!!It's Omnibuses!! I didn't know what the plural is actually - so I never tried to use one.🙃 I did suspect it had to be the same as bus/buses. Scalped is a good story. It feels more like a book than a comic book having that lingering mid-part. And in a way it drags the reader into that hopeless and empty existence the people on this reservation live. Always a good idea to get more Blacksad. I have the 1st album of Tardi POW series in my TBR-pile. Didn't know there was a collected set available. I'm sure they released it two minutes after I did my order. They always do that. T.H.E.Y. is an evil organization bringing new comic book sets to market to make me feel constant FOMO. I'm beginning to suspect you're part of that organization...
T.H.E.Y do hate you. But don’t worry I think you are ok. Exactly how I felt about scalped in a sentence there. That lull in the mid point was absolutely pointlessness personified. I’m hoping reading it in one chunk as opposed to 10 trade will changes up things a bit.
The only real superhero stuff I read is X-Men (and related series), Daredevil and Batman so im eyeing the X-Men Mutant Massacre Prelude and X-Tinction Agenda Omnibuses (!) and Daredevil by Chip Zdarksy omni vol 2, as well new editions of Harrow County and Kabuki. Also tempted by Scalped as I've never read it and the Jason Aaron and Rick Remender Punisher omnis which are coming back into print
Great list. My wish list for the rest of the year includes The Savage Sword of Conan Omnibus vol 1 forma Titan Comics. I have been waiting for one year alrededor. Hopefully they will release it this year 😅
have always enjoyed your vids. so many books coming I think there's a lot to entice us older collectors with some fresh printings. I'm not sure about Scalped because I have all the deluxes and like you mentioned the start and end are the highlights. I think i'll wait to see what the paper/colour reproduction is like on that one.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I think with the price point the paper is going to be pretty normal and if the deluxe editions were cheaper o would go that way to re read.
I googled the plural of omnibus as that point really stuck in my head. I don't know why it's taken me this long to verify. The bl**dy idiots calling them Omnibi. Plonkers.
Great list Chris.👌I'm waiting for Scalped omnibus vol.1 too, and Final Cut by C.Burns, the Complete Harrow County hardcover, Strange Girl deluxe edition, Daredevil omnibus by Zdarsky vol.2.😊
@@OffMyShelves That was before your own wallet comment btw 😂 Yeah, I don't know what's up, but I've bought loads the last couple of months. It's either places having sales, or several new releases or stuff coming back into stock, but it's ruined my "well-behaved year so far" 😅 Remarkably not read any of the Zelda manga series despite being a big gamer and fan of the series 🤔 Twilight Princess is actually my favourite so that might be somewhere to start... So you cracked on Vinland Saga 😂 I sold the 5 volumes I had before the first deluxe was released as I figured the value would drop and knew I wouldn't be able to resist anyway... Mind you, I haven't actually grabbed any of the deluxes yet. Might have to do one major "haul" in the new year. I petition renaming November to NOOO!vember 🤣 P.S. I forgot every app/site these days just turns asterisks into bold text 😅 I'm probably too old-fashioned by using them to **show actions** anyway 🤷🏻♂️
4/4! Haven’t heard of any of these and they are all interesting. Do you do a lot of research before buying or do you just trust your gut instinct when ordering?
Glad they are of interest! It’s a bit of both tbh. Sometimes I look up a book for ages and read many previous and maybe even read a chunk digitally. I’d say for instinct happens but more research before just as money and space and time is limited so I’m careful about every purchase.
I didn't write my first comment at the right place. I was talking about the hardcover of Nemesis the Warlock. I would have thought you would have chosen HC. But SC is already fine.
It's OffMyShelves: X-rated Edition 😂 Great overview, and I love the variety here :') I'd seen Search & Destroy around and liked the cover but didn't pay enough attention to realise it was based on Dororo! So thanks, that's bumped up to a higher list 😂 Really liking all the sewn binding paperbacks again - top Fantagraphics quality as usual (I believe Dark Horse follow suit, but worryingly the last Image compendium I looked at was just glued.) I had noticed I have quite a few landscape comics (still need to pick up Private Eye). An interesting format but still can't decide whether it adds enough to justify the irregular shape and awkwardness of fitting it on a shelf alongside others 😅 P.S. Another cool t-shirt!
