"Waru - Journey of the Small Turtle" is a production by Bangarra Dance Theatre that beautifully blends Indigenous Australian storytelling with contemporary dance. "Waru" means fire in many Torres Strait Islander languages, and this production specifically highlights stories from the Torres Strait Islands. In Waru, the focus is on the small turtle, and the performance is a celebration of the natural world and the close spiritual connection the Torres Strait Islanders have with their environment. The dance unfolds with a narrative about the turtle's journey, signifying resilience, survival, and the cyclical nature of life. Through powerful choreography, vibrant visuals, and a deeply resonant soundscape, Waru connects audiences with the rich traditions of the Torres Strait Islands. Bangarra, known for blending traditional culture with modern dance, uses this production to honor the storytelling traditions and cultural significance of the turtle, while also highlighting broader themes of environmental protection and community.
We just saw the show last Thursday in state college PA and unfortunately we had to leave before the end because I had to work the next day and it was a 2.5 hour drive from where we live but I would definitely go see him again it was great! I was going to stay but my man was afraid I’d be too tired to drive home so I’m a little sad I didn’t get to see the rest.
Fabulous - especially your generous sharing in word and video of inspiration, concept and some of the process. Much appreciated. Yes I've seen the same spacial installation works (constructed 3D spatial outlines and also via laser) here in Bris years ago (one of the installations at the recent Powerhouse Nightfeast too inspired spatial reflection/exploration in this way)... a thoroughly inspiring design concept for so many other creative expressions. Well done as always for following through in the creation of a new work- wishing you a really successful season.
@@kobywiggle sorry I can't remember. I am pretty sure there was an intermission and I think it was somewhere about 1.5-2 hours but we went a pretty long while ago so I am not sure. I just remember really enjoying the show.
