Do you know the fairy tale "The Emperors New Clothes" ? Con artists pretend to make expensive clothes for a vain Emperor. The cons claim the clothes are magic, and anyone who can't see them is not fit for their job. Everyone is afraid to talk at first. ...... Aspies are the ones who say, "The Emperor is naked!" Society needs that. But it doesn't always make us popular.

Very informative. But every movement and thing we do or say is Not fake. We actually Do express our authentic self in various ways too. We do not just mask or copy. We have a personality and abilities to express ourselves too hey. Only the people who really know us will know the difference. And when growing up and becoming mature emotionally we stop acting like we want to control everyone like we are "God". Trying to control because you are a narcissist and trying to control because you are trying to be safe is two completely different worlds.

I laughed so hard when you said that "she moved her mattress into the barn". I have 2 chickens, they live in the house. At 42 yrs old Ive aware that im I'm autistic for 2 years while going threw a life change ( taking off the mask ), I've passed all the online tests from the AQ, the Raads ... about 6 tests in total so far, and pass them all with high numbers. However no one hears me, or understands what it even means, my family refuses to believe I can self diagnose myself ... Sooooo I have emotional support chickens instead.

Almost all of it resonates with me. Even the special interests being odd because if its intensity, rather than its quirkiness. The thing is, I'm a man. But I'm such a high-masking autistic man that I often say I have the feminine version of Asperger's.

Ah just realising this is me! I always wondered why I got so excited by freight trains. I could never explain it and darent share it with anyone. Its a weird feeling, its not sexual, but on a par with that level of excitement. I also found some tinsel in Lidl the other day that gave me the same feeling 😂 I've always been quite lucky as people tend to like me, just learning how to pick better friends and hopefully the 2nd half of my life will be easier and more fulfilling 🤞

I'm an Aspergers mother of two Aspergers kids (adult son, teenage daughter). I went through hell growing up because I didn't know why I was different and had severe anxiety TRYING to mimic social behavior, but never being able to really pull it off. I'm 50 now and only pieced it together around a decade ago that Asperger's/autism applies to me and also to my children. Just finding out why I am the way I am was such a relief. And it allowed me to be an awesome mother to my two autistic kids because I can help them not feel caught up in the trap of trying to fit in and, instead, just be ok being themselves. And it helps that the school system in our town has actively worked at creating a safe space in schools stressing "kindness matters" and not allowing bullying. My daughter is going through the pressures of high school, but has never witnessed bullying and is happy wearing comfortable clothes, making friends at her own pace, and being herself. I make sure my kids know that I support their special interests and that I love that their extensive knowledge of their topics makes them unique. It makes me happy to see them so much happier and having none of the anxieties I had of trying to make myself fit into a world that wasn't made for me. I'm making a world for them.

I like that he talked about Hermione. having a very deep connection with the Harry Potter franchise ( still seeing the problems with the author's image of women in the books) and being diagnosed, I always thought the full golden trio was not neurotypical. Harry is very blind to his surroundings, he has a sense for moral but he doesn't care too much for people outside his circle of friends and family. He focuses on one task and sometimes loses focus on other things (like his friend popping up randomly due to a time turner for example). I feel like that an ASD thing... the concentration I mean. either something is important or it's not important at all... there's nothing gradual when it comes to focus. focus is a very binary. there's actually one scene in the first book that decribes how the trio gather's information. Hermione having a list of topics, Harry searching goal-orientated and Ron...randomly pulls out books and hopes something catches his eye. now that sounds not very methodical right? but the thing is that he learned in the life before that this is what works for him. He is able to maintain random information in his head without them being presented in an orderly many. he doesn't need information to structured in a simple to swallow way like a neurotypical person. He can keep all his choco frog card in his head just because he likes them. He can copy a voice he heard once perfectly to the point that people that live with this person don't detect it. he can work with broken and faulty equipment and go through school without a major hick-up. this kid is the stereotypical underachiever, he is just as smart as Hermione, but he is not interested in academics, he is interested in Quidditch and Chess. Different than Hermione and Harry he is not an only child though...he had siblings that he could copy...well some of them might be also not NT (Percy, maybe Charlie) but since in a relatively heathy sibling dynamic the family won't stop including you while you try to figure out how human interaction works, he had much more time to practise and on the whole seems like the most socially adept out of the three...and someone still said he has that emotional range of a tea spoon.

You can tell Dr. Attwood works with Children: unlike many academics he is very engaging and fun to listen to. I think his biggest contribution is being able to help those without Aspergers/ASD understand a bit more what it is like. I've talked to many parents who said his content has helped them understand and connect with their children more.

