I'm a retired Air Traffic Controller and commercial (Corporate) pilot. I fly a Cessna 414A now that I own with another person who does not fly, so he hires me to fly the plane for him. I post flight deck videos and external GoPro videos from the left wing and rear of the aircraft.
I also love my pups. I lost my Mastiff Bella Oct 23 to cancer (10 years old), and my Irish Wolfhound Maxx to heart failure Feb 24 (12.5 years old). I was devastated. A friend sent me a photo of Hans and we rescued each other Mother's day 2024.

When I bought my first 414 a few years ago it had been over 30 years since flying 340s, 414s, and 421s. King Airs and some jets came in between. Like riding a bike in a way, but I do prefer King Airs.

@@caiolinnertel8777, love me the King Air 350, 360 models! Definitely if I had the money I'll be one of those! Right now I'm wishing I had the money for one of yours! 🤣 I have my multi, having flown in a while but looking forward to getting back into it! I'm about to retire from the New York City fire Department. Definitely can't wait to get back in the air!

Nice! I have no multi time, unfortunately. But I notice that the synchrophaser isn't used much (based on the videos I've watched). So I assume that it's fairly easy to sync the props well manually. Are there any particular flight regimes that it becomes more useful? I already know the phases of flight when you "don't" use it.
@caiolinnertel8777
@caiolinnertel8777 5 месяцев назад
Last time I used is was about a year ago, just make sure it works. I prefer to manage it myself, keeps me engaged and I'm just a bit of a control freak. Once off I manually sync at power reduction and bringing power back to 2500 rpm for climb. Don't need to sync often. I'm constantly scanning all the instruments (engine, pressurization etc.) and it's almost without thinking that I adjust the props to keep in sync. For this its "to each their own".

This aircraft is really awesome. In the sim, it has become my favorite! If you could give me a brief synopsis of your power settings for each phase of flight, I'd like to try matching them in the latest update. I'm familiar with the basics, (35/25 climb, 31/23 cruise) but would appreciate more info on your mixture settings and fuel flow targets. Thanks

I was able to find a copy of the POH with performance charts online, so I'll start there.

After take off, 35 inches and 2500 rpm. Cruise varies but 30 in at 2300 is typical. Descent is a gradual decrease to 25 in as 2200 rpm. On final I increase to 2400 rpm and go arounds are 35 in at 2500 again. Mixtures once set for cruise EGT are not touched until off the runway. Once on the ground, before and after take off you need to lean the engines, better for them and run smoother. Hope that helps. My engines are RAM IVs.
@redtailpilot
@redtailpilot 5 месяцев назад
@@caiolinnertel8777 Great! One thing that stood out differently than I thought, was leaving mixture setting instead of going full rich prior to landing. Is that standard or pilot preference? I know airport elevation is a factor as well. Thanks. Also, are you a "rich of peak" or "lean of peak" pilot? 😆

Saw your comment on another YT video that goes into details and showcases the MSFS version, that's how I found your channel. Having only flown single engine Cessnas, Pipers and a Super Decathlon IRL, it's a pleasure to see how you fly and operate this beauty! Thanks 🙂

Oh, thanks. I've flow twin Cessna's for decades, in the 1980's then when again in 2019. King Airs mostly in between when work (retired ZDC Controller, and Engineer for FAA). Very stable and capable aircraft, but given their age do eat up maintenance $$$ but it's worth it for the capability and price.

@@caiolinnertel8777 That's awesome. Sounds like a rewarding career and passion. You were flying in the '80's, as I was getting into flight simulators on my C64/Amiga and IBM PC clones. I got my PPL in '98 at TEB (when there were a couple of schools there). Flew on and off over the years (hobby). No longer current, so I use the sims to keep myself entertained (MSFS/DCS). Several years ago, I visited the NY Tracon out on Long Island. I enjoyed observing the other side of the PTT button, haha. Oh BTW, I'm a Controller as well, but not that kind, lol. I'm an Electrical Systems Controller for the Port Authority. Which means I operate the high tension switchgear from a Control Room and no longer get my hands dirty installing/maintaining it 😂 I could retire, but I enjoy what I do and it's not stressful, so I'll probably hang around a few more years.
