I never watched "The Colbys" but I was obsessed with "Dynasty" when I was 13 when it was on syndication on FX. I was so excited when Jeff and Fallon returned and every night I watched, I kept hoping that the UFO would come back, and I was disappointed that they didn't explore that story more. Now that I'm grown up, I understand why. A sci-fi plot would have been extremely out of place on "Dynasty."
You have got to give the producers credit with coming up with such a storyline. Dallas had "the dream sequence" The Colbys had the UFO. In fairness there was quite a lot of stuff in the media at the time about UFO abductions. Good effects for the time.
WOW, I was a kid when this came on and I remember my mom saying that it was the most expensive tv show to produce at the time, something like a million for that scene alone. There will never be another Arron Spelling.
i just read an old interview with Paul Huson who was one of the producers of the show, according to him the reason why they chose this to end the season was because the Shapiros figured with a cliffhanger like that ABC would have to bring it back to explain what happen but alas it didnt work. But the most interesting part was he said the premiere would have revealed that Fallon wasn't abducted by a UFO at all! the whole thing was in her head! the scene was supposed to have been a hallucination!
I loved it when The Colbys got cancelled after this episode, the UFO dropped Fallon down on Dynasty so to speak. Ridiculous! My brother and I cracked up at the episode when it first aired.
I remember seeing this episode (or the clip rather) as a kid of about 4 or 5 years old, and always wondering what exactly it was from. Watching it now 22 years later (and knowing "Dynasty"'s history), I must wonder drugs what the writers were on when they suggested this?! This makes Pam Ewing's dream look like Shakespeare.

i remember this finale. i was so sad the series ended. it deserved to stay on the air. connie colby was my favorite especially the actress's real life connection to linda evans: hello BIG VALLEY! clever to send emma samm's fallon off into the great unknown beyond at the close. very cheecky indeed. always wondered if the writers were actually saying how they felt about that character.
This finale was ridiculous. Even the cast thought it was a joke when they read the script. An obvious ploy to attract viewers to a dying show. All it did was destroy Dynasty along with The Colbys.

They should've just hired someone else to take his job instead. Dynasty was already at its peak, but then they all let it come crashing down with this script!
