Flow Mix Recipe I Usually Use:
5.5 oz. Elmer’s Glue All
1.5 oz. Floterial Flood
.5 to 1 oz. Distilled or Bottled Water
If you don't have this... You can use: 70% Glue all or Clear Glue and 30% Distilled or bottled water. I have seen other artists use 60% glue and 40% water. Play with this recipe based on the type of paints you are using.

TBH, when I do this I'll put my glass over a light frame to see the density of my colour. I reckon you're working part-blind when your glass is sat on a brown backing.

I usually work over a white table no back light. I couldn't tolerate looking into a light table to work because i am prone to migraines. Still not the same as a light table...but works well for me so far.

This was awesome!!! And really pretty!!!! It looks like stained glass! Who knew? Thank you for sharing your gift! My daughter is searching for an at home income since she has some health issues. We were thinking maybe stained glass until I saw how much work and expense were involved. Then I found you. Is this something that would be successful as a part time income? Thanks!

I hope you get to see the beach theme tiles. They were done with resin on these same discarded tiles. Much more durable than acrylic paint that loosens with water. Try that instead if you are putting them in an area with water.

I hope that you are still checking comments… Does sun/heat effect or melt the glue, making it run?
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703 6 месяцев назад
Sun or heat never makes it run, however if the glass is not completely clean before starting, you may see some peeling. Sun may make some fading especially with alcohol based inks. I use dye based inks and I've had some pieces that have stayed intact for years with minimal to no fading.

I have done stained glass for over 45 years as a business. In the past I did try the overlay technique using color film. It looked very nice, but over time I found it did not stand the test of time. This technique is intriguing and I may have to look into it since I have many clients who balk at the cost of true leaded glass and this being a much more reasonable alternative. When leaded stained glass window may sell for $600-$2200 depending on glass used and number of cuts, this offers something that may be more appealing to someone on a limited budget. Thanks for sharing.
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703 7 месяцев назад
Yes. Stained glass is always preferred and lasts a lifetime and longer. I have pieces that are 10 or more years old from this technique. I hope you get a chance to try it.
@xander9564
@xander9564 5 месяцев назад
If this technique was applied to UV-resistant glass, or plexiglass, the dyes would be more lightfast from the back. Then, if needed, a glossy outdoor UV topcoat could help protect it on the front.
@xander9564
@xander9564 3 месяца назад
Just to follow up, I found that mixing the dye-based inks with Liquitex High Gloss Varnish (which has UV protection) instead of with Elmer's Clear Glue also works well. Because it's less viscous than clear glue, I apply it with the flood-fill technique, using pipettes. It dries to a hard glassy finish. With this technique, there are no brush marks, it looks like clear colored glass sheet. The inks I use are Stampin' Up Classic inks. Granted, Liquitex is more expensive than Elmer's but it depends on whether that extra UV protection is important or not.
@xander9564
@xander9564 7 месяцев назад
Brilliant process, and looks great. One question, though: how durable is the image? Do the colors fade or the glue/paint lines come undone with time, exposure to heat and sunlight, and so on?
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703 7 месяцев назад
I have pieces that have hung for many years without peeling. To prep the glass or acrylic piece, I use windex then do a final clean with alcohol. That helps avoid any adhesion problems. I find that there is some fading with reds in direct sunlight especially ones that are done with alcohol inks. Now I only use dye based inks.

I have been using the Tulip Slick Dimensional paint (black lines) and Mod Podge/Food Coloring mix to paint faux solar powered lanterns. They are gorgeous....however, in order for the fairy lights to work, they have to recharge in the sun. I'm in Texas and the sun beats down hard on our second story deck. Some of my lighter colors (pinks or neon bright colors) have faded completely after one season, even after sealing the pieces. The lanterns are still functional and pretty; still have the stained effect, but not as colorful as in the beginning. Just letting you all know.
@artempouriumarteveryonecan6703
I'm curious how your Tulip paints are sticking. I have not had success with any puffy paint sticking for very long. if touched.... if I don't touch it it kind of remains in place.
