The worst thing about the three bands I was in was the bass players. Talk about sour attitude. As the guitarist it always fell upon me to setup and tear-down the PA. The drummer(s) insisted that they did not understand the stuff and the bass players made it clear that it was beneath them. Funny enough it was the bass player who ultimately broke the band up.
Thank you for posting this and explaining it so succinctly. I'm midway through a build and dropped the body while working on the binding with a router. I opted to save my fingers but dropped the guitar on concrete, cracking the binding and the top. I've been hesitant to remove the top but I think maybe I should now so that I can inspect for loose braces.
No one in China running Glarry gives 2 fucks about this. the guitars could have an electric default that kills 1 out of 10 people playing em and they'd still ship these over here. We buy em for 80 bucks off amazon so prob only costs them 15 bucks to make. this is garbage and if you buy one you're.. (well eh if u need an axe eh, but really?) ur garbage too.
I personally would have also looked into replacing the trussrod since you went through all of the work of removing the fretboard. Great video and great work regardless! I'm also the type to not ever charge someone for my mistakes and for work I'm not confident in.
Linkin Park: "In the End"??? I used and like the Shure QLXD bodypack wireless system to make my mixer completely wireless, like at 7:00 pm tonight in Point Edward, Ontario for a men's hockey league that I do sound for.
Thanks so much for this video, I'm planning to do a similar repair on an old Yamaha classical and this is super a useful (and beautifully produced!) resource to have.
Hey man. Thanks for the videos! I'm in the middle of my first guitar build and your vids are awesome. I got a DVD with the kit a few years ago (pre-covid) but it has since broke. Stew mac said they don't have any vids online for the build but the guy told me to watch your videos when I inquired about online vids. lol. Cheers from Nova Scotia.
Makes total sense why Kiss decided to put on a total spectacle even when they were young and broke. You really have to so something to stand out otherwise you get lost in all the noise.
I built a stewmac dreadnought in 2004 and it turned out great. Stewmac even sent me Mahogany B&S as well as end blocks when things went awry. I like their products am looking to build another acoustic ( I have made/repaired too many electric guitars I've lost interest friends only now). Is that Rosewood Looks like it.
I can't wait to do this! I've owned so many guitars now over the years I couldn't name them all, lots of Les Pauls, a bunch of different ibanez (Ibanezes? Ibanezs? Ibanie if you would? Not sure what the plural for that would be). A few months ago I traded my ESP LTD EC1000 in the matte black finish (with gold hardware, damn matte black and gold look so good together) and picked up an Ibanez RDG61ALA in black with the rain forest colour, first time usng fishmans as well. I had only ever used EMGs before but its really cool how many different tones you can get, neck, bridge, neck and bridge, pull the knob for a second voicing for all those or flip a switch that turns off one coil in each humbucker. Also was the first guitar I've had with a 26.5 inch scale so its awesome for playing in C standard but lately I've been playing just as must clapton or hendrix as I have black dahlia murder or lamb of god so I really want a strat for that type of sound and building one sounds like it would be far more fun then just buying a squire classic or cheaper fender strat. Stewmac is definitely the kit I'd be going with but I think I'd be going black and gold again cause I loved that colour scheme. Get the gold bridge and gotta have some locking tuners. I love the gotoh locking tuners, once you've had a guitar where you just push the string through, clamp and cut regular machine heads feel laborious lol. Looks and sounds awesome, I also love that pickup guard too. Definitely be saving this video for when I go to build mine!
Every member needs to have the mindset that you need to play to an audience on what they want to hear (that equates to what gets them engaged and moving)- NOT songs that you want to play as a band. Again- its about the audience and not for the bands own self gratification of what songs they like. #1. Mistake IMHO. Song selection and playing to the band’s strengths - both musically and vocally is extremely important!!!
The diagonal lines work because of Ptolemy's theorem. A caliper might be more convenient and faster to use, but it might also introduce some errors due to the mechanical and human factors
Choosing a GOOD band name without someone in the band hating it. Everyone in band has to like the name. Decisions via band vote.. Guitarists who hog all the songwriting/song contributions and don't let you have a shot at bringing some music to the band, every ideas has to be from them.
I’m a guitarist and have wanted to get into building one forever. Recently, I won a stewmac giveaway and will be receiving a kit soon. Got any other pointers? I have never done this before and I am really scared. I don’t want to mess it up. I have unfortunately quite the perfectionist mindset.
A couple of things .. Cutting those bridge pin slots do 2 things .. 1. They change the brake angle of the strings. This really does affect the sound .. moreso the volume and sustain... 2. After a time when the angle changes .. and it will , then you'll have to sand the saddle lower to drop the action. And you'll probably do this 2 times before you actually have to reset the neck.... when you do this , those bridge pin slots ar going to have to be there in order to have any break angle... so might as well have done during the build ..It only takes minutes.. and you dont have to have solid pins .. you just turn your slotted pins around .. Lastly .. hope you don't take this wrong .. but... you really do need to learn how to hold you pick properly.. I know it feels funny at first ... but If you don't practice it until it becomes natural you will never be able to advance in your playing... because this is so critical .. Not saying this to be mean .... Just trying stop your bad habit before you have it burned in for years and will be harder to brake.. Hey . You took the time to master some chords .. a proper pick hold is a whole lot easier to learn than learning only just one single chord .... Guitar looks great ..

Make friends with the painter at your local autobody shop. I deliver parts and can get bodies done for about $30 if I use what's in the gun at the time, $50 if I pick a colour. I do the sand/prep/seal and hand it over. 2 coats of clear on top which is good to wetsand smooth.
Here's an (odd) question: do you know of, or have see, acoustic guitars with removable tops? in other words, the top is not glued to the body, but somehow "fitted" in a fashion that will allow it to be taken apart and put back, without having to deal with binding glue.
These are issues with gigging, not simply being in a band. If all your band does is record and release music and videos, most of these points don't matter. Once you decide you want to play gigs, that's when the drama and pain in the ass begins, and all these points are spot on.
