Welcome to Farmboy59 RU-vid channel. This channel will have video’s of my 1959 McCormick Farmall 140 plowing, cultivating and planting garden. I’ve been around the 140 Farmall all of my life and used it in about every aspect that the tractor was designed. I hope you will find something useful in the videos that will help you with your Farmall.
I hope you enjoy the videos and have a blessed day.
Glad to hear ya doing better. Wish you could make it to the plow day. Me and Blanton farms gone have our 2 59 140s there. That hand seeder does an excellent job. I have 1 I use in small spots. Up until this year i used a lawn spreader behind the atv. I get my wheat out a local farmers grain bin. I found a cheap cycle seeder that’s for a draw bar and it fits nicely on the trailer tongue that goes on the bottom of the pull bar on the fast hitch. I have a video coming soon of it spreading lime and wheat on the 140
I'm glad to hear you're doing much better Brian. I'm a firm believer in sowing wheat. I remember years ago, everybody sowed rye which was fine if you could plow it in while it was little. If you had a wet spring though, it would get shoulder high before you know and then there was no getting rid of it unless you cut and bailed it. The 140 is looking good. I always liked the looks of those first generation white face 140s.
Thanks Mark. That’s one reason I didn’t plant rye due to Dad planted it years ago and it made a swampy spot in the field of where the garden is and it still stays wet when we have a lot of rain. Good to hear from you and take care of yourself.
I’m jealous 😂. I messed with my single bottom last weekend and adjusted and moved and changed this and that and about half of what I plowed turned out like yours and the other half didn’t go in the ground but a few inches. I may need to take the subsoiler to it and try again. I try to leave a winter cover crop on everything but I’m using this small spot for a test plot on the plow. Yours were doing great
Thanks for the comment. My single bottom was doing the same thing the last time used it, but after some adjustments it seems to be working fine now. My double bottom works like a hero. It doesn’t seem to have any issues digging up the ground and making easy work of it.
Thanks. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do that so it really felt good to get in the old tractor seat again. Your video was really good too and looks like you’re drying out nicely for plow day. Hate I’m going to miss it.
@@Farmboy59 mine had a straight pipe on it when I got it but that was 1 of the first things I did was put a muffler on it lol. I thought about sitting 1 on my M for just a night video to see the flame blowing out of it lol
I’m been pretty blessed this year with the drought. I only lost all my cucumbers and about half my squash. The rest made it. I watered about half it. Some out the well and some I carried water to it. Even the corn and peas that I didn’t water is gone make good. My wildlife sunflowers look like they gone come through good. Hate to see you loose most of it after all the work and time you put in. It’s a sad feeling for sure
@@Moorefarmalls Thanks for the comment. This year was a true test for me just starting out in the garden. I had several to tell me to water but when you don’t have a water source close it’s hard to get it done. Gods in control and next year hopefully will be better.
Thanks for the comment Mark. My tomatoes are doing the same and they have started dying back this past week. Everything else has done what they can but dying off also.
@@MarkWYoung-ky4uc You ain’t kidding. I cut my green beans under last week and going to do the corn this week. Planted eight rows of white running beans and never got the first batch.
I heard the noise while I was at work and stepped outside and saw the woodpecker on the metal light post and he was just pecking away. I heard it again around 3pm and it was back and doing the same thing. It was just wild watching it peck on that metal post and I couldn’t image what he was feeling when he was doing it.
Garden looks good my garden most things are up and I hope to be picking squash this week but I planted green beans in a 125 foot row only one came up so I planted Lima beans twice and got three plants
Thanks for the comment. I felt like I had a good stand even though I had some that didn’t come up. I have replanted those areas and I have a good stand of green beans. I’m gonna pull some potatoes out this weekend and see how far along they are and just keep watching it grow.
Looks great. All mine was looking good except that last spot I planted corn on. Crows got every plant n pulled them up after they got about 2 or 3in tall. I’m gone replant it this afternoon hopefully
@@Farmboy59 they only hit 2 spots of mine out of 6. They cleaned that 1 spot even with flagging hung all over it. I got a f350 as a decoy right now lol
Brian get some Liquid Fence and spray it around your garden. I've been using it for years and as long as you keep the scent out there, the deer will stay away. Your stuff looks good. Over the weekend, I had 3 inches in 3 different rains. We used to plant Golden Queen corn. Hopefully we can get back in it by about Thursday.
Looking at the field the sun is not in that area why would you plan something that's in a shaded area when you have the rest of the field that's in full sun
The ground in this area has approximately 2-3 foot of better topsoil. On the sunlight the morning it has full sunlight and the evening sunlight sometimes is warmer. I’ve had the tree line trimmed recently and now I have more sunlight. I will have new video coming soon on the growth over the past few weeks.
You got some good looking rows Brian. I always said if a man gets the disks set perfect, he needs to weld them down tight. I actually bought an old set of cultivator arms I keep my disks on all the time. We used to plant Kennebecs. They are great potatoes that keep well.
@@Farmboy59 hey man, I'm sorry I missed you, I work 3rd and I was asleep yesterday when you messaged me. I'm working tonight and will be off tomorrow night, maybe we can talk tomorrow
Great looking tractor Brian. I wish I had a dollar for all the people that used to tell me a Farmall was good for cultivating but weren't for turning land. I rather have a dollar for every furrow I ever turned with a 140.
