Hi, what's the difference between this book and Tai Chi for Knee Health? The contents pages look very similar. Thanks :)
@ChicagoTaiChi
@ChicagoTaiChi 4 месяца назад
Hi Christopher, Thanks for your question. The Tai Chi for Balance System emphasizes developing awareness of feet and posture, while strengthening legs and hips. These elements combine to help older adults become more stable on their feet and resistant to falls. Like Tai Chi for Knee Health, the book teaches the movements of Tai Chi Circling Hands. It also includes additional Tai Chi Walking exercises that are not in Tai Chi for Knee Health. All the best, Chris Cinnamon

Thanks Chris for this. I was wondering though when you do these movements is it that one doesn,t for example, on the second movement, push one arm and hand up to the fullest extent and the other hand down. Is there a reason for that?
@ChicagoTaiChi
@ChicagoTaiChi 9 месяцев назад
Hi Graham, Thanks for your interest! In my training and teaching, we aim to follow "the 70% Rule" as described by Master Bruce Frantzis. Under the 70% Rule, you move to approx. 70% of your maximum range of motion. This helps release tension, promote circulation of blood and Qi, and avoid injury. You could do the moves stretching the arms to the fullest extent as you describe. That would tend to induce tension in the shoulders. According to Qigong theory, that tension would impede Qi flow.

Hi Chris from Michigan. Paul and I tried this tonight (to move a bit during the Lions/Rams game). It is perfect for him. He is a bit worried about his balance so we are taking it easy. Just a few reps at a time to get his confidence up. I love that he has to engage his legs and arms at the same time. Like you say: Full Body! Thanks for sharing this. I am sharing with my sibs.

In the video, I show an exercise where you move the pressure around your knees, then balance the pressure. That's your Sweet Spot.
