The Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust acquired Wentworth Woodhouse in 2017. We’re a charitable Trust with a legal duty to maintain and conserve the historic structures in our care.
But our ambition goes well beyond the protection of magnificent buildings. We’re using the entire site as a catalyst for positive economic change. Serving the communities of South Yorkshire and providing opportunities for people, particularly young people, is at the heart of everything that we do. We’ve made impressive contributions through job creation, apprenticeship schemes, educational programmes and attracting significant levels of inward investment. We’re a major film and TV location and this makes a sizeable impact on the local economy.

These rooms are at the very top of the building not far from the Bedlam wing. You can see some of the rooms in Bedlam on the current Black Diamonds tour, but please book soon as this tour will be coming to an end in December 2024.
We've put a note in the description about how the rooms were used. They are right at the top of the House with windows that look out over the Chapel and towards the gardens.

I visited for the first time earlier this year and was completely blown away at the beauty of the site. Its importance as a heritage asset - educational and recreational - for the local and wider communities is plain to see and I hope the money needed is found (well done, Rotherham Council). Could the Land Fund be called upon?
Thanks! Interior works will start to make more of an impact once the roof works are completed and we're very close to the point where all of the roof work will be finished.
Great restoration.Hope new / modern intrusions are avoided now the Mabel´s School was tear down. Why not using the main entrance for visitors to give then the sensation of important guests?
We're hoping that by moving the ticket office away from the main House, visitors will get more of a sense of what it was like to enter by the main front door when the family lived there. Visitors will go from the Stables down the main drive to the main entrance, so they'll still experience the impact of the House on arrival.

I so enjoy every video you put out. Thank you so much. It is fascinating to watch and to see it all returning to its former glory and more. I do also love the detailed videos where the focus is on a certain area and the detail of how the work is done.
It’s been my favorite ECH ever since I read a biography of Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy who had an affair & died tragically in a plane crash with the 8th Earl Fitzwillam.
This is the south wing of the house. During the Victorian & Edwardian period it was used for young male guests and their male servants & could get very rowdy so they named it bedlam. When it was Lady Mabel College it was used as a dormitory.
Well spotted! He's pure Yorkshire, born and bred :-) The volunteer team which makes the videos doesn't have any budget to bring in actors, so they have to use talent from within their own ranks. Ryan has been with us since January 2022 and will graduate from University later this year.
no man is better than another. Such a rigid class society is distasteful. The world wars knocked it down a few pegs and allowed upward social mobility. It's a small wonder that such society was breeding ground for Marxism.
I'm sure autoregenerative subtitling is a curse for all who have it. Good luck with all your efforts in that enormous house. It's a marathon job to be sure. R
We're working to upload a transcript for this video. Some of the heavily accented spoken English has proved a bit of a challenge for built-in RU-vid caption software.
They must not have had any children. She was geriatric by pregnancy standards when she married at 37. Women now days don’t seem to understand how conception and pregnancy was not easily carried in your late 30’s before expensive medical help could extend the possibility even into the 40’s and even now it’s still not what is safest. What is statistically safest focusing on family while you’re still young and without co-morbidities that could come. There is a big difference between people like my aunt who was unable to have a child before her 40’s and those who think they can bank on it all while taking carcinogenic birth control not realizing the additional risks and issues they are choosing. I know not everyone wants family or adult children will take care of them one day, but many people are sad if children are never their portion, especially if they made poor choices in their youth and those children they could have had are now gone and your alone.
Glad you enjoyed it! We're very proud of our all volunteers- especially when, like "William", they graduated though our own Creative Producers education program such as our actor Ryan did and many others who you may have seen throughout our videos on the channel.
I follow with the sound off and the subtitling on. It bears no relevance to what is actually being said. As I can hear I must sympathise with those who cannot as they may be unablecto grasp what is being said. This is a common problem on tv too I think when the machine cannot transliterate what is being spoken. Poor tech? Poor pronunciation? American kit trying to read English pronunciation? I gave no idea.
We aploagise for this! RU-vid autogenerates subtitles and sometimes doesn't do the best job of it. As a volunteer team, we often struggle to find the time to subtitle our videos for both in house and our RU-vid channel but is something we're pushing to do more regularly in the future. We'll correct these subtitles ASAP for you so you can enjoy the video!
They often walked up to 10-15 miles a day! But normally they just looked after the Earl, his wife and their children. For all those special occasions and house parties, the Fitzwilliams brought in a lot of extra staff from the Estate and Village. Everyone took a lot of pride in showcasing the House - it was a tradition that the villagers would be invited in to see everything set out because they'd all played a part in making it happen.
The next two planned episodes are about the staff but after that we'll be looking at what people would like to see next. We have some fascinating stories to tell! So much history...and so little time! Please stay tuned and subscribed to our channel so we can let you know when these videos release!
