With it being for aps-c does that mean the focal length numbers are actually what they say they are?
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 3 дня назад
Lens numbers are always the same so you have to apply the 1.52x crop factor when calculating the field-of-view and equivalent aperture. Here's a quote from wikipedia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor ): Lenses designed for the smaller digital formats include Canon EF-S and EF-M lenses, Nikon DX lenses, Olympus Four Thirds System lenses, Sigma DC lenses, Tamron Di-II lenses, Pentax DA lenses, Fujifilm XF and XC lenses, and Sony Alpha (SAL) DT & E lenses. Such lenses usually project a smaller image circle than lenses that were designed for the full-frame 35 mm format. Nevertheless, the crop factor or FLM of a camera has the same effect on the relationship between field of view and focal length with these lenses as with any other lens, even though the projected image is not as severely "cropped". In this sense, the term crop factor sometimes has confusing implications; the alternative term "focal length multiplier" is sometimes used for this reason.

@@ScottJWaldron that's strange, with it being for the cropped sensor why not just put the actual numbers on thdt it will be haha, thanks for the reply
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 2 дня назад
@scratchgonzo The way I think about crop factor is if I were editing a photo on a computer. You'd take the normal photo and crop it in the editor by 1.52x. Doesn't really have anything to do with the lens and what numbers are used to define its properties. It's all about the camera. Like getting half a sandwich at a restaurant instead of a full one. All that is happening is you see less in the APS-C photo than you would using a standard full-frame camera because it's cropped out. The whole designed for APS-C lens thing is odd, but just a cost saving measure. That's why you see APS-C lenses like 10-18mm. Or small digicam/smartphone lenses with like a 3mm lens. They are trying to get a wider field-of-view to compensate for the smaller sensor. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focal_length en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-number

But nothing beats a photographer taking a picture. But I guess for concept artwork it makes sense. Then you can change the work, add to it. Kind of like a sketch. Not something I do, but good artist can make this kind of a thing well, but I guess it could be used to make the job faster. But using copyrighted photos is illegal, so AI would qualify with that, unless the law wasn't written well enough for this. I won't be surprised if there will be laws preventing or limiting this in European Union eventually as they they like very strict and sane laws. But so far no rumors about this. The EU seems so much better with situations like this. We have issues in the USA with corporations overreaching and the government not doing enough about it. Yeah, I know of the Apple USB-C thing. These USA corporations are so money focused they would rather lock in a customer than give them the best experience possible. It's not only USA corporations. Timely topic, Scott. Nice three-handed guy😊 - bet he has lots of fun when out on a date😂. EU is more attuned to personal privacy-hence their govt agencies are sort of on top of this. Here, the behemoth companies have way too much sway, IMO, and Congress is struggling to catch up. Years ago when Instagram was taking off, I actually read their “terms of service”. The document said that by posting any image the poster gives Insta the right to use it, in whole or in part, any way they please, for as long as they please, without author compensation or attribution. I recoiled at that and never joined. BTW, noticed there were two versions of the thumbnail for this post - one said “fake” a few times and the other didn’t. IMO, the one saying “fake” conveyed the message better than the other one, and hinted that the pic of you was real😊. Cheers!

RU-vid has a feature to upload 3 thumbnails. It monitors the data over time and decides which is "best" based on watch time share and whichever one is preferred (probably similar to CTR). Most of these social hosting platforms have similar terms so they can distribute the image uploaded. Though I'd hope there was something regarding deleting of images.

Credible demo, Scott. Careful application of this type of product is key (as is later removal). Touch screen still works - check. Flip screen lock, OK? Check. How about glare/reflections compared to “naked” screen? Quality of glass (re-scratch-resistance) can vary w/these covers; follow-up “long term” review would be in order, IMO. What does the literature say about “life expectancy”/replacement? To keep dust down perhaps this would help during install (used for sensor cleaning environment): in bathroom run shower briefly and let humidity settle - then apply screen as you show. BTW, noticed something new in my general YT feed for this post. Beneath the thumbnail was a notation panel “1 Product Earns Commission” with drop down arrow - when arrow tapped, panel states the product and $8.95 price”. First time I saw such a panel - only in general feed, not in Notifications listing. Is this something you initiate? Cheers!

