I was driving in North Carolina with my wife and toddler son and went through the drive-through at MacDonald's. We ate in the car and I got out to throw the trash away---and ten local cop cars suddenly surrounded me. I had a semiautomatic in my waistband, VISIBLE when I got out. I put the gun on the driver side floor and left the door open and moved aside. They put me up against the car and took the gun. I told them I was law enforcement and showed them my credentials and badge, but they continued to question me, saying they didn't recognize me. I wasn't local, but state, in town visiting my in-laws. They said my agency didn't issue semiautomatics; I said that was correct but we could qualify and carry with our own. They said I was carrying concealed! How did they SEE it from a distance if it was concealed? They never said. Two were pointing their guns at my toddler son. Apparently carrying openly was reasonable suspicion for a stop and frisk, even though legal. They never explained, but eventually let me go.

If they did all this sounds like you can file a complainant. Not sure why you are tellling me this story and you should be speaking to their supervisor.
@@livinginnorthcarolina181 When I was active (43 years) I could carry anywhere except federal courthouses. They wouldn't even let me in with a disposable Bic razor. Now I'm retired and utilized the LEOSA 2004 to carry, but that requires qualifying once a year with the organization you retired from but I can no longer do it as I am physically unable to do it--broken back, bad knees, etc, (I can get down to prone or kneeling well enough with gravity, but getting up again is a problem---I'm 74) so I have to just go with a concealed carry license, which lasts 5 years.

Hi James, I’m a mortgage broker, and I live in Sanford, but on the Chatham county side, near Pittsboro. Downtown Sanford is really coming along since I first moved here in 2019. Houses are still affordable around here for the most part.
I don't know what it's like there today but I was stationed at Ft. Bragg for YEARS through the 90's. Crime was out of control. Everything seemed run down and trash was everywhere. I have to say, I was more than happy to leave. And now with the military gone woke, I can only imagine what it's like there now.

We do have lots bugs here and it's worse during the hot months. Snakes I have not seen one in a few hours, but I do live in a urban area of the city. I don't hike or hunt so I'm sure more are seen there.

You say this includes grocery stores that sell alcohol. LANGUAGE/LOGIC lesson: AND is not OR. If you have ever arrested someone for carrying openly with a permit in a grocery store, you have broken the law.
I misread this general statue and you correct grocery store does not count. It has to be SOLD and CONSUMED which does not include grocery stores. Somebody called me on this in earlier comments.
