For those in the comments who for some reason find it offensive to be corrected. I would like you to read my name to yourself. How would you pronounce it. I will give some examples of the way 99% of the people who either telemarket to me, call from a doctors office or something similar, or just attempt to read my name off of my ID or credit cards pronounce it below. I will also provide the correct pronunciation. If Andrew Carnegie came up to you and explicitly told you that his name is pronounced Car-Neg-ee, would you still argue this? Personally I would find it rude if people continued to say my name wrong after I, very nicely explained how to say it as I always have to do, and explain that they should not worry about it because nobody gets it correct. . . . . . . . Examples of what I hear most of the time are La-chaw-see, La-chew-see, La-caw-see, these are the most common mispronunciations I hear (95% I would say). The worst butchering I have ever had was La-ka-who-see. That's just adding letters lol. The correct pronunciation is La-Shaw-say, with a strong emphasis on that second syllable. When I was young I came up with a lil diddy to help people, "Wha'd ya say? La Shaw say. In America we don't have a ton of words where the emphasis is not on the beginning of the word and I think that has caused a lot of the confusion surrounding Carnegie's name.
This is a litmus test. If the narrator of a documentary about Carnegie goes with CARnegie, I know they aren't from around the area and it loses ~50% credibility.
