The splotchy ceramics are called sponge ware as opposed to splatter ware as noted in another comment. Splatter ware has finer markings and is made by tapping a brush that has been dipped in the glaze over the piece then tapping the brush so the glaze splatters onto the piece. Sponge ware is made by dipping a sponge into the glaze, then touching the sponge to the piece. Please tell us where the antique store you visited is located. Thanks.
