I will acknowledge the thing about kill buyers, but they don't come to this specific sale location which is held only once a year. The horses that are brought and sold at this sale are some of the very best of these breeds. They are given the finest of hay and grains and pasture. At this sale they bring too much money for the kill buyers
@@andrewyoder88 thank you for reiterating this it’s just I see many fine horses including drafts sent to their fate and kill buyers buying them for very little money
Beautiful horse. Isn't it time to retire the auctioneer's patter? It seems ridiculous that modern-day people are influenced by the auctioneer's babble.
I've been going to these sales for close to 30 years and I honestly don't believe that the auctioneers have much, if any influence at all. The buyers at these auctions are extremely knowledgeable about the horses and know what to watch for and how much they can afford to pay.
I thought they outlawed bobbed tails , do you realize how short their tail is just cutting off all the hair , without actually cutting the tail it's self , sad ??
As far as I know docking the tails is not illegal here. Close to 100 percent of the time It's done when the horse is less than a week old and the owner will keep an eye on it to make sure it's healing properly. They don't do it once the horse is older since it would be much harder to do and also more painful for the horse
Ya the only draft horses you'll see that don't have docked tails in the show rings is some type of pleasure class. Halter and hitch classes all of them have docked tails
Too many of these horses do NOT look like draft horses anymore, neither in body nor in disposition. And allowing oversized feet as well as forced up heads with overchecks that are too tight doesn't make this any better.
Ya the desired look of the breeds has changed over the years. This sale especially is a lot more known for athletic and sleek and high stepping show horses. Other sales like the one in Waverly Iowa have a lot more of the traditional pleasure/work horses than Gordyville
I agree. I think the senseless maiming of all animals is butchery. Docking tails, cutting ears - all just to change the animal into whatever some person thinks looks cuter. Totally disgusting.
Your ignorance is appalling. The reason draft horses don’t have flowing tais is it gets caught in traces of harness and could severely injure the horse when working. Get a life!
@@angus9941 it is not ignorance. Docking is unnecessary and cruel. Anybody who thinks otherwise belongs back in the dark ages. A horse's tail can be plaited and tied up out of the way. Docking is done for convenience, stop with your ignorant bullshit.
Charlotte what do you prefer? In many communities the local auction market is the life blood of the local economy. It provides income for the workers in the market, provides income for the gas station owner and other businesses. It also provides the competition to provide a true market price.
