Colin forgave her for reading his journal immediately after she said his writing was good. And he was definitely looking forward to seeing her and was blushing when she complimented his writing again. They got back to their jokey ways making fun of Lord Basilio and by the time she was speaking to Lord Remmington, he was already getting jealous. *NOTE* ("Jealous" by Nick Jonas playing in string-quartet fashion.)

I love everything about Pen and Colin’s first time together! ❤ Ugh it was such a sweet scene that I watched it twice before moving on with the ep 🤭 Nicola definitely has no reason to hide - her body is smoking! I am envious of her bewbs 💕 Luke effin’ killed me with his hotness 🔥 Good Lord. The spontaneity, the consent, how gentle everything was, the awkward moments, the giggles… it was all just so cute and sweet. Very romantic 🌹🌺🌸
Re: Eloise rejecting Cressida: 1) She knows Cressida is lying about being Lady W. Once Cressida asked her to help her create the false issues of W, Eloise knew she could not enter into the deception, which is essentially defrauding the Queen. 2) At the end of the day, Eloise is much more loyal to Penn than she is to Cressida. Eloise knows how important W is to Penn so she knows she has to walk away from Cressida. But at least she was being upfront with Cressida in telling her, honestly, to her face that she can no longer remain friends with her. On the other hand, Cressida turned right around and lashed out at Eloise, turning on her "Mean Girl" persona, like flipping a switch. I think most people are sympathetic to Cressida's situation but, at the same time, we do not endorse her course of action, per lying and Blackmail.
I do see your points, and you are certainly right! 😊 I'm just wondering why Eloise couldn't be a good friend for once, and it drives me mad. She could try talking sense into Cressida or giving her the feeling of not being alone or anything other than scolding her. Oh, and I really can't stress this point enough: I'm the last one to have any sympathy for Cressida. I really dislike her. 😂
@@JilTheReal certainly can’t blame you for not liking her. She’s apparently earned, richly, her alienation from real, true love. And now, with her exposure as a fraud for claiming to be Lady W, she’s lost her standing in the Ton (Tawn?). Consequences are a bitch!
I fully agree. The show version is really annoying and just a bad friend to both Cressida and Penelope. But I am happy that Pen and Eloise make up in the end.
Right? It's like she's always been part of the family. In the books, Anthony also dances with Pen at balls, and he acts as her chaperone as well and talks to her about Colin's comment (never wanting to mary her).
isn't it Ep5? i love all the expressions Penelope gave in this ep... especially the moment when Colin told her that he loves her --- the distrust, the disbelief, all her insecurities rising --- so heart wrenching..
I loved how Colin excitedly shows Penelope their new house, but, career girl that she is, she just ignores it... and focuses on him.... I don't give a toss about the house! Did anyone notice that? Wouldn't a non-career girl have ooh-ed and aah-ed about their new house?
Omg you're right. 😄 He also, after seeing her reaction, tries to talk it up like, "I know it's not much. The furniture still needs to be put in place." and so on. 😭
@@JilTheReal Exactly!! Tee-hee. Spot on Penelope's character. In Pride and Prejudice.... There's a big emphasis on "It's such a joy to run your own home..."... Yadda Yadda... Even Daphne does it in the first season.... The importance of being a home-maker .... Not Pen! Love it!
I also questioned Colin walking away from helping Pen at the engagement party, too. It was so strange. Maybe he was trying to give her space, but it dont seem like that would be something he would do.
I believe it is because he is insecure himself. He tells her (after she returns) that he would understand if she got swept up in the moment and didn't return the feelings for him.
08:49 Absolutely! Her breasts are PERFECT! Wow. 13:11 Here's the thing--she is a bad mom. She's not the worst mom (Cressida's might be), and more to the point she wants to be a good mom and is trying. More, she is capable of growth, capable of genuine happiness on behalf of her daughters.
I fully agree. She seems to put in the effort to make things right in the future. Admitting to doing wrong in the past is also something people (unfortunately) rarely do because of ego or simply self-righteousness, but she did the first few steps towards a better relationship to her daughters and I am here for it! 😊
When Violet hugs Penelope, she looks like she’s going to cry, because this is the mother[-in-law] Penelope has always deserved (regardless of Portia’s redemption arc, which I find a little questionable…)
Right? It's like her getting the family she always wanted, and then Hyacinth called her sister. 😭❤️ I honestly wasn't sure all the way through until the end whether Portia actually wanted to make up with her daughter or whether it was because of the connection to the Bridgertons. But I do believe it was the former. Why did you find it questionable?
