It’s an Insta360 x4. It shoots 360 degrees, and then when you edit, you can choose virtual camera angles and zoom, and it produces a normal video from that.
Interesting to see how you trail them on a stringer off the stbd tube. We had considered doing that this year, mostly to keep the catch cooler if we want to keep trolling an hour or two more (no room for an ice chest/bag). I was worried about the fish going into the prop, but it seems like a short tie far enough forward is okay. Although with 3-4 big cohos on the stringer I'd think it'd start to pull the helm when steering. Are these coho or pinks? BC? Looks like silvers but surprising you were able to land some without netting.
Keeping them on the stringer allows me to bleed them as well. I've also sometimes put the stringer off the bow cleat, which works OK in smooth seas. The drag is minimal compared with the big drag on the other side from the downrigger. It's hard to keep the boat straight regardless. These are a mixture of Coho and Chinook, and yes in BC. Note that the Chinook minimum length in BC is 45cm, so much smaller than Alaska's 28". My intent was to always net them, but in those situations I made a snap judgement that my chances were better lifting them in than trying to get to the net and juggle the net, rod, and so forth with the fish thrashing away.
It was! Limited out on nice salmon that day. One issue I had this year is battery life on the camera. It’s an Insta360 x4, and the battery lasts a little over an hour, so I couldn’t record an entire fishing trip. By next season I plan to have hard-wired power or more batteries.
you have eight minutes to get through.... when it ebbs, it is draining over 80 miles of inlets, all uncharted...even the orca's know not to try to run Nakwakto...
Good video. The only thing I don't agree with is having a set of "wobble" or "rounded tip" Allen wrenches. I've had the ball snap off and stick completely ruining the bolt. I'd rather modify the wrench by cutting it off than use a rounded tip Allen wrench.
I've gone through when the tides were just perfect and made that channel on the East side a giant whirlpool. Seemed like the whole channel, but in reality probably about half the width. Not very big tides, but just the right mix.
Try getting some video of Roaring Hole Rapids on a big tide, it's much more impressive than Nakwakto, despite the lower speeds. (Nepah Lagoon) Only on a big ebb tide though, otherwise it's just average.
Great job. I can't believe more people aren't commenting. Lol. I know this is 6 years later but very educational. I read all of you flotillas and love. Them. Maybe one day for me. Great job and thanks for your wisdom and sharing your experiences. 👍
