it's hilarious you like the naked steering on that ski, now. the reason they've been padded forever is because if your grip slips bouncing in rough water you kiss the middle of the handlebars. one slip and you're going to the hospital to get your chin sewn up or the dentist for new teeth without the classic padded casing on the handlebars. the only older jetskis that didn't have a padded case on the handlebars were the racing ones, where the riders all typically wore full motocross helmets on them.
