Beautifull work. 🌹 Your flowers look smaller than the original cardigan and the result is absolutely not the same. Is that your choice? There are many free patterns from this cardigan on RU-vid. What is the difference with the original pattern ? Thank you.
Thank you Hellen for your videos ❤ I have the same pattern as M6953, bought as M8060 and I'm stuck 😢 I'm not an experienced sewer and I don't know how to connect the sides to the front bodice, the sides are curved and the front is very slightly curved. Can you please advise me, I'm completely lost 🙏🏽
Hi Hellen, the fabric is absolutely gorgeous!! Would love to see the blouse/ pants you'll end up making out of them. 👍I really like your RU-vid channel also. Cheers Marie 😊
take the ends ant tie them together and you can make a scrap rug or you can get a rug making tool and a backing and make a loop rug. I just wanted to give you an idea so your scrap ends don't go to waste. I hope that helps. I love your channel and you do beautiful work.
I just bought this pattern and came across this. I’m going to hold off a little while because I’m very new to garment construction. But I really think this looks lovely on you! Just maybe a little large in the waist but otherwise so cute! No one will notice those flaws you see. I hope you are able to wear and enjoy it :)
Your jacket turned out beautiful, you must be so happy with it! There must be something wrong with me because after purchasing the pattern book on Amazon (for $21 ) I cannot understand or grasp how to do the flower motifs. I'm an experienced beginner but I find her written and video explanation difficult to follow. I wish you had gone over the flower motif. I'm so anxious to make the jacket for my sister, I hope by trying again and again it will help me. I subbed to your channel and am looking forward to seeing what you create next 😊
Thank you so much! I am so happy with it. What part are you struggling with? I found it helpful to break it into the chains that build the petals and then the petals themselves
@@LifeByHellen thanks for your reply 😊 I learn much better through visual learning and I find the video she provides has little explanation. That's why when I came across your video I was hoping for that. I'll take your advice, and keep trying. I'm a determined person lol ☺️
I just watched this video and saw your comment. I had the exact same issue lol I found the book lacked alot of instruction. Even the videos left me confused I finally searched RU-vid and watched as many 3d roses granny squares videos as I could find. Practiced those till I was comfortable with making one. It is looked almost identical. There are even full length videos on how to assemble the jacket I hope you've had some success figuring it out, just thought I would pop in and give you my experience with it 😊
Just watched this on a whim last night, and guess what! The pattern for the waistband is 5” too small for the size 18, which I am sewing now. I have never looked up a pattern I was about to sew before, but I am so glad I did this time! I would’ve thought it was me as well. I had enough fabric to recut the expanded waistband, thankfully.
Yes I found the loops in V8689 fiddly and I used less fabric for the skirt, I used a seersucker from Spotlight that was quite bulky. There are loads of boatneck 50s dress patterns out there that are much faster to make than this one and use less fabric.
Yeah I never understand why the big four don't draft them well! I would assume as there are so many versions in the same style that do work that it can't be that hard?
LOVE IT - As a male rose grower and enthusiast - what would be a way I could make this work in a man’s garment? Or what colors would you do to make it darker in jewel tones but realistic to nature? Thank you for the video! I bought her pattern before watching your video but I haven’t begun yet.
I'm currently making a second that has a dark grey background and it also looks lovely! I'm making this one longer and with less volume in the sleeves. You could totally do all red roses and a dark background or something similar.
@@LifeByHellen I have a bunch of original patterns from as far back as 50' and 60' of Simplicity, McCalls, Buttermilk, and a smattering of other brands from my aunts estate. If you have any suggestions for how to determine reasonable pricing or what media to post them on, I would be very grateful.
That makes so much sense! I still found it to be very long even wrapping it around. I think my fabric also was a bit too heavy so it wasn't super flattering:/
Cool. Im actually making 5509 E atm. I want to make it as a dress with the back of the skirt split i two with a zipper, alternatively in 1 piece closing it on the side.
Hi, Hellen, I enjoyed your video; thanks for making it. If you don't mind me saying so, I think you had trouble with your binding around the corner and curves because you didn't cut the fabric on the bias. Cutting on the bias is what gives the binding a bit of stretch so you can maneuver around curves more easily. I still think the coat turned out great!
If you have a gaping neckline maybe try a chest alterations scoop in from the front armholes. This adjustment doesn’t change the shoulder length or the bust size but reduces the amount of fabric through your upper chest. I kept getting gaping necklines and was so frustrated. This alteration worked for me. A slightly puffy underslip will help some of your full skirts stand away from your body.
Something I've learned about more full skirts is to cut the pieces so the centre front and back are on the bias, and the sides are on the straight of grain. It makes it hang nicer.
Wow, you did great!! It turned out so well ❤. I have such a low level of patience when it comes to hand sewing and have so much admiration for those that can do it.
Yes! The dratted cups! I did some kind of Jedi magic to get mine right and even now (6 years later I want to unpick them and do it again ha! Well done, your hacks are amazing x
Your B5708 seems to require some adjustment to the neckline to draw it in a little. Though it may be that the dress is supposed to fit off the shoulder. Also, I would put it on and then have someone help me tie the shoulder ties. Also did you try a muslin. It seems rather a pretty dress but I find retro patterns need adjustments. Maybe body shapes were different back in the day. 😊Love your patter selections.