Boys can present with “female” traits and not be diagnosed. I am 52 and just self realized because no medical professional would attempt to diagnose me. So I am not a new case, just a new diagnosis. And it is stereotypical that we can’t read emotions in others. Some of us have uncanny intuition and it hurts. It’s great that a marginalized group (women) are getting fair observation and treatment, but neurotypical scientists are falling into the same trap of stereotyping. Autism was originally thought to be a case of being TOO male, but now, surprise, women can have the condition! Now female presenting autism is a thing and it is still wrong. How long will it be before someone is giving a Ted talk about all the autistic males who slipped though the cracks because they present “female” autism. FYI, I am non-binary, an attitude which is statistically higher in people with autism. So how do I fit into your view of “female” autism. Yes, we need more autistic doctors and scientists. Social situations are confusing to honest people.

I'm really sad that Tony went from a world of lets force autistic people to be normal harming them in the process and not learning from the catastrophic mistake. It's the WORST case of survivor bias, I've ever seen in science... So young boys get diagnosed more, so your data is based on diagnosed boys, but what if you just take late diagnosed men and women, how is the ratio of high masking? The Effing reason men get late diagnosed is that they HIGH MASK!

Sadist thing is the girls in my family have all been getting late adult ASD 1 diagnosis, inculding me and " fake it untill you make it " should be written in Latin on our coat of arms . 6 of us in the past 7 years and that covers 85% of all of my female siblings and furst cousins all due to recomedations when their children where being assessed. And half if use that got asd1 got compbitation type adhd too. Just one thing as a heads up for perants of aspie girls . When your daughter hits kinder teach skirt manners and tell them this is practic time for school or you can just wear shorts under skirts as this kind of body awareness is not a thing in day care , kinder or in the home and they get very comfortable with same sex toilets and any one seeing them in certain states of undress. I had to tell miss 4 that the only people that are allowed to see her undies from now on is either mum , dad at home or other girls only in change rooms like at the pool and that means if you plan on hanging up side down on the play equipment all luch break at school, your to either wear some sort of pants like jeans , trackies or legging but if its warm shorts are fine . All these cover your undies and some kids say stupid things if they see your undies , lets just dodge that bit of teasing. But same level of lack of body awarness in a 14 yo , my sister , she had clothing down ok , bit overborad to a point as it was jumpers and jeans in 40 degree weather but i had to pull her aside and have a very uncofotable converstation that she was greating people , all people including adult males by giving the a hug and a kiss on the neck. I had been aproched by a male friend of mine at the time that was 23 yo and he was freaking out that he may be seen as a predator if someone did not understand what they just seen and accuse him of being sexual with miners. He did the step away from hugs with her and that got her quite upset but he dosent want to hurt her feelings but he dosent want to be answering to ploice either. I had to sit her down and explain that unless someone is a willing participant as a boyfriend and or girlfriend in the romantic way and that is somethi g you may want to hold off on untill your closer to 16 .then only with that romantic partner is neck kissing ok and from this point on you dont kiss peoples necks AT ALL as your freaking out grown men and they are worried that they may go to goal for your actions and if any thats an adult or more than 3 years older than you and they insists on kissing you neck touching your bum , vagina or breasts and suggests seeing you in any state of undress from this point on , you tell me straight away , ring if needs be in the moment and ill sort them out but in that moment ,first just run screaming pedo loudly towards a crowed as their is safty in numbers and tell any adult women what just happened. They will keep you safe. It stops NOW for your safty. As ivd been in dangerous potsions as a teen with men and i dont want the repeat it to happen to you. I was conpleatly oblivious as a young teen as i was a tom boy and the boys i knew as friends started treating very diffently once pubilty hit and i was so bodily un aware that i had grown men commenting on by breasts at 14 and thats not OK ! Regardless if we develop early in my family.

Now that I think about it, I used to (and still do) try to find connections between characters in books and people I know in real life. I also identify with characters a lot too, both fictional and non-fictional (historical people for example). It’s like imagining the people I know in real life as if they were in my imaginary world makes it easier to communicate with them and it helps me understand social dynamics better. Wow. Just typing that out blew my mind. I never really thought about why I did that but it’s always happened!

Not feeling like people will like the real you is NOT a sign of anything but the the suppression of our feelings and thoughts that virtually all of us experience by the time we're able to walk. Show me a child, adolescent, or adult that doesn't feel that they wouldn't be liked if they showed their true feelings and thoughts --especially in this day and age. When the hell are we going to learn to stop pathologizing the behaviors we are forced to adopt instead of questioning the societal constructs, expectations, and norms that demand we conform or else be labeled abnormal with all the damned psychiatric labels that come with it. smfh
