I remember them sounding like this on full cry ton up on both engines with 12/13 coaches behind them back in the late 1960s, was quite a regular occurrence, but there were plentiful spares on hand so thrashing them wasn't such an issue as it is nowerdays, as the spares stock isn't as readily available in preservation. For their time they were magnificent performers, no doubt about it with 3,300 hp on tap!
Dang that sucks there’s gonna be no coal trains in the UK anymore! Here in the US the clock is ticking for the “roadrailer” train operations and coal trains are slowly disappearing in certain areas due to power plants converting to natural gas (I think)
Britain was the first country to make extensive use of coal. Now it's one of the first to leave it behind. The coal power plant it was delivering to (the last one still operating in Britain) was built over 50 years ago, and will close later this year. Wind is now the largest single source of British electricity generation (and has grown 5x in the last 12 years).