Clean removal is definitely an important consideration, though difficult to test long term because then I'd have to plan a video for a year or longer and hope the product is still available by then. I don't know if that type of detailed information is available for what are basically disposable items, but it's possible. I got these from Amazon which different than the integrated link in RU-vid. Yeah, those other points could be useful though everything takes time. My goal right now is to make simple review videos of my Nikon gear before I consider selling it to KEH or MPB. I had these screen protectors sitting since November 2023 because the juryrigged one was alright. 😄(a spare from a pack I bought for the Nikon AW1 I no longer have) The integrated product link thing is me, yeah. I got that feature a few months ago. It all depends on if something is available. Works like regular affiliate programs but it goes through RU-vid and I think an affiliate network (probably one called Impact based on the stores I've seen). I assume RU-vid takes a cut of the commission so maybe not as great as a direct link like Amazon ones in my descriptions/pinned comments, but it's better than nothing and get prominent placement on RU-vid.

My KEH selling experience has changed over years. Years ago when selling them gear I thought their ratings for my gear was very fair. Starting 2-3 years ago it has gone bad, way bad. An example: I was leaving for a three month trip soon and my favorite Hasselblad lens shutter died. So thinking I would never get it back from repair soon enough, I also ordered a lens from KEH graded "Like New", and it was. However my repaired lens showed up the day before our trip so I put the KEH lens in my display case behind glass, in a temp / humidity controlled room. When I got home sent the lens back to KEH as I did not need two. They rated the exact same lens, in exact same shape, three steps lower at Excellent. After a call they would only go to Excellent plus. I expected the loss from buying retail and selling back wholesale, but not from being screwed on condition in addition. So people out there praising KEH for how great they are for selling them equipment that looks better than the rating - its because they screw the seller they bought it from. They have rated other gear since lower than it should have been according to their descriptions so I now go elsewhere.
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 17 дней назад
Yeah, I understand what you are saying. I agree that giving you a lesser rating isn't a good way to do business. I'm generally not sure how to respond to that scenario, though I think it would be a great video idea to test all of the camera gear resellers and see what happens with rating swaps. Logically, I'm not sure why these resellers would even bother to tell sellers what they rate it rather than provide simple dollar amounts that they want to pay. Seems like a waste of time from a business perspective, right? So from my perspective as a seller of gear to them, which I've done multiple times (I'm also an "affiliate" that makes a bit of cash from links to them and other affiliates like B&H/Adorama, so keep that in mind...) I mostly care about the convenience of not having to deal with random people on ebay or locally. Before KEH, I used to consign gear at my local camera shop but it closed down. I'm also not thrilled overall on the dollar amounts I get from KEH, but it's so much easier and a time saver. I've considered selling to MPB or maybe Robert's camera, but KEH has been consistent and I know what to expect so I've kept using them.

Your vids have ok amount of views, but so few likes. I can't see why people dislike your vids. Not sure why your vids don't have more views. Your channel has massive subscriber count, yet the views and likes are surprisingly low. Sony has decent lenses. But nice third-party lenses too, but I've not tried them. Sony Sony 85mm 1.8 is quite decently priced, minimal distortion, and with lens profile it's barely any if any at all. But it's so light it makes it unbalanced, and harder to shoot slow shutter speeds. But lets in more light as its 1.8 vs 2.8. 24-70 GM II is not cheap, at 70mm there's minimal distortion, doesn't seem to have any with lens profile, but 50 and below has lots, especially 24mm. So I have to correct it in Lightroom the distortion in some cases, and then straighten it out to have straight lines. I've not tried other lenses yet. I got both for a nice price.

Yeah, I've been doing this a long time and still not sure how to make videos that appeal to a lot of people for my work to be suggested. Most of my viewership comes from searches. I recently tried the Sony 85mm 1.8 that a friend bought and let me use at a renaissance faire with his new Sony A7r V. That should be a future video once I'm able to edit it. The lens offers a good amount of detail but also has visible chromatic aberration. It's possible its his copy of the lens or normal with how high resolution the camera is. I'd probably still get this lens if I do move to Sony to replace my Nikon 85mm.

@@ScottJWaldron Definitely a great lens, especially for the price, especially second hand, mine was a bit banged up I think someone hit the focus ring too, but it's fine, So it takes some abuse too I guess, it only made it a bit smooth to focus at one spot, otherwise it's fine. But the slow shutter speed and weight issue can be solved with a tripod. But shooting at higher shutter speed it's never been an issue, but the lightness of this lens feels unbalanced with a7Iv at least. Yes you are right it does have, in some photos lots of it, so much in Photoshop, you have to use layer masks with different versions of the photo edited i camera raw. But so is the case for the 24-70 GM II. But in some photos there's not much of it. But the 24-70 GM II has morse code chromatic aberration, yellow, magenta, blue, green. The 85mm 1.8, never had this, I think this is due to the how the 24-70 GM II glass is.

