Hi I'm Harrison a Photographer/Videographer based in Australia. My goal is to share my photography knowledge with you and help you make informed decisions about gear that makes your life easier :)
Bro, please, for the love of fuck, stop it with the mouth noises, there are so many things you can do both before and after recording to get rid of them, they are so annoying to listen to. This video is great, but it'd be so much better without the non-consensual ASMR.
C1 is just the industry standard for most proffessionals working these days. Their raw converter is IMO far superior to lightroom, and the option to use sessions is now my only way to work
Incredible video with a more insane Pre-Set of editing your pictures! Did you create the Pre-Set / way of editing on your own or did you buy it? Regards Luca
Ive worked on two versions of apple photos... You can export jpeg, png, tiff. You can select between raw or jpeg of you ahoot that way. Im not sure what you mean by icloud library only It does have a retouch tool, whoch isn't great for large or conpex removals, but is good for spots. Although I actually think the older version of the tool was better It even has basic perspective correction. I do use a different software for my naming and filing and a first cull, but my raws all just get dragged into photos after that.
The problem is Adobe marketing. They're just too good. I was involved in the original Lightroom beta, and I upgraded almost every iteration until the subscription bomb landed. I just didn't buy in so my version of Lightroom is really old and I can only envy some of the newer features. No matter, the photo organizing abilities along with very photog-centric retouching functions keep it high on my reasons to even use Windows at all. (I'd live in Linux if I could.) All these other tool providers can spend what Adobe did in creating a very user-centric interface but they don't have the organizational guts and experience. Think what Quicken did way back with their first bookkeeping package designed by users. They broke the mold when it came to introducing new products and Adobe learned to do the same. Adobe is accustomed to having their products viewed as the default tools for designers, content purveyors, artists, and production houses through concerted marketing by large, successful product teams. There's even a whole culture of Adobe artists who are pretty snooty about other products. Being self-employed and not paid directly for my artistry, I hate their subscription-only distribution policy and will never pay them again. Which is why I watched this video. Well done, btw. I learned a lot.
As a concert photographer, I use Luminar Neo for one great thing: you can export to Neo, and pull down the background exposure to make the back line of the band (or the wall behind) almost totally dark. Click Apply and it takes you back to the program you edited it in. I use that one tool in Neo probably a half-dozen times on each photo session.
I fricking love darktable (might be because I used to study programming), yeah, some of the names annoyed me because they were different, but they were mostly descriptive enough provided you know physics and color theory.
Photomator relies on apple's raw engine. I saw people saying this applies noise reduction within Photomator whether one likes it or not. I run my own tests and that seems to be the case. I found that applying the high res option can help, but this doesn't seem like a long term solution to the issue. As things stand I'm getting considerably better results using darktable. There is a substantial learning curve with darktable,, and I love the performance of Photomator, but the apple raw engine almost makes it a no-go for me at the moment. If that is ever fixed, I'll jump in without a second thought.
Perpetual license for Photomator is $120 in August of 2024, not $55, if that was in fact true a year ago; maybe that's a typo in the video. Got me all excited, until I checked the actual cost.
Rawtherapee does have a HSL editor - it's called HSV Equalizer and I find it more powerful than lightrooms version. I started off using Rawtherapee until i was ready to pay for Lightroom (once i built up my business) and to be honest the only reason why Lightroom is better for my business workflow is due to the Ai features (masking, generative removal etc). If I'm editing for my own stuff with no time pressure to manually make masks etc Rawtherapee is actually more satisfying. I actually prefer the individual pp3 files (basically like a single catolog per photo) rather than one big catolog file for all your edits that get slow and laggy once it starts growing!
I can see the programs at the end of the video you lost complete interest in reviewing the actual program. You didn't even give an actual rating at the end of the section like you did at the beginning XD
I started editing my photos in PS like 3 when it was very manual, glad I did because I can edit great in other programs. This made me happy when Serif brought out Photo I dropped Adobe like a hot potato, never looked back.
Darktable is powerful, it can be technical, but it can work automatically, and with their presets, most likely a good photo is just after click away. I used Aperture. The one thing I learn from using Aperture is I can lost my asset or efford because the software company decides to stop supporting their product. I suffered from moving from Aperture to PS, ans PS to Darktable, I dont want to move from PS to CaptureOne and be told captureOne is no longer supported or become too expensive 5 years, or 10000 photos down the line. I decided to learn Darktable. I would say, move out of the box, Darktable is not as difficult as you think.
This is my favorite iteration of the rx100!! I just wish it had either a touchscreen or joystick haha. But yes most of my pics from my Tokyo trip last year were on this camera. No regrets.
This was helpful, thank you! I only have a Lightroom subscription, but now you've made me think I should get Photoshop too. Would love to see some photography tips from you, to get crazy good shots like that one ☝ in the first place!
