The reason for your increased bmi is your diet. Exercise alone will not fix your excess weight your body stores. What you need to do is find your maintenance calories through trial and error. Take a week and jot down what you have eaten and record the calories (dont worry it get much easier . Then eventually autonomous) find the average then cut it 500 calories from that and stay consistent. As you lose weight keep adjusting accordingly and go for walks as well. Eventually something magical will happen after months and months 4 or so of doing this. Your body will physiologicly change. Your stomach will shrink permanently, your hormones will start to regulate increasing your metabolism and the weight training will help increase metabolic tissue. If your weight loss plateaus drop the the calories another 300 and start moving more. Eventually after some time your body will start to resist the diet and when this happens reverse cycle it. Slowly add calories every week back to maintenance and then drop them again by weekly cycle after you hit maintenance. To add muscle takes years to grow a substantial amount sorry to give you this news but better to know and accept the journey. Its all a life style not a quick 6 month fix.
