3:50 Varys was suprised at seeing a noble who actually chips in his own resources for the good of the realm. Ned had no ulterior motives here, only an actual sense of duty towards the people of King’s Landing.
Joffery was a twisted little boy but he did Respect and Love his "Father".... I always loved when he would talk back to his Mother and Grandfather lol. Saying things like "He got bored of you" "My Father won the Real war" etc. If only Ned could have brought him up to be a better man.... or Robert's true heir Gendry. I truly wish Robert and Cersei had a real son but Gendry would be better than most young people. Ned as Hand, Gendry as King in training, get rid of Little Finger, Varys and Pycell. Maybe even have Stannis as King until Gendry completed "King School" lol. The realm really would be a different place! (Oh and of course all The Lanisters but Tyrion wiped out) For that matter put John on the Throne after Robert's death... that would work too lol.
I am willing to bet that wasn't part of the script. Everyone genuinely looked confused when Lena moved the chair and then everyone started breaking and smirking (including Charles). So Peter just went with it. 🤣
"i'll drown more sailors than the mermaids shall, I'll play the orator as well as Nestor, deceive more slyly than Ulysses could, and like a Sinon take another Troy. I can add colors to the chameleon . . ." Richard the Third was the first rapper.
Crazy to think that if Robert heeded Ned’s advice and did nothing, Dany would have likely never come to Westeros. The assassination attempt was what spurred the change in heart with Drogo
Conleth Hills facial acting cant be understated. His WTF when Cersei grabs the chair to OK now i get it, ok ill give you that grin when she gets to Tywins side, then utter impressed shock after tyrion claps back lol
I LOVE this show, but I still can't help but point out obvious things I would have done differently lol.... Like Daenerys for example, why did the Hand even need to know about her assassination lol? All the King had to do was order it himself, keep it quiet, never even mention it to his Hand, and that's that, no freaking drama, and Littlefinger never gets his opportunities to stoke the fires.... Think about it, no fight with the King, none of the subsequent incidents occur.... (and then you have no show, and we'd never have been able to enjoy it, and this comment wouldn't exist!!).... ;)
Neds story can be linked to the real world. Honesty, honour is bullshït created by the clever ambitious people to fool the poor and humble ones. That is, honesty and honour will bring you nothing. Deceive, ambition, being fake will.
" How much would it take to make the common soldier stupid enough to try his luck with The Hound " I love this line Clegane still commands respect half a world away
I love how smoothly he passes from one soliloqui to another. (For those new to RIII, sir Laurence combines two sol. : "Winter of our duscontent" - beginning of R III, and "add colours to yhe chameleon" from Henry VI part 3).
He likely was a type of man who could just sit for hours looking at a wall (daydreaming). A bigwig character with the name Charles Augustus Magnussen appeared in a Sherlock episode (lcf, sn x S?).
If they'd successfully assasinated Daenerys, the Army of the Dead would've still been stuck behind the wall, and there'd be no burnt out king's landing. Ned was wrong. Well, Dan and Dave were wrong, but so was Ned
"Fifty pounds times twenty" Holmes slipped into his pocket from her purse. And using AI: £1000 in 1895 is equivalent in purchasing power to about £164,783.29 today1. This is due to an average inflation rate of 4.04% per year between 1895 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 16,378.33%1. As for the conversion to present day dollars, the exchange rate for GBP to USD in 2024 is approximately 1.272. Therefore, £164,783.29 would be roughly equivalent to $209,274.78 in present day dollars." Quite a fee!
Nor can I , he took the two dimensional portrayal of Rathbone an added the third I miss him dearly and weep at times that he couldn’t complete his work😔
The under observation is actually a callback from The Adventure of Empty House where Holmes who actually alive and well are hunted down by Sebastian Moran.
Kevan is right and made things dumb very early on. She can either be Queen Regent or Queen Mother yet she flits between the 2, G.R.R. Martin made this completely unbelievable
When these adaptations by Granada Television first aired between 1984 and 1994, I watched every episode. The world came to a stop for me as I enjoyed Jeremy Brett's authoritative interpretation of the great consulting detective. In essence, he became Sherlock Holmes. Both David Burke and Edward Hardwicke embodied Dr. John H. Watson, portraying him as competent, fearless, intelligent and reliable. This is unlike the buffoonish portrayal by Nigel Bruce in the 1930s and 40s. Charles Gray was excellent in the part of Mycroft Holmes. Rosalie Williams was the definitive Mrs. Hudson. All in all, these are classic performances by exceptional actors. It is a pleasure to watch these episodes once again. I will buy the complete series on Amazon before too long.
