Mike, first off replace points/rotor/comdemser amd coil. Secomd the wipers are vacume and don/t work if the engine aint runnin. Also check the ole girl isn;t still wired pos ground. It's eother ignition or fuel.
Hi Mike, great video. I was a little unclear as to weather you had power at the + terminal at the coil. If not try running a jumper wire from the battery to the coil. Also a better way to check for spark is to check by pulling the coil wire off of the cap and hold it near a ground.
One of the worst things is a Coil mounted Upside Down like that one is. The contacts in the top when it's that way get coated with the sludge from the bottom of the case. Get a new coil and a wire that will reach the dist cap and try it again.
The lights in the grill are parking lights. The wipers are vacuum. The wiper switch is a vacuum switch. Try and determine what is run, and what is accessories, and what is off on the key switch. Remember this truck is seventy odd years old and possibly modified more than once. Something to bear in mind after you get it running: between the intake manifold and head some sheet metal tubes are inserted to prevent air leakage. If someone has left these out, the engine will run, but not properly. If your local library is one of the ones that holds on to old books,an old Motors Manual or one of the other one size fits all reference books can be a great help. Keep having fun. Tell Andrea her flowers look very nice. Take care.
The knob with the T is the throttle. The plate on the left door jamb is in the correct place. It should have the serial number. There were no V.I.N. numbers back then. When looking on the internet for info on these trucks, knowing that they were referred to as “advanced design” trucks may help. There seemed to be some overlapping of designations according to what was ordered. Different wheelbases were available. Many parts are available from the aftermarket. I.E. all of the interior cardboard. Nobody builds a truck with this much inherent integrity now. Have fun. Thanks for the videos and take care.
GMC’s were positive ground. Chevy’s were negative ground. This is for US trucks. No telling about Canadian trucks. I have read that some Canadian Chevy trucks came with GMC engines and vice versa. If this is true, proceed carefully. Mike’s (Andrea’s) truck has the 216 Chevy engine. Take care.
Hey Mike, have ya seen the new ZR1 Vette? Twin-Turbo, 1064Hp, one video said 800 pounds of torque? whew .........get a coil, cap-Roter-points, and plugs and plug wires and do yourself a favor rewire the key should be a key and button to start.
That is a 1 1/2 ton considering the 11,000 lb GVW. and short wheelbase, I have a 49 6400 heavy duty 2 ton. on a 167" wheelbase and has a 16,000 GVW, The light duty has press in front bearing caps, and ball bearings. While the heavy duty has bolt on bearings covers, and barrel bearings.
@@mikesgarage6331 My 49 only had the info plate, it told the GVW and had a number on it, but it wasn't the vin number. In Oregon they used the engine number on the title. That caused me a lot of headaches since the original engine was long gone.
You will keep looking at it and you will get interested in this wonderful truck. For sure, a new truck will not last this long. You will get hooked !!!!!!!!
Thanks Mike. Really cool find, and would be a great restoration project. If it doesn't run, then it will be garden art, just needs protecting from further deterioration. If it does run then, how far do you go, it's earned all its battle scars over 77 years. It will be great to see what you do with it. Mike from Lancashire 🇬🇧
Terrific falls! Generally ravens are talkative, but that bunch takes the cake. Now I’m well and truly jealous. That old Chevy looks like a prime driver to me. Next video you do on this, please show the I.d. tag inside the drivers side door. One ton would be a 3800. That looks like maybe a 4400. Except for the dents, really nice shape. Looks like very little rust. Enjoy. Take care.
Yard art? That must have been a heavy pull. No fast maneuvers getting things whipping around. Yeah, when they built 1 ton trucks back then they were built like a truck.
You dont put heat shield around the x pipe, do you have issue with the bumper melting with heat!? If you want some more quiet ride and monster deeper sound when you feel it, take a look on the Borla Attak kit with the AFM and NPP valve. The best of two world!!!
Just did mine today, talking w a Chevy engineer, the flush is not required.. so don’t let people tell you otherwise.. for less than 100 bucks and an hour and a half time, a pretty easy job.. I used ramps and had plenty of room.. the lift is a nice luxury!! 😊
Way too much work, way too complicated and way too many busted and scratched knuckles. And of course way too long. Filling it from the side took me going slowly about 1 1/2hr. That pain was jacking and removing the tire. That’s it.
Now that's a Vette!! Had a '76 for awhile and really miss that one. May not have been the fastest, but it rode great and I'd take it over a new one ANY DAY!
