H is great. One brand for all my races this year! Alex Sheen 🙋🏼‍♂ Amy Bush (Crazy people like Alex Sheen) Alex Sheen 12 x 90s hills reps…🥵 Trista Mennen I ran already! If you can call it that. Legs are heavy (THANKS A LOT NICO) Trista Mennen Wait. There are rocks at ROCKMAN??? Bill Lankford Oh good - we have maturity 😬 Amy Bush I'm way too afraid to ask my coach if I'm ready. If I don't ask, he can't tell me I'm not. Amy Bush (Asking for .. myself, since my Saturday workout has stairs.) Bill Lankford Is anyone else sweating just hearing this 🥵 Nicolay Jonassen Harbin Done the race two times, as long as you know how to swim and rund pretty pretty decently you will finish nicely. The most important part is to not blow it in the beginning. Keeping a steady pace brings you to the finish line 🙂 Nicolas Martin Advantage of machin is that you see your effort and you can get 5000 or more steps in one hour Trista Mennen Loving the Envol coaching! I feel as prepared as can be Amy Bush For stairs, should we always do "real stairs", or can/should we do a stair machine at the gym sometimes, too? Marcus Barton Amy Bush any stairs. I used a combo of real and gym stairs during my training. Personally, I prefer real because I am having to actually lift my weight as opposed to keeping up with the moving stairs beneath me. Ian Moore Most interesting thing to see this year will be the impact of the big downhill so early in the race. Going to be interesting to see people's approach. Some people could completely smash their legs before the tech climbing begins across the fjord Marcus Barton Ian Moore agreed Alex Sheen Should we train power hiking? Marcus Barton Alex Sheen I think if a hill is runnable.. run it. Otherwise, power hike it. As for training, if you have hills steep enough to power hike, maybe incorporate it. What do you think, Nicolas Remires Nicolay Jonassen Harbin Not exactly the topic of this session, but which shoes do you recommend for Rockman? (nice to know so that we have some time to train with them before the race) Marcus Barton Nicolay Jonassen Harbin I used Salomon Amphibs in 2018. I’d recommend the Adidas TERREX Speed Ultra Trail Nicolay Jonassen Harbin Marcus Barton thanks. Do you have any experience with the VJ shoes for swimrunning? Marcus Barton Nicolay Jonassen Harbin I do, and I didn’t like them. Check out my review here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HXbxBj9KK2c.html

Thanks for the response to my question! Tuned in a little late live so didn't hear the answer until the live part was over. No shortcuts in training for downhill runs and loose rocks I hear 😉 thanks for all the great tips in this episode!

There are several vids out there and the most important step generally missed is putting the Odometer/Tripmeter to A. Most guys that have posted the video fail to mention that you cannot reset the Maintenance Required indicator by holding in the reset if your MID is showing the odometer for your Toyota. Well done. #2013TacomaTRDOffRoad4WD

Can you or anyone here with experience please suggest what shoes one should look for!? thanks
@SpeedyLizard
@SpeedyLizard 3 года назад
It really depends on the terrain of the course. Most of the races that I do have technical trails and therefore I choose the Salomon Amphib. I also choose them because they drain very well. If it is not technical, and mostly road, you might choose a different shoe.
@SimplicityForGood
@SimplicityForGood 3 года назад
@@SpeedyLizard ok, thanks! Do you know if Salomon amphib or Inov8 have a more snug fit around your heel and midfoot?
@SpeedyLizard
@SpeedyLizard 3 года назад
@@SimplicityForGood I've raced in both and I prefer the Salomon. Inov8 used to have a shoe I like called the TerraClaw, but it was discontinued. A lot of people race in their X-Talon shoes, but I found them too narrow in the toebox for me. The Amphibs are snug in the midfoot and heel cup for me without feeling restrictive, and the toe box is ample.
@SimplicityForGood
@SimplicityForGood 3 года назад
@@SpeedyLizard what you think of these? www.inov-8.com/row/x-talon-ultra-260-mens-running-shoe www.inov-8.com/row/roclite-g-286-gtx-mens or this? www.salomon.com/sv-se/shop-emea/product/s-lab-cross-2-lg6044.html#color=56525 Do you think these can work even if they are not made for water specfically? I like the design of those as they match the rest of my gear and clothes :)
@SpeedyLizard
@SpeedyLizard 3 года назад
@@SimplicityForGood Definitely NOT the Roclites... the ankle uppers on those things will soak up water and feel like concrete blocks when you get out of the water to run. This holds true for just about any shoe that has real thick, foam cushioning. The S/Lab Cross 2 could be a good choice. I have them and have ran in them, but not swimrun yet. The winning team at Lake James this year were wearing them. The XTalon ultras would be too heavy for my likings. Again, that's just me being picky. They are 260 grams PER SHOE, whereas the regular XTalon is 235 grams. Compare that to the S/LAB Sense at 205 grams. The Amphib comes in at 215. You can certainly use shoes that aren't specifically for water, but they just may not drain very well. I would highly suggest staying away from shoes that have lots of foam cushion around the ankle and heelcups because they will retain water. Does that help?
