If I had to do the captions, here is what I would do: 0:04 Good evening. 0:05 My name is Professor Gevister Ownvankar * Biddon. 0:11 Tonight we have a Swedish lesson for you, but there’s a difference. 0:15 It is in Norwegian. 0:18 Now I expect some of you are wondering why I am dressed as a waiter. 0:23 It is because tonight, our lesson is entitled “In the Restaurant”, or as we say in Sweden “Im De Restaurant”. 0:32 But before we go over to the scene, let me explain that as we act out our little drama for you, there will be on the screen subtitles, which, as you know, are used in Swedish films, and which are necessary to explain to the English people what is going on in the bedroom scenes. 0:51 To make it easier, we spell it out for you, we use only one letter for each word. 0:59 Now this also helps with the pronunciation, instead of putting “ Hello” we put “L.O. 1:09 You see on similarly, here we have here, P.T, you see pity. 1:17 And here we have C.T, city. 1:29 T.T. 1:36 And here, we have another picture for you. 1:40 Now come with me and we will begin the lesson. 1:51 L.O. (Hello.) 1:55 L.O (Hello.) 1:59 R.U.B.C. (Are you busy?) 2:03 S.V.R.B.C. (Yes. We are busy.) 2:07 L.O. (Hello.) 2:10 L.O. (Hello.) 2:12 L.O. (Hello.) 2:14 L.O.(Hello.) 2:19 F.U.N.E.X. (Have you any eggs?) 2:22 S.V.F.X. (Yes, we have eggs.) 2:27 F.U.N.E.M. (Have you any ham?) 2:31 9. (No. 2:35 I.F.C.D.M. (I have seen the ham.) 2:39 V.F.N.10.E.M. (We haven’t any ham.) 2:45 A.V.F.M. (Hey! We have ham!) 2:49 R. (Ahhh!) 2:51 O. (Oooh!) 2:54 C.D.M. (See? The ham!) 2:57 O.S.V.F.M. (Oh yes. We have ham.) 3:01 O.K.M.N.X. (Okay. Ham and eggs.) 3:05 M.N.X. (Ham and eggs.) 3:10 F.U.N.E.T. (Have you any tea?) 3:14 1.T. (One tea.) 3:17 1.T. (One tea.)

You know one thing that has always pissed me off about my country (Britain)? The fact we never seem to be able to associate Bavarian/Austrian clothing with the correct nationalities. In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, there were supposed ‘Bulgarians’ with bad Germanic accents and Lederhosen (not even Hungarians with Austrian accents, no. Bulgaria was apparently the same as Austria or Bavaria.) And then the two Ronnies somehow think Germanic clothing (and the word ‘nein’) are Swedish. Grrrrr.

Someone had sent me the Hearing Aids Salesman episode via WhatsApp about a year or so ago. I loved it so much that I saw almost all of their skits in RU-vid. This one - the Swedish Lesson - cheered up a dull day. Here's my tribute to these two timeless masters of comedy: The Two Ronnies, Barker and Corbett Were in every way brilliant and perfect Their wordplay and irreverence Seasoned with ribald insouciance Made life more bearable on this planet

As a Swede I am really curious to know why they speak English with a "German" accent - and also are dressed in German outfits. In reality, Swedes and Dutch are known to have the best English accents of non-English speaking countries. Then again, maybe the purpose of the sketch was just an attempt to make fun of the Swedish language? 🙃
@mrgobrien
@mrgobrien Год назад
yes i noticed those errors - maybe it was because at the time british people were more familiar with how swedes spoke (the chef in the muppets etc) than how germans spoke - that wouldn't explain the outfits though.
@Vinterfrid
@Vinterfrid 3 месяца назад
@@mrgobrien Of course it could also be due to the usual mix-up of Sweden and Switzerland - parts of the latter country is German-speaking.
