I have been riding a 2003 Honda Gold wing for over 20 years now and with my increasing age (80), I find it's just a bit much to handle anymore. Plus I don't tour any longer (140,000 kms in those years all over North America) and wanted a bike that is fast, comfortable and easy to ride for the occasional day trip. So I bought a 2006 Bergman on a whim for very little money, and haven't looked back. Added a Clearview windshield , a better backrest, plus an Airhawk seat, and it's almost as comfortable as the Wing. This is very much a fun bike to ride and I really don't miss the Wing anymore (I sold it the other day and it's gone....). I really feel this bike is perfect for me in every way now for the few years of driving I have left. Only thing different, is you no longer get the waves from the Harley guys but take a guess how much that bothers me.....😆 It's a damn shame Suzuki stopped making this model.
Hello Bob. Thank you for your story, I always wanted a Goldwing but could never afford one so am envious of you and your long rides but pleased you like the Suzuki. I have moved on now myself and have bought a Royal Enfield 350 classic in red. I lovely little bike that keeps me riding for a few more years. All the best .Ken
I just had my 300 mile service done £209 no valve clearance adjustment now not done till 6000 mile service .....do you think this is because people was having first service then doing their own.
I don't really know, I would have thought most people would have their first service done at the garage then doing their own 6000 which is more or less and oil change, or was any way. Your £209 seems a lot if they haven't done the tappets as the tank has to come off so not doing that make the job a lot easier for the garage. Are you in the uk.
I don't understand why this isn't in the manual, setting the time is such a basic need. However i did try to set the password but it requires the original password........ Any idea where I can find this.
Hello Alex. I have just been for a ride and thought I would give it a go/ Did you get as far as the 1. Password on startup and 2. Set Password page. I didn't try any further is case i got locked out of my bike. Ken@@AlexShaw
@@kennuff2 I set it up so that a password is required and then went down to the next section where you set the password itself. Here I had two tries and got it wrong so I just switched the bike off and back on again. It defaulted back to no password required.
Hello. Thank you for your kind comment.I have not been riding for about a year now because I have a trapped nerve in my back that has caused my legs to be almost numb and didnt feel safe riding. However I have seen some improvement lately do intend getting the bike out again, all I need is some decent weather so watch this space. Kind regards Ken
Hello all Carrera Crossfire ebikers. I had the MK2 for just two weeks short of two years when my bike lost power. I took it to Halfords and they had to replace the motor, ecu, battery and nearly everything electrical. god knows what it would have cost but all done under warranty excellent service from Halfords. Just letting you know. 'The Wolds rider'.
Hello. Are you sure that you are pressing the menus button within ten seconds of switching the battery on, if not you will only be in the trip settings. Watch the video again and follow my instructions
@@kennuff2hi Ken I realised what I did wrong😂 I wasn’t doing it straight after putting the battery in, I was doing it with the battery already in and wondering why it didn’t work. Thanks for your help 😁
full of detail and nice chat well done . when i get my classic i think i will be making the back of number plate black , for looks, please mind you do not advertise in your filming where you live and store your bike , keep up the good work
very nice ride it was good to ride with you, in march i will be getting a halcyon black classic, thank you for the history and cleaning tips. I am short in leg but still hope to ride with touring seat and rack, with in time panniers fitted. will do my running in with trips out from reading berkshire uk, nice with spring around the corner......safe riding
Great information thank you. Does the power bank have a brand name ? as previously I've bought a few duds off ebay that are just junk really. Cheers I do have a usb port on my ebike control display but I might not want to drain that battery while out riding, it might give me range anxiety with a 39 kg bike.
