The OD-15 is based off a 15w Fender Deluxe style circuit played with a Peavey ceramic single coil loaded Strat. Not a lot of bass going into it. I was trying to show the chime sound it gets without sounding harsh. Hook up an Lp and set the EQ for thicker sound it will get a good bass response. BTW, the compressor kicks in an makes get that country clean. I do have other demos of the OD series with LP and PRS style guitars that get great thick sound, you just gotta search through the videos made early on. I stopped making demos of OD and HD series once the HandWired series was released as the #2204HW and #1987HW became my “go-to” heads
A prominent YT ham radio and amp tech/designer gave the Wang amps a good review, but only suggested they use better quality tube sockets, which may become faulty due to the loose/cheap tin pins. He recommended some Belden sockets. I suppose it's something the user can do if they know how to solder and don't forget how to wire them back up.
In the late 70s, I briefly worked at a metal fabrication shop that made keyboard panels for the now defunct Wang computer company. My job was to scrape the excess paint off the panel edges with a stick after they came out of the oven. So, I guess my job was to scrape the crud off Wangs.
I have all the Biyang BabyBoom pedals. They are top quality all the way. Sad they dont get the recognition they deserve. I hear a lot of great things about the Wangs amps. Nothing negative so far. I guess peiple just have this stigma about China made products being cheap. Heck. Even people think Chinese trees are somehow cheaper. I find that funny. While there is a basis for this prejudice, there are many high quality companies in China that are making high quality equipment, guitars etc. Biyang is one of those.
@@wangsamps I’m always compelled to comment 🤣. I actually don’t have one, though I think I’ve watched every video. I do hope to be able to be able to purchase the Soldano homage one day!
We all make the jokes. It's impossible not to. I tell my wife she is lucky because I have 4 Wangs, each of varying size. One in my pants and 3 in my music room. 😂😂😂
@@wangsamps I'd you ever saw that rough video I have in my channel of me with an electric guitar, singing and playing; I think I had the OD-30 with a vintage Marshall Guv'nor supplying the dirty tone. Imagine how it will sound with proper microphones and bass and drums.
Ah…I understand now - yes, this is true about a Plexi which was the point of this video. A Marshall with the settings I use in this video will sound weak indeed. But with the Wangs it still keeps a good solid tone with the settings below the recommended settings for a Marshall. I understand it is below the edge of break-up point of the bridged setting above 7 but I’m getting a very good clean sound (I always use a jumper to run it parallel)
Been making plans to take back my music room after using it for renovation storage... now I find myself with G.A.S. for one of those Shijie strats to replace my Fender that I sold to finance my divorce. 😂
Thats a great demo of the 2204. Most players focus on the overdrive tones. Its nice to see I'm not the only one that has explored the possibilities of its clean capabilities.
It’s just something I wrote awhile back. I sing every track and play every instrument and recorded it in an 8 hour work day. It’s just supposed to be a fun, self deprecating sarcastic song
I wonder if a touring musician would be forced to bring a different guitar and their PRS wood reserve models result in being turned away or confiscation if they tried to cross the border with it? Would suck either way if someone wasn't aware of what they had and traveled far before either of those scenarios played out.
question: I was wondering about attenuation pedals. Not all amps have a way to play at bedroom levels so wondering if the pedals, EHX make a pedal and JHS have a black box, but do they work well as part of a chain? Would Master volume be a better option? I think with the living arrangements of people this could be a good show or couple shows to address this.
Since i was a kid i loved playing with my Wang, i'd play with my Wang in the morning, noon and night...I even played my Wang in front of my parents! Heck i got caught playing with my Wang at school because i was a bit loud with it! So folks, never be afraid to play with your Wang, even in front of people, because they will one day, pay you good money to see you playing with your Wang! 😉😁
The biggest question about amps is: How is it grounded? Is it soldered directly to the chassis, is it clipped on or is it screwed down? If the ground isn’t soldered to the chassis it will need work.
I built a custom pedal for one of the US Wangs distributors a few years ago. I asked him if I could get them to make me a signature series that I would call the "Massive Wang."
@@wangsampsI took a job a while back as an engineer on a MASSIVE project, and it killed my time to do pedals. I'm about to finish up this project then I'll be full swing with pedals again. I did use all this "downtime" to design a ton of new circuits, so when I get going again I'll have a ton of new stuff. I knew working these 70-80 hour weeks wouldn't give me time to fill orders fast enough, but I'm dying to ramp up again. I'll definitely hit you up!
@@wangsamps thanks, bro! If you saw under the board, you'd really flip out over how I mount all the dual gang concentric pots to the board. They are all soldered to a daughter board then the daughter board is connected to the main with ribbon cables (or it might be individual wires, I did that for the first few) If you try, just be warned it's a pain to line it all back up again lol the one you have was an earlier version and I was using the much more shallow 1590bb enclosures. I love their smaller size, but I now use a 1590bbs which is about twice as deep.
@@wangsamps Ah I see, Wong & Hwong! Why not just spell it that way in western alphabets? Cos in English Wang rhymes with bang! Time to update the Pinyin! Xie xie!