21:10 If you had time, there wouldn't be anything wrong making a video on it, even if it's short and you would not use it just cus of one bad thing. good or bad product, reviews get views.

17:22 I don't know your PC specs, but IF you want fast software Rawtherapee is nice, but not as powerful as Lightroom especially with sky mask, that's for sure, but was fast on i7-4790K. But not tested it properly on a old and slow low end pc, But loads fast even on a slow pc I forgot the CPU it had, but didn't try to edit on it. But I think I tested Adsee, it was fine on my pc, but it's a super fast beast. But for some reason I did not go for it. I don't remember if it was due to ARW compatibility or the software it self, or the price. But when working with images where there is sky, I need to use HDR to edit it in Lightroom. So I need a software that can do this, in addition to a good sky mask.

I've used Rawtherapee a bit. Seems pretty cool. I'm still on an old Intel i7-6700 based PC build though I'd like to do another build hopefully sooner rather than later. I did swap my GTX 1060 6GB for an RTX 4060 8GB somewhat recently which helped extend the system's usefulness a decent amount. I'll carry over the GPU once I'm able to get other components. Looking at CPU scores compared to the i7-6700 there isn't a whole lot worth spending probably over $800 to get the rest of the components. Maybe the new 9000 series AMD once the 12 core version comes out.

@@ScottJWaldron That seems like a decent cpu and slightly better than the one I7 4790k I have in my previous pc. But with GTX 980 it did not do well for editing. Had to render at slowest speed when I use 2.7k video in resolve. RTX Asus 3090 TUF does it fast at max speed. 🚀👌 I se eit scored 213% higher in Passmark CPU Mark, sa wit on technical city, just discovered that site now.

9:10 They should send it as a gift. No contract, nothing written, just send it, mark it as a gift on customs label. Maybe a lawyer could help with this, but I don't see a reason why you should pay tax on it, unless there's a written contract where you agree to review it and the item is the payment. 10:47 They should've covered the cost.

These videos are mostly useless. Sometimes you might just get some useful info, if it lacks one feature, or see something you don't like or like you might have it just on the look at it later lis, but it's rare for me to find info, I would not find by seeing the press photos, or short preview. I was skeptical with Insta 360, but I will boycott them. One mistake like this can ruin a company's reputation. I see the stock price dropped with Intel after the failing CPU and wrong microcode issue with 13 and 14 Gen. Probably might have happen with Insta 360

Yeah, Intel has had pretty serious problems. They've claimed to have fixed the issue through microcode recently but we will see.

Why did you not get the Barbie or Hello Kitty version? But seriously the results are horrible. Not my thing. Unless you want the old camera film look then it's pointless. And a bit pricy for what it is. I guess the target demographic is people who want the challenge of editing and film. But most people have a smartphone, even the worst phone cameras will do better than this, even the retired Cat S50 I used years ago. But I see there are still some retailers in Norway selling film. But love that I scored a A7IV second hand from a dealer, and later a 24-70 GMII lens too. But if someone wants a cheap and small camera and don't care about 4k video, I would go for a second hand A6000.

I like Snoopy as a character (a bunch of NASA collabs) and it was available locally at a department store. Bought it for a fun background object. Yeah, it's definitely not for people that focus on image quality. Though I feel like having to scan or digitally photograph film adds an extra layer of quality reduction to all film photography. True, the A6000 is a good deal these days. Maybe even a A6300 for a bit more. I used an A6000 as my PC camera where I film most of my videos now. Just recently bought a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. At the wide it there is distortion so I don't think you'd like it too much but it feels like a good upgrade for my setup over the 16-50mm kit lens.

@@ScottJWaldron I guess someone else has to dress up as Barbie then😜 but seems like a nice prop to have in the background.

One concern is the plastic buckle. But it's likely fine. But if it's a quality buckle it sohuld last for many years or decades. But not a bad idea to inspect it regularly anyway. I've had plastic buckles on backpacks, the ones Evoc uses last longer than the backpack. I'm not sure who makes them, nor who makes the one shown here. But time will tell.

Yeah, I don't have a huge amount of trust for those but the third lock helps. An old one I have doesn't do the quick release thing which seems like a better long term option without the extra feature.

Is this company run by Shakira? Waka Waka 😛 But on a serious note, this strap looks like a good product. But it's not for me, as I prefer a hand strap instead for easy use when cycling. But if walking at an event I see the benefit of this too, if you don't want to hold the camera and put it back in bag or backpack.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, it's pretty decent. A friend gave it to me because he had two of them so I can't give a great opinion value but the price on Amazon in the USA feels like a good deal compared to ones like the high-end ones like RapidStrap.
