Christian Homeschool Mom of 10 Years - You can homeschool high school, and I'm here to encourage you, share what has worked for my family, and share the resources I have used to educate myself on how to do this with excellence!
Hi Jenny, I have 2 older shih-tzus and one of them has awful ear troubles, too...I'm actually taking her in to the vet at 8:20 tomorrow morning! Say a prayer for us. Can I ask you the name of the medication that worked for your golden? I hope she is feeling better! ❤
I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. I’ve been following you for probably 2-3 months, and I love the “live” chatty format (even though I never manage to catch them live). I’ve got a 9th grader (only child) who I’ve homeschooled since kindergarten, so like you, I’m more comfortable tweaking curriculum to meet our needs.
I always love a long update 😂 feeding the baby, having my morning coffee and catching up with Jenny! 😊 half way through and just an idea for Jack- here in Florida, they have a Bible Institute for newly graduated teens out of high school that is 1 year long. The purpose is to fill a gap year if they are still unsure if they want to go to college or if they’re interested in seminary but aren’t 100% sure yet. it is a year of intense Bible learning, ending with a class trip to the Holy Land. Maybe they have something similar in Georgia? If he isn’t comfortable yet leaving home- they do have housing for them here in Florida. Not sure if that’s something he would be interested in. It’s the Great Commission Bible Institute in Sebring, FL. I just saw on their website they now have online classes as well! The founder and professor has uploaded many teaching videos on RU-vid if you want to look them up- they’re called “One Book, One Hour” where he deep dives for an hour in each book of the Bible. It would give you a sample of his teaching 😊 www.gcbi.net/
Thank you for sharing about the Tropicana field! That is so funny ,and it just goes to show how overwhelmed with life’s circumstances we are sometimes. It’s because it is full of our kids’ algebra and science.😅
I didn't like Simply Grammar, a Charlotte Mason grammar workbook by Karen Andreola, because my mind is always a blank when it comes to using my imagination in the realm of filling blanks. I was better with fan art and fan comics when I was a girl and a teenager and fan fiction, mostly haiku, clerihews, mega crossovers, parodies and adaptations with existing characters. I tried making up original characters for Christian alternatives to Pokémon, Harry Potter and South Park, but I struggled.
Wow! You did it again! These videos are real! I really appreciate this video you wouldn’t even believe we are going through something similar and your response just helped my brain so much 😊 Thank you 🙏🏽 All Glory to God ❤
I hope you take some time off next week! This was our week off too and I’m really considering taking some of next week off. Ugh it’s just too much mentally sometimes, isn’t it? I’m so thankful your grandmother was safe through the storm. Thank you so much for your prayers through all of this- the Lord kept us all safe ❤ I’m praying for Sean during the changing of seasons in his career! God will always make a way, even if it seems crazy to leave! He could have much bigger plans for your family that you can only dream of! ❤❤
@homeschoolteenswithjenny Sporcle is a website that challenges you to name everything in a certain category. Sometimes players add a challenge to it by typing out the answers in order, like chronological or alphabetical.
I do the same thing as you. If something isn’t servicing my specific child then I try something different. I like to challenge my child but not make them feel defeated with curriculum. Nor do I want them to hate learning. It is a fine line for sure. I’m glad I’m not alone with trying to find the right curriculum to help my son where he’s at. Great video. Thank you!
Life of Fred: The first book is super easy. As the series continues, it does get to where it says it will. I will say that unless u enjoy the stories, there’s no purpose lol (my opinion). My 8th grader is currently in the second book but she likes the stories and thinks they are funny. She does it once a week to give her a break from her regular grammar program.
Thanks for the update! I’m looking for chemistry for my son for next year so the updates have been great! Just curious, did your son ask to take drivers training? My son is also in 9th and when I asked him he said he didn’t want to 🫠 it’s so odd to me since I couldn’t wait to start when I was younger 😂
You're welcome :) No, he did not ask to take driver's education. But in our state, if he doesn't go to the class, then there are requirements to be met at home. He DID ask about a month ago to start back up with his driver's training with me and my husband, but he is having a very hard time. I have read a lot about sensory processing disorder and learning to drive, and it is a very hard thing for those kids to navigate. So, we told him we will go at his pace. But there are some pretty strict laws in place on what he has to do before he can get his real license.
@@homeschoolteenswithjenny oh boy! My son also has SPD, ADHD, dyslexia, and APD 😅😅🤪🤪 so this will be interesting 😂 In our state he has to take it through a school, we can’t do it at home unfortunately. Thanks for the info! He has another month til the class starts that he can take it so hopefully he changes his mind.
@@Ibyte8256 I just have to assure my big guy that it's okay to go at his pace... it takes a lot of patience. Another thing I have to remind myself is to NOT compare him to other kids his age.
On the worldview days, when you need to read the Bible passage, it works MUCH better if the students use the God's Story book. The God's Story book summarizes the chapters of the Bible and makes it easier to comprehend the story and summarize it. Also, I don't worry about grading this summary. I just want to see that my student read the story and knows the basics. I save the "grading" for the essay projects, not the worldview days.
Malawi is a very interesting and sad place. One of the 3 poorest countries in the world. A member of our church lives there 9 months of the year spreading the gospel. They struggle many years with both famine and floods. Our preacher goes once to twice a year and we've had several members of our congregation go. It's a very interesting dynamic because there are both cities and villages with chiefs.
Thank you SO much for taking the time (twice!) to record this review, Jenny. It was so helpful! I love that it is literature based but also includes videos and hands on activities. ❤ My son loves Geography and countries, so this may be a good fit for him. THANK YOU again!!!
I'd love to hear more about how you're implementing the beautiful feet books Geography curriculum with Josie. I'm considering it for my 9th grader next year. Does she just read and you guys discuss? Is there a writing component to it? Thanks ❤
