Acclaimed as "one of the world's foremost classical guitarists" according to Public Radio International, Lily Afshar is a virtuosa who brings passion to her performance. Her unique life story finds expression in her art. The Washington Post has described her onstage performance as "remarkable, impeccable." She is the only classical guitarist in the world who blends excellent formal training in the United States and Europe with the rich cultural heritage of Persia to bring audiences an extraordinary musical experience.
This is my favorite version. It's as if the piece was composed for Lily. I have the album A Jug of Wine and Thou from way back, and I still enjoy it to this day. Criminally underrated guitarist.
Very beautiful Lily, thank you for posting. It brings back great memories - funny I had just seen an interview regarding your Segovia Masterclass, and you said you chose a piece that Segovia hadn’t penned arrangement or transcription. With your strong confidence and extreme talent I don’t think that there’s any. problems for whatever you played for lthe Maestro. A funny note about this master class is that Lily speaks several languages, and Segovia talks to her in several languages too -ha ha Long live classical guitar It was in Boston during the 1980s that I was Lily’s student for a short while but then I moved. I enjoyed our sessions and the funny thing her notes on my Sor studies are above the notes that Sophocles Papas had penciled in a few years before you.
