Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my channel, NurseMDLily. My name is Lily and I am currently an intern, former register nurse.
My channel will have videos on topics such as medical school, the non-traditional applicant, productivity, running, plant-based meal prep and saving money.
Disclaimer: All the content you see on my channel are of my own opinions and views. They do not represent the university I attend or my employer.
Is 24 years old too old to start College and do Pre Med? I was thinking on getting a Bachelors in Nursing and doing Pre Med to apply to Med School. Too late?
Question can i / would you recommend undergrad research hours? For example I’m a premed right now and neuro icu bsn rn, should i do research @university im currently attending
Thank you so much for this video. It randomly showed up in my feed. Im a new grad nurse and I had lost all hope. Now I know I can achieve my dream. I will apply your advice and let you know in a couple of years.
I'm a nurse interested in applying to medical school. Id always thought I wouldnt have the same research opportunities as premed. But your idea on QIP and protocol write ups are awesome ideas! Thank you!
Of course MCAT defines you, it defines your academic capability and potentials, what you learned in premed, and your ability to read and comprehend academic research papers. Maybe this is not your case but generally it predicts board exams results. Who let you in medical School by the way?
@@nursemdlily I said "Maybe this is not the case for you". There are data to support that this is true. Competitive specialty? Like neurosurgery? "Oh you are more than that score" Really? You are leading researches that change how we diagnose and treat patients? When there are special challenging cases, your colleagues turn to you for help? Maybe you get to practice but you are NOT and never will be academically capable as those talented hard working people. They are the ones that make a change to the filed of medicine not you.
I remember watching your videos a few years back when I was considering MD. I’m going to CRNA school now as it better first my lifestyle. Thanks for the update!
So happy to see you match a great residency. I know it is a very competitive residency, did you do lots of extra research and activities in order to match the residency?
I did do some research for radiology to help boost my application. But I had a strong application because I was pretty involved with leadership, research and volunteering as a medical student :)
Thanks for posting again! Im a former nurse and I used to watch your videos when I was applying to apply to med school. Im now a second year MD student! Time flies, best of luck in residency!
Hey! I’m currently taking a pre nurse major, the adn is in person, but the bsn program is online, do you think this will prevent me from being accepted into med school?
How old were you when you started medical school? And looking back now, was it all worth it? Like leaving a high paying job, flexible career? I ask because I’m also trying to discern whether I should pursue NP or proceed with MD route when I’m almost in my 40’s
I started at 29. One of our cardiologists was a prior NP who went to medical school at 45 and is now in her 70s. She was no longer in clinical practice but was teaching us medical students heart sounds. It is not too late for you! I would 100% choose medical school over NP school if I did it again. There’s just so many opportunities once you have an MD or DO. I get to be a radiologist because I went to medical school. med school was very worth it for me.
@@nursemdlily thank you for responding to my comment! Did you specifically chose a non-patient facing specialty? After 15 years of nursing, I think I want to have a non-patient facing specialty (pathology or radiology)
@@Bryan-vm4fg Originally I wanted patient facing but after awhile I truly am just passionate about learning medicine and not managing patients so I am so excited to learn more about radiology. I would have been also happy with pathology!
Hi I am so sorry but I do not have experience with international students and your path to medicine. I am a US citizen and went to a US MD school so I can only really speak on this experience. I wish you best of luck!
I'm glad to find your video. I have been a nurse for almost 4 yeas and plan to take pre-regs courses for medical school. But a lot of courses I took during nursing school were already over 5 years old. Do you have to retake those courses as well?
Best answer to this is reaching out to the medical schools that you want to apply to. Some take old prerequisites and some may want them more recent, each medical school has their own requirements.
Dear sister., Are you know ACBT campus ?now I have been doing the diploma of nursing and will migrate to the Australia. Then I will get a Bsc nursing degree later I will migrate to the medical school. Can I do that with contact or by WhatsApp with you!?❤❤
Hello, I was wondering if it matters where I get my nursing degree? Do you think it is possible to be accepted to med school if I got my nursing degree in a community college?
Its definitely possible but remember to always check out the requirements of the medical schools that you want to apply to, each school may have different requirements and most, if not all, will require a bachelor's degree prior to admission.
Yes you can but make sure you check each medical school's requirements because it varies by each school. I took my physics pre-reqs online and the other hard sciences were in-person labs.
Hi! In a position where i'm confused whether to pursue Nursing or Medicine too 🥹 just wondering, what Medical school do you go to and are you under a scholarship or grant? ☺️ wanna pursue medicine in the states, but it might be too expensive
I am not sure of the process for international students but I imagine it is more expensive for you. I go to an in-state school that is relatively cheaper than most medical schools. They also offered me a tuition scholarship. I have loans for living expenses. Average medical school debt is 250-350k.
I am a nursing student living in Sri Lanka and pursuing a Bsn Nursing degree at the University of Colombo. After graduation, I hope to come to America and work as a nurse. After that, I hope to study medicine at the Medical School of South Carolina. Will my Sri Lanka nursing degree qualify me for admission to a US medical school? Or what requirements should I meet for that?
Hi, most US medical schools require you to be either a US citizen or a permanent resident to apply and also to have a Bachelor's degree from an American institution.