Helllo. I have had that power bank years and it has been very reliable. However I lost it on a motorcycle ride then found it two hours later on my return trip, it was in the middle of the road and dented to hell but it still works, The name on it is or looks like 'sunnydeal'. I do not trust it now because of the damage so bought two others from Amazon they were on offer @ two for about £12 and are called ' Milady'. I have had these a year and they seem ok . hope that helps and thanks for the comment. Ken
I made one using the basics of Kens design. Of course the measurements are in Centimetres and not Millimetres and I made mine not so high as I need to strap a 60 litre roll bag onto the back seat and it wouldn’t fit with the back rest at 35cms high. I actually made a template of the metal work by pushing the frame into a piece of corrugated cardboard, drew around it then marked the holes then cut it out, this made it far easier to mark the holes onto the plywood as the metal poles as Ken says ,are rounded at the back and the frame rocks when trying to mark the hole positions. So make a cardboard template and use that for drawing around. I used 12mm ply as recommended but that spare piece Ken had looks a lot thicker than 12mm ? Using a 25mm Forstener bit to make the countersinks I found that when drilling at the same angle as the poles it went through the 12mm ply so I ended up making 2 holes ( still works fine ) For stud jointers I used joint connector nuts m6 x 12mm from screwfix cat number is 83501 . These thread onto the studs using an allen key , much easier than using an hexagonal stud connector and nut. When you cover the plate in leather cloth you will need to make three holes in it so it can slot onto the studs and again when attaching the metal work to the board. Instead of drawing pins I used black upholstery tacks but these were the only changes I made from Kens excellent design.
Hello. thank you for your input and interpretation of my design. I am knocking on 80 now so its no wonder I mixed up the cms and mms. Perhaps I should have stuck to feet and inches. Thanks Ken
No not knocking you at all Ken I’m a feet and inches man myself. I take my hat off to you for still riding and coming up with such a great idea and neat job for raising the back rest. I’m going to copy your accessory bar idea too .@@kennuff2 👏👏👏
its ok i know you were not getting at me and you are not the first to mention it. That accessory bar works well, iIonly made a rough one to test it but ended leaving it on. regards Ken@@BIGMC1300
Hello Hugh. Yes I am riding now but have been out of action for some time as I fell in the ice and landed on my right hip, I dont know what I had done except spend a couple of Hundred pound at the Chiropractors hence no new videos. Thanks for asking. Ken@@hughphillips1427
@@hughphillips1427 Thanks for your kind thoughts Hugh. Yes I have been on the bike but only the once. Since my legs shot in he air on the ice and I landed on my left hip I have had pins and needles permanently in both legs, I think its called piriforma syndrome . I am having a scan in three to five months time !!!. I'm ok though and still will be riding. Regards Ken
I absolutely enjoyed your trip, so beautiful over there... My dream is to pick up missus and rent a bike, preferably RE 350 and two of us travel the backroads of UK wherever the road leads us... One day, one day... Greetings from Eilat, Israel! p.s. I did not find your info about cruise control gadget?
Eilat.Thank you for your kind comment, I hope you realise your dream. I haven't done anything specific on the cruise control but you will find them on Ebay, a little different than mine because they now have an adjustment screw. They were about £6 UK. Regards Ken
I’m looking for another scooter , I’ve only had my Vespa GTS 300 for a couple of months for my daily commute and general runabout but now I’m getting old it gives me a back ache in about ten minutes and it doesn’t matter how I move about . I’ve looked at all the maxi scooters even those it’s pig ugly it’s still the best of the lot , I road along side a elderly gentleman on a Bergman Executive and he looked like a cat that had got the cream. I’m gona trade in my Vespa and get myself one . 😁🇬🇧🏍
Did me own 300mile 2 valves and an oil change quoted 300 quid ? On your bike mate. Hardest job on the 350 classic is taking the tank off. Which took a whole 10 minutes. Garage rip off . Use the genuine parts and do it right the warrantee is fully valid still. And I still wonder how many just earwig the rocker cover and dont do a thing. As it was the factory had set the exhaust tappet too tight.v
Hello. Yes they are waterproof. I recently bought a new pair of gaiters from ebay, they start at about £6 upwards, I bought the cheap ones but just be careful with the zip. Thanks
Thank you. Have no manual with the bike. The bike is great and now the clock is right. Had to reset the data at 999.9miles, even though the odometer still works. Odd.
