slightly wrong, built on the sight of a previous Welsh stronghold, that was styled on a Norman style motte and bailey. This was created by the people who fled the sacking of nearby dolforwyn castle.
My parents lived in one of those old Police houses a few years ago, Phil & Elaine Watkins, it was the corner house opposite the School entrance, I wonder if there use to be a tunnel under their house.
Hi Rory, your video is absolutely rivetting. Where is the first part though? Many thanks for that mountain of knowledge and all the stories you have to share. You are Newtown's star. We love you. Please make more videos. X

I remember Frank, Don the flash was a mate of my brother. The tannery used to stink! Great memories and what a personable chap Rory is. Very enjoyable even for a sceptic!
the worse that i witnessed happen in Newtown was the closure of the Bear Hotel and turned in to a shopping precinct, use to enjoy a good pint in there of a dinner time and the odd night out with my mates, they should have kept the Bear Hotel open and built the shopping precinct somewhere else, it wasn't as though the hotel was doing badly because from what i saw it was always fully booked throughout the year
my first house was on Maesyrhandir house no 355 our solicitor got the Montgomery district council to house as we was homeless as Newtown development houses(i think that's what is was called back in the 80s cant remember based at ladywell house) wouldn't house as we had no job then we got a house of the development and we lived at the bottom of Trehafren in one of the 3 storey houses
before i get to where Rory Evans says what the hanged man said i will say it as i heard it when i was taken on a visit to his grave i think it was Montgomery church, jail, or somewhere around there anyway and was told that the hanged man turned round and said to prove my innocence nothing will grow on my grave for 100 years and ive just told my wife what hes about to say ive finished it off what he said and she was amazed that i knew what was about to be said
i remember the bear hotel as i lived in newtown when it was there and left after it was demolished to make way for that shopping precinct what a waste of an historic building my first job i had in Newtown was at Pryce Jones's i always wondered what the building was on the corner and i once thought it had something to do with Pryce Jones as the buildings are identical and now ive seen it was
Rather than emphasising and manufacturing a particular sound to meet a particular standard I wanted to create a documentary that focused on what people said and not how they sounded. I interviewed many traders who may have moved to the area, many of the local councillors have also moved here years ago and other members of the public and business owness have also moved to the area which should say something about the area and the town. Each person that was chosen had something relevant to say. My choice of final edit interviews were based on subject matter not they way someone did or didn't sound. I don't believe people with a particular sound should have priority over others just because of an individual subjective point of view. The aim of this documentary was not a paid project and was created to raise awareness and money for charity and is still raising money for wales air ambulance. I believe in equality as should all, however there might be enough welsh sounding people in the full 2 part 70 minute documentary for you.
DVD's are available of the 2 part documentary for £5 at the Robert Owen Museum. £2 of each sale will go to Wales Air Ambulance. Contact Intrigue Videos or Oliver on 07572240593
