This is the song that came on randomly just as I was about to scroll through music videos. It hit me instantly, Lone Ranger has a hook to it that just reeled me in. You've done some great work mixing this masterpiece and thanks for allowing us inside your studio! I damn sure hope Julianna tours the east coast of the U.S. in the future. I ordered that LP the night I heard it. Thanks again Aaron!!!
good call my friend. she's a pure talent. and your mixes are very tasty as well. you got some great musical IQ. you're on pedal steel in the cbc clip? too bad i'm just seeing this now. that bass guitar on the album is mean!! and you can never have enough organ - kinda like cowbell lol
this is gold. thank you so much mr goldstein. why did i never catch that sax. love it. the organ's there for sure. love me some organ. there's also something in your recording of the vocals that i love. "by we i mean you". open and rich but a bit distant at the same time. weird but great. white hot all day long. the attitude is there and that appeals to me. love how she usually pronounces the lyrics right to the final consonant
As this fantastic peak behind the curtain continued, I got more and more excited for the callback section "with the three Jules's". Damn did this ever deliver. Very cool! Would love to watch more of these. (Headed over to "You" now)
So glad I stumbled across this - You is one of my favourite tunes of 2022, and awesome to hear it broken down like this. The record sounds sweet all over - but yeah, this is my favourite. Was she using the Rickenbacker (3…60?)? Got to see her with both Carson and Daniel in northern Norway in the summer - really hope to see The Outfit back her as well in 2023 up here. Thanks again for this …
Great that you preserved and transmitted some of the original tracks. Great instinct. Tell us about the vocals: any compression? Her voice seems like it would naturally cut through any mix. Did you have do much with it? Double tracking? Etc? Sounds great.
If memory serves, JR sang into my U47 clone, by Advanced Audio in BC. I had a Ward Beck ST console at the time, with the M520 pres. LA-2A in the insert almost certainly, but it doesn’t sound too crushed to me. Don’t think there’s much double tracking on this record, certainly not of the lead vocal. But I am a big fan of doubling backing vocals. And again, she sang every one of her own harmonies. She sang virtually every note on the record with the exception of the couple moments where I chimed in.
It warms my heart to see how into this record you are-at least as much as I am. I can’t stop spinning it! Thank you so much for doing these. Seriously, it’s really awesome to get to peek behind the scenes.
Thank you so much for posting this! I think All Blue is my favorite album of the year, and having a breakdown like this is way beyond the coolest thing ever. You are all geniuses and I hope you make more incredible records together. I would absolutely love to see more breakdowns like this!
This is great! Amazing job on the track. Really great album. I would love to see more of these break downs. Looking forward to grabbing a copy in Winnipeg on Oct. 23rd!
This is excellent! Really let’s her vocals shine, thanks for breaking this down. Would definitely love to see more of these features from all of your other past works.
Woah!! this is the good stuff!!! If you do another, maybe Pity? The Hammond B3 and guitar solo tones are impeccable. Also, speaking of da doo ron ron being referenced in Lone Ranger, is that a T Rex ref in Why Do I Miss You?