Yes I think there are some bugs in this system. Last year I had 550 miles on the odometer but next time I switched the battery on for my next ride the odometer only read 200 odd miles.?
That’s an excellent tip about the jis screwdriver set, (Japanese industry standard) I could never figure out why all it took was a tight so called Philips screw on a Japanese bike to end up with a messed up rounded head, I blamed the quality of their fasteners. But no, they have their own system which looks very similar. A decent lifetime set is very reasonable. I’ve just bought a 2011 Burgman 650 executive and I think I will be making one of these. Thanks
Hi David, Thanks for the comments. That seat back certainly improved the comfort of the bike. Enjoy your burgman. I mess about stripping and cleaning camera lenses and nearly wrecked the first one with a phillips screwdriver then found out about the jis set so bought one, wonderful. Ken
Thanks for the vid👍. Test rode this and the Meteor 350 recently. Also stepping down from much bigger bikes, I had pre-adjusted my expectations but was astonished at how good they were. Also impressed by the pillion carrying capability of the Classic 350 - I ride with pillion 90% of the time. The suspension was plush - a lot better than some much more expensive bikes I've owned. The brakes I found more than adequate - once I'd started using four fingers on the lever having got used to using just two over the years. The rear brake helps as you say, but with pillion I'm used to using more rear brake than when solo. The engine braking of the single helps too of course. Plenty of colour choices in the range, I particularly like the Halcyon Green.
Hi, I'm considering purchasing an electric bike for my work commute. I live in Finland and needless to say the winters are very cold. Morning commute could be -25c. Obviously battery is removed from the bike always and not left outside. I was thinking though since my commute is not that long and the battery is integrated into the frame insulation will not be needed. Battery will of course eventually reach ambient but if rides aren't too long I figure it should be OK. What do you think? Wind protection, gatter or frame should plslpe down the battery reaching ambient temp.
Hello, good luck riding in minus 25. I have only ridden in temperatures on zero and fell off the bike in the ice so beware. If you are only on a short commute you should be ok. My rides usually last 1.5 to 2 hours and the battery certainly performs longer and has more power left at the end of the ride. Perhaps you could contact the manufacturers and seek their advice ss I really dont know the answer. Ken
@The Wolds Rider rides again hello, yes I have been comuting by bicycle for 3 years now all year round. I have studded tyres so it is no problem. Just thinking of transferring to e-bike. Thanks anyway!
There's always some losses of heat (energy) in cold, and ways to prevent that. Wind covers, usb heating element, xps foam etc, those should give you more range.
Am I the only one who knows that when you park a motorcycle you should always park the from wheel in line with the rest of the bike and not at 45% to it, I don’t know why it just looks so much better, am I the only one who sees this or are there others out there who knows what I’m talking about.
I suppose its natural for the front wheel to be turned towards the kerb and I think it looks fine so you cant say you should always put it straight. Remember my bike was on its side stand in the picture. Its all in the eye of the beholder but thanks for your comment.
Hello keith. I bought it on ebay to use as a small storage bag when I go wild camping. I cant remember the name exactly but it was something like a 'responce' bag' or ' resource ', It was about £10 but well made with plenty of pockets. I strap it across the handlebars on my cycle as well. Hope this helps. Ken
Keith I have just found it on ebay, it is a Snugpac response bag but the one I found was £27 , I don't think I paid that for it but search on ebay or Amazon and you should find a better deal. Ken
I dont quite understand your question but if you press the mode button for 3 seconds and within 10 seconds of switching your battery on you will access the settings. Use your up and down buttons and you can scroll through the options. There is one there for 'reset' that you can press. Otherwise I would go back to Halfords. hope this helps.
@@MikT81 I must admit Halfords didnt seem to know a lot about my Carrera when I bought it. Have you seen my second video on this subject, if not have a look at that. It might help.
