Agh the old Coppertone billboard with the girl and her naughty dog…😂! Can’t do those kinds of advertising again. Fortunately, we still have Del Reeves song to remind us of days gone by. Have a great day!
I was a baby in da crib digging this when the show was aired in 1960 ! I even remember that if I waited , I'd get to hear it again ! I didn't know it was coming from a TV or that what I was hearing was the beginning and end of the show ?

Also when you could call into the radio station and dedicate a song. This song for some crazy reason was always being dedicated to me by guys. Always by my name along with my nickname. That people began to think that was actually my name. When I was home once my oldest brother asked it is your name and it is your nickname and I know you have dated all those guys. Is it you? I just smiled.
I found out this was a Leadbelly song, which made a lot of sense. Lonnie has a voice that would make one shiver, but I have to wonder has he ever been to the Brazos river to see sugar cane.
1st time I heard this driving across New Mexico in the middle of the night. Picked up WWLout of New Orleans on the skip. Flute in a C & W classic???? Are you kidding!!
My Grampy would drive me down this road every time we went south to Bangor, it took us 6hrs to get from presque isle to Bangor due to him stopping at every cross on the side of the road. He had a infatuation with picking the wild forget me nots that were in the woods around the crosses, he’d walk hundreds of feet into the woods until he found some and then shovel em up and put em in the pickup and try to transplant them up home. Though he could’ve just bought seeds they weren’t the same. He wanted the history and the memory of those that died on that road to be in presque isle with us.. love this song and I miss you Grampy
Technically, it should be "high, low, jack, and winner takes game," but that wouldn't fit the meter. It was a trick-taking game that preceded poker by quite some time. The points were highest trump card taken, lowest trump card taken, jack of trump, and "game." Game was calculated by counting the pips on the cards you've captured. The version my parents played, called set back, made the ten of trump game, but it was common practice that whichever side took the most trump points also took the game point. My parents' version had seven points: high, low, jack, jick (west bower, or the jack of the suit of the same color as trump), big joker, little joker, and game. Also, the rank of the cards was significantly different from standard. I forget the order, but I remember the ace wasn't the highest card.
