Shows are awesome! You just need to be careful of who you buy from. There are a lot of people there who are selling sick and diseased animals. I always recommend knowing what you are looking for and who you are buying from if you plan to buy from a show.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles I’ll go back and look! I started following you years ago, but now that I’m in a place to take my hobby more seriously I’m glad your channel is here to bring updated and down to Earth content! The Patreon is great too!
Great honest information. I’m so close to taking the leap of faith and taking what’s been a passion and hobby for me and trying to make it something more. I don’t need to chase dreams and try to be the next big face. Sharing this passion with other people and getting others in the hobby while turning a coin once in a while just seems like something that could be worthwhile. Do you think you could do a video breaking down what entry level breeders could do to get started? Anything from racks to budgeting to overall branding tips you’ve learned?
Man.... I wish the timing was a little different. I am someone who got into this hobby during COVID, but I've always loved reptiles and Boas especially. I feel lucky that I was in a position to buy over ten really cool animals and provide them with awesome bioactive habitats and enjoy being around them at any time (I worked from home). Unfortunately I made a mistake and now for the first time in my 45 years on this planet I have to go to prison. Anyways, this means I am having to rehome everything. I got a morph market account and I don't know how some people make a living doing this lol... I think I understand the breeder's complaints a little bit better now. I never intended to make any money, I was just going to have a project or two for my own enjoyment and it's really pretty heart breaking to be practically giving all these beautiful animals away. It seems like my reptile room is shrinking daily and it's devastating. I literally cried after I dropped my first Imperator girl (just a common Boa) off at the hub... Anyways not really sure why I shared this with a bunch of strangers, I guess it's just a way to vent. Thank you Jason for the amazing two Boas I was lucky enough to purchase from you and as always you knocked it out of the park on this one! Thanks again and best wishes to everyone here!
That sucks to hear man. Definitely not easy making this a business, but there is a way and a process. Anytime you have to do something quickly, you’re going to take a loss. We don’t have the time to wait for the better deal. I think patience is something a lot of people lack when selling animals. It’s not something that happens overnight. It certainly can, but it may take years to sell an animal and get the a real price.
100%. I want to see how they develop, and I personally don’t like playing the new morph game. It’s too high stress trying to get invested money back and sucks the fun out of it in my opinion.
Out these 5 boas size and girth rate top to bottom 1 being the largest. Nicaragua boas , hog island boas, pearl island boas, emerald basin's boas, Brazilian rainbow boa? I know there all arboreal. Can any of these breeds mix?

Which is more likely to appear larger pearl islands Nicaraguan or hog island boas at 6-7 adults which will be bulky thicker than other ? And a 5-6 ft gallon tank should suit my adult ? Also hear they love climb and are bird eaters do they eat adult pigeons, dove's ? And can they do well on lizards too mix with rodent's? Also will they eat squirrels?

They should all be able the same. They likely won’t eat lizards, and I wouldn’t feed things like birds or lizards unless they are captive bred prey for the purpose of feeding. Too many parasite and potential diseases from the wild animals.
Hi man I just got my male pearl Burmese phyton and your past videos helps me a lot. It alters my perspective about boas and burms. People just make them intimidating by powerfeeding and turn the muscular snake into obese. Thanks a lot
@@JasonsExoticReptiles Thanks man I'd still watching your videos about them even though I've already watched and I will apply all the stuff that I've learned from it
been out of the US and moving around too much and out of the hobby for the past 5 years. This reminds me how much I miss going to the expos. Thanks for this bit of nostalgia.
Really like the vlog style. Great to see Groveland Gecko in the video also. I sorta disagree on having the enclosure set up before you buy. In my case, I'm glad I did with my first one because it took a bit to get dialed in before it was suitable for an animal. So at least on your first animal, if nothing else at least have a plan for the enclosure. But that's my experience, I know everyone is different.
Thank you! And I agree that it’s really dependent on experience and level of comfort. I’ve had people buy animals from me and have me hold them for a month or two before they receive so they can get everything perfect, and I’ve also had people buy and set things up on the way home. I had someone buy and animal from me at this show, but I literally walked around the show with them and got them everything the needed. All they needed to do was plug in.
Great video! Do you ever come to any Long Island reptile expos? I’d love to see your snakes in person. I love the class and professionalism you bring to breeding/the hobby. Your videos are a master class on boas.
Thank you! I will occasionally attend, but I don’t vend the NY expos. The promoters give a hard time to get in them as a vendor and you also need a NY business license which adds another level to doing taxes. I don’t do enough shows for me to justify the hassle of the NY business license.
Thanks man! I appreciate it! Very happy to hear everything’s going well. I’m always here if you have questions. IG/FB is the best way to get me if you do!
@@JasonsExoticReptiles it’s going super well! Handling often, eating great, went through first shed about a week ago. I’ll reach out if I never need help with something!
Much honor to you for helping put the names out for people who are getting started and support the hobby. That is about the most unself-ful approach you can have, putting the spotlight on them. Great video..
Thank you! I feel like the new breeders trying to do a good job are the future of the hobby. Their success is critical to continued growth of reptiles.
my ball python girl is active. Unless she is digesting a big meal she is climbing up a fake tree to reach an ambush position, cruising around, visiting her different hides, ambushing the spot where the terrarium opens😂 and so on. Fun to watch. BUT all this activity takes place between 1a.m. and 4a.m. She is strictly nocturnal and will not come out if there is light in the room.If she is out she graciously tolerates light though. I wonder how many ball python owners complaining about their "living stone" just miss everything because they go to sleep at 11 p.m.....
@@JasonsExoticReptiles that’s awesome! I am trying to get one for my birthday Aug 20th and would love to have one. Is there anyway to stay up to date on this? It’s been a dream of mine to have one young and work with it to be very docile from a young age and love on it, but it’s hard to find them as babies.
Hello me and my father had found a baby wild borneo short tail snake and we are planning to keep it. It has been 3 days ever since. We had pressed the snake's head few times but after watching this, I'm wondering that after we treated our snake wrong, can we really fix their perspective towards us being a predator to them? would it take a long time for them to relieve their stress and then finally we can train them again? would the training methods be different? I'm very sorry for the long comment, I really cant rest well knowing I've treated my snake wrong :( please help
Excellent video and excellent advice! Setting yourself apart and knowing how to talk to people is definitely key. This awesome guy came to my table yesterday talking about trying to figure out what kind of snake he wanted bc he wanted something that was engaging but stayed small. We talked for a good 40 minutes and he didn't buy anything yesterday bc he wanted to prepare more but I'm certain he will come back to me when he's ready bc we talked about so much to do with boa care and i got him hooked on them!
1000%. If the discussions are only to make a sale and not help people find the perfect animal for them, the breeders/seller generally do not do well in the long term. What you did is exactly what I do. There are times where I could force a sale and I know I could make one, but I would rather the person walk away, knowing that it was their decision and they got the animal that they wanted rather than the animal that I sold them.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles exactly! I actually wound up selling my crb to a really awesome person who had never heard of them before. It was a perfect fit too bc the crb would routinely bite me so I gave them a heads up that that was a distinct possibility and the CRB really liked them and never so much as thought about it. Perfect fit is the end goal always!
