Everyone can go fast in a straight line.Very few people are asking what this car is capable of the engineers have built you a runner.Push the pedal on the right more often
I did a road trip down to the south of France with some friends a few years ago. At the time I thought if I am going to drive through the French and Italian alps, I wanted to do it in a Porsche Boxster S. So I bought the cheapest Boxster at the time on eBay with the intention of selling the car after. 12 years on I still have that Porsche. Couldn’t bring myself to sell it. I have since replaced all suspension items, had the callipers refurbished. Spent £4k on it. Drove like new and was T boned on a roundabout having only covered 400 miles. Wrote the car off. I bought it back from the insurance company for £1200, then spent another £3500 on it, getting it back on the road. Twice this car has saved my life. I will never sell her!
You need to compare the Abarth to the previous version with the extra power ideally. Plus I don't think you even mentioned a crucial ownership trait that is reliability.
I did the same with my Smart, also a euro 4 model. It maxed out at 178 km/h which felt bloody fast. The engine got so warm that it hardened all nuts and bold, when you put a wrench on they just sheared completely off. My Smart lasted 1,5 year until the engine was a complete right off and had to be replaced. Still i had the most fun while it lasted👍🏼
Hi Mate, Can you help. After watching your video 2 years ago i also got Ian to remap my Brabus 451. Now 2 years on its having massive issues starting and also seems to be overfueling. Just wondering if your 451 is still running ok as i cant seem to get hold of Ian for some reason. Cheers
It's a different concept -- detuning peak power can be for many reasons. The 7-year extended warranty, trying to lower insurance premiums for its target age group market, even getting round government tax systems in some countries that have a factor for vehicle power. When they aren't shipping this model in vast enough quantities to do too much customisation of power tunes from factory, it makes perfect sense to have a strong and economical engine as a base, purposefully detune its peaks (or even downplay its official performance figures), but leave in the obvious possibility for tuning (as this car has been for over a decade - a tuner car). Reviewers coming in to the lightest hot hatch on the market with an above average handling and manual gearbox, then dissing it for official straight line speed specs, aren't doing their jobs. The point of the SSS is to bring the hot (or warm, if you insist) hatch to as many people as possible. It's just like how the Mazda 3 in the UK could have come with a 160hp maximum, but deliberately chose to limit the top end to 120hp on the 2.0L. It's a smart, considered and subtle approach and as you clearly felt, the point of the car lies in other strengths, so it felt no need to boast regardless of a 7.5, 8 or 9s century sprint. The buyers who know why, will know.
