As someone who writes songs, I can always tell when someone writes their music. I don't what it is, but you just know. You can feel the connection between the artist and their craft. And people in the comments here are saying "we can tell" as if it's a diss or something. Yeah, it's not great, but it's not bad for self-written. The reason I say that is because at least she's writing it. I'd rather know somebody fully wrote a song and have them feel it than for somebody to release this amazing song and then find out they didn't write it. I'm not saying songs have to be self-written to be good, but many times people will record songs and talk like they wrote it, when in reality they didn't. I have notbing against co-writing, my issue is when people have writers and act like they don't. If you write your own songs and they're great, awesome. If you write your own songs but they're not as good, that's fine. If you co-write, that's ok, at least you tried. Yes, Ice Spice is not always on point with the pen, but at least she's honest with writing, she connects to her music and enjoys it. I'm not trying to compare but an example is Cardi B. You know she doesn't write. She';s admitted it, but even if she never said that, you could still tell. The connection to the music is not there, she passion isn't there, her attitude does reflect a writing style of any sort and you can definitely tell that the few good bars and/or songs she hasn't weren't written by her. So while Ice Spice is growing her skill, I can see that she writes, and I'd prefer having a 5/10 writer who's heart is in it rather than some amazing 20/10 rap/song that was ghost written.