@@JilTheReal I am not a daughter so I would not presume to comment on it too much, I get that they want to depict this healing of generational trauma, which is sweet, but I just question how realistic it is that this self-centered / narcissistic parent would suddenly change their ways, but maybe that is the “fantasy” of it all. I’m still watching through the rest of your reaction though, maybe I’ll have other thoughts, thanks for the content & analysis!
I agree with you on that. It surely has some fantasy elements added. I do also believe she is quite misunderstood, at least the show version. In the book, she doesn't have a redemption arc and is narcissistic throughout. 😄
In the lead up to this season, I've rewatched the show twice, rewatched all Polin scenes additionally, and listened to Romancing Mr. Bridgerton twice as well. Safe to say, it's my favourite season as well! ❤️😄 Also, I love Nicola so much! She's not only beautiful but also incredibly smart and funny. The perfect Penelope. 😍
I SO agree that the carriage scene is much better, passionate and beautiful in the show compared to the book. It is beyond the physical intimacy, it is sooo full of emotion, of joy and the fulfillment of long denied (on Colin’s part) and long hoped for (by Pen) feelings.
I'm so thrilled but also a little bit anxious. I know it will be painful to watch him be angry, but I'm sure the reconciliation is going to be worth it! 😊
Love your breakdown of the episode, but that carriage scene is sooooo much more than the "fingering" many focus on. It is some of the best acting in Bridgerton, the small nuances b/w them, the sincere looks, and the way they communicate w/ no talking. Such attention to detail. I have also been impressed w/ Violet this season, she is the most astute actresses and her slight facial expressions say it all....thank you. Every time I looked at your reactions, I swear I mirrored them.

Debling would be perfect for Eloise. He's gone all the time, and she would be free to do whatever she wants. He wants a woman who has her own passions and interests, who doesn't mind bucking societal expectations, just like he does. They really would be a good match.
One of my favorite moments this season (outside of the Polin scenes) is Colin and Violet's talk at the ball in Episode 3. She says "Because he gathered the courage to ask," and Colin immediately looks at Pen across the room. Violet follows his gaze, immediately knows he's in love with Pen, and she becomes very still, for just a moment. When she turns back to Colin, you can tell she is happy, and emotional, but pretends they are still discussing Francesca. Her acting in this moment is so beautiful. She doesn't gape at Pen, or widen her eyes, or raise her eyebrows, her jaw doesn't drop in shock, she just becomes very still, so we know that she knows. She also knows her son is afraid to speak his feelings, so she encourages him gently while maintaining his cover that the question is about Francesca's prospects. So much is communicated without saying anything, and it captivates me every time I see it.
That scene is one of my favourites as well. Violet is an incredible mother, and over the seasons, she had some of the most iconic and best lines - the one at the ball and, of course, her reaction certainly being one of them. 🫶🏻
You are the only reactor who comment on the nod he does before he gets out the carriage. It was such a great acting choice by Luke bc you can literally see Colin decide in that moment that she is it for him and he is going to marry her. He won’t wait another second.
In the world of bridgerton, death is less important than horniness - Nicola Coughlan, In a behind the scenes with shondaland regarding her standing there for 57 years staring at Colin instead of running. 😂
If Cressida wasn’t such a twat 😂 I kind of wanted her and Lord Debling to work out. They seemed to have things in common and would have been a good pairing I think.
Loving your reviews! The part where he practically throws her to the wolves without advice might be because he doesn't see her awkwardness. She's comfortable with him, so he thinks she just needs tweaking. He doesn't realize how socially inept she actually is. It's more proof that he sees her differently than the rest of the Ton, and he finds her awkwardness endearing.
I really wanted him to know she was lw before he proposed but the one thing that makes me feel better about it is that Nicola says this is the moment they truly see eachother, so i think even though he doesnt know her secret he does know her.
Yes, me too. 😭 They also said there will be another "love confession" in part 2 because the carriage confession, as beautiful as it was, was not THE love confession. Fingers crossed it is after he finds out! 🤞🏻
Luke said he purposely didn't have colin eat during the first half of the season. He says so to Pen in his dream. He's so wrapped up in her, this notoriously hungry boy can't even eat. Well, except when he ate that iced bun while staring at her; after watching her buy one and lick the icing off her fingers. That made him hungry. 😂
I love your reactions, your theories about some scenes,the little details you give us ( for example, in episode 3, I hadn't realized Violet was watching Colin all the time after he asked her that question and it was you who made me notice it and I was absolutely thrilled). I also appreciate very much how emotional you feel towards the characters, when you said you were broken when Anthony cried ( I was broken too and I also cried with him...). It's just a little silly. The way he nonchalantly says it. As if he was offered an extra napkin or something minor, and then he's just like, "Yeah, okay.". 😂
I think that’s why it works, he’s so disengaged that he really just doesn’t care, he’s just taking up space physically while his head is full of speculation about Pen.
