the learning curve is steep af, it will take so much time and effort to be competent at the game and most of the time its an knowledge check that forces you the spend hours in training mode to figure out a way to counter different characters moves, so no dads who don't have a lot of time shouldn't play tekken 8
I think they covered it pretty well imo. The review was skewed more toward local and single player. They never dived deep into multiplayer which is precisely the point you're also making for them in a way. I'm a dad myself and agree with the review. It's refreshing to see reviews from a casual perspective. We don't all need to be giving our lives away to learn every frame and every counter. I used to do that shit when I was 16... now I got bills to pay and kids to raise, but still want to indulge in video games - we shouldn't be walled out because of needing to "spend hours in training mode to figure out a way to counter different characters moves". That's silly.
Im 42 also. Elden Ring is the greatest game I’ve ever played before. 450+ hours and still find new stuff without getting bored. To anyone just starting out- it gets much much easier after 20 hours or so. Don’t get discouraged like most people in the first 5.
So we have 3 kids. My job is getting the baby into REM sleep and then put him in the crib. Strategy: - get controller and bottle, place on nightstand beside rocking chair. - rock until baby is asleep - pick up controller - play Elden Ring at low volume while the kid goes into deep sleep. Always gets me a solid 90 minutes of play time in the evening and I'm not shirking my dad duties to do it.
Such a great game and I love the concept of the review for Dads. Something I would like to see acknowledged in the reviews is game session length. As a dad to a toddler myself, I find Elden Ring an especially easy pick-up and put-down game. I can play about 30-45 minutes and start a “dungeon”, explore the entirety of it, reach the boss, fail a bunch of times, and either eventually beat the boss or rage quit by the 45 min mark, making it perfect for a post-kid’s bedtime game without risking staying up all night myself! In the same vein, another thing that could be acknowledged for Dad’s is the pause-ability of a game. I play Elden Ring in offline mode, so I can hide my character in a bush at any moment “pausing” the game and not risking invasion from other players. Other games, like Fortnite for example, have an awful “pause-ability” score because of the nature of playing games with other people. So Elden Ring would get points for allowing an offline mode, but I’d dock points for there not being a true pause button. ONE more thing and then I’m done, I promise (maybe I should make videos for you guys 😂). Honestly, I would also mention ‘cheating’ possibilities for games. Elden Ring has a section where you can farm souls and save yourself a shit ton of grinding time (dodging the ball and sending it off the cliff). Being able to skip grinding in games is a huge plus for me - I don’t LOVE cheating, of course, but to have that option as a dad with very little free time means I get to actually experience a game instead of spending 90% of my time doing monotonous chore-like tasks in game.
Thank you for the great feedback! Our Final Fantasy XVI review featured sections of returning to the game with some of its recap features which sound similar to that pausability features you mentioned. We’ll take this feedback and incorporate some in our next videos. Appreciate all the typing 😂 thank you!
You son of a gun I'm in. Father of 4 I get to play games Saturday night as long as I please, will be spending the next few Saturday nights giving this a shot wish me luck
Hey! I know this video is mostly directed toward fathers, but I've actually been playing Elden Ring for awhile and I was just contemplating getting this game for my dad when this popped up in my feed... Freaky. Despite this possible omen, I'm still on the fence about this lol. My dad is very much a picky gamer; he tends to steer more toward shooter games than story, horror, or alternative genre games. I have a feeling he'd enjoy this game (when he isn't dying)... Maybe. Nonetheless, thank you very much for this video! I might get him this game sometime just so he can try it... We'll see.
I think everyone should give it a shot for themselves. There is a reason why it is so widely praised. It clearly resonates with a wide variety of gamers (not just hardcore souls fans). No guarantee your dad will like it, but it is at least worth a try, to figure out whether he does.
We've got a 5 month old who is just starting to sleep better (ie, not waking up every hour on the hour). Currently waiting the 20 minutes until Shadow of the Erdtree drops and going to play a video game for the first time in months, at least until he wakes up at 1am to be fed... Great channel idea, subbed
Fellow dad here. I put about 200ish hrs in on Elden Ring in between working, being a husband and father. You are 100% correct, this is an absolute masterclass of a game. After getting the platinum trophy on ps5 I attempted to play the demon’s souls remake, unfortunately Elden Ring has made EVERYTHING else feel subpar.
@@Ytinasniiableexcept that he's talking PS5, which is a fairly modern-feeling remaster. And in terms of mechanics, it is easier to get into than DS1 or DS2 - but yes, DS3 probably one of the closest experiences. Bloodborne as well... but more mechanically than thematically.
@@lumeronswift it's a graphical remaster mostly, the core design is unchanged, the healing system, no mana bar, limited rolling directions, all of the clunkiness is still there, it just looks pretty
It’s definitely noticeable there due to how precise you need to be. I’d stick to Moments, or any single player mode there and avoid online MP if you’re climbing ranked. If you’re just casually playing it you can adjust to the timing, but it will throw you off when you go back to the console.
A good device to consider is the Logitech G cloud, you can stream using PS Remote but you have access to X Cloud and have access to every game on Game Pass, so you can have both consoles in this device. You have also access to GeForce Now, Moonlight, etc... so you can stream games from your pc or via cloud Saying that it's a Android tablet, you still have access to every android app.
Any game could win GOTY tbh, just not Spider-Man. Not saying it’s a bad game, but it feels like the most overrated one this year. I’d lean TOTK but I haven’t played BG3 so… 🤷🏽♂️
This year does feel like it lacks a bit in terms of GOTY contenders. I have to wonder how many of these games would be up here had they been released against last year's GOTY contenders. If you have any interest in BG3 I can't recommend it enough - C.J.
Good video guys, some points here - you've kept too much whitespace in between your lines. The script could be a little more concise as well. The timestamps are really helpful.
Absolutely, I appreciate the feedback. This was my first time ever doing a review for a game but I believe since then they have improved. Side not, if I'm not mistaken this video is only partially scripted (been a while since it was recorded). I tend to prefer talking about a game like I normally would and work it all together/fill in the blanks. As much as I think a script would help, I hate how robotic I sound when I read from one as it doesn't feel authentic to me. But I'm going to keep trying to improve! Thanks for watching. - C.J.
I returned mine because the analog stick was grinding and clicking, others are having this issue as well. Have you noticed any issues with the sticks on yours?
This dad is pretty pissed that the campaign is god damn garbage. I just went through thr original MW 3, in preparation of this, and couldn't believe how much better it is than 99% of crap we get today. To make it worse, back then, MW3 was seen as a letdown. Hahaha!