@@daxhalo 😂 I got it through the monetisation too! 👍 I never understand why the larger compendium’s don’t have the sewn binding just to give it a longer lifespan if anything. Tiny by comparison book by dark horse and others have great binding and are still priced normally. Glad you like the t-shirt!
Delights was the first Guy Colwell comic in many years, but he was a fairly well known name in underground comix back in the day. His five-issue series, "Inner City Romance", published by Last Gasp was really leaps ahead of most with respect to its criticism of the prison industrial complex and the war on drugs. Social issues are the core of most of Colwell's comics, and it was interesting to see him find an angle to include some of it into a fictional story about Hieronymus Bosch.
I've got all of Master Keaton and BPRD in my to be read shelves as well. Trying to jump into some Tardi crime books now and work through but there are well over 200 collected editions waiting to be read! Yikes.
@@peterlinfield yikes indeed! The Tardi crime books with Manchette I enjoyed. Gonna pick up the POW stories next. And it goes without saying BPRD before Keaton!
It's my favorite comic book of all time, the one that truly caught my attention as an adult. As a kid, Aliens & Aliens VS Predator and TMNT. As an adult, going back to the mid 80s TMNT was amazing which lead me into Kozure Ōkami/Lone Wolf & Cub. My only complaint with how much I also loved the movies as Ōgami Ittō played by the actual Judō & Kenjutsu Samurai actor Tomisaburō Wakayama, where is the videogames or anime adaptation? I want more.
Cowabunga! You read BPRD finale🕺I really like how the series ended though it was unfortunate Arcudi wasn’t there to write it. Your slow crawl through Tintin albums reminds me I haven’t read any for a long time. In fact I don’t remember ever reading them in the order they were published🤔I did that to Asterix last year to get it out of my bucket list. I get your more relaxed take 100%. I’ve slowed my own tempo so much that I might forget having a channel at all😅
I haven’t forgotten you have a channel so feed me content! He was a proper talent and his hands are all over the mignolaverse in the best way. I don’t think I’m technically reading them in order as the numbering was changed at some point. 🤷🏻♂️
Great to see you back, and with a fine selection of meats at that! I too feel the Absolute of Superman for All Seasons is one of the best DC has ever made! Im liking the widescreen and new colours as well! Looking forward to more!
@@ftloc glad we are on the same page appreciating quality books as always! Thanks for the kind words as ever. The wide screen I just liked ascetically, not gonna be to everyone’s tastes but I like it. And the colours are all natural. I’ve decided to be really kind to myself production wise as colour grading, more b roll extra images, graphics all these little additions were taking the fun out of it for me. I will still do that for some but equally I’m allowing myself to just record, edit and share, easily and straightforwardly. In other words I’m relaxing more.
@@OffMyShelves I really hear what you are saying. I am constantly struggling with that balance! On one hand the "need" for all those things you mention makes each video that much more effort- and time consuming. At the same time, I like the difference they (usually) make, and I also like learning about them. But then I don't actually want to do them! 😁 A lighter type of video is definitely a great idea, relaxing more is ALWAYS a great idea, and I am going to see if I can learn something from you. I think you'll keep playing with the widescreen to find angles/compositions you like more and more. It makes for a nice variation and is something I am trying from time to time as well. But I have to say that as much as I like the vibrance and contrast of the colours here, I also liked the more low-contrast, muted-colours look you had in your earlier videos. It gave your videos a particular look and unique identity. But most of all I just appreciate the trying out of new and interesting stuff when you could just have stuck to one thing.
It's August, Chris 😂 (Just teasing 💜) Ah April, I was reading more then. I've let things go a bit the last couple of months and been buying more than I've been reading 🙈 Part of that was collecting stuff before reading through it properly though, so I've finally got all issues of the Sweat & Soap manga and am working through that at the moment. Oh, also recently read the first volume of Friday (Brubaker) and really enjoyed it, so will be on the lookout for volume 2.
@@daxhalo I thought it was May!! 😂 you’ll get back in the swing of it soon I’ve no doubt; mine slowed a bit in June July too but it’s picked right back up now. I love Martin’s art in Friday and other places and I’m saving that story for the eventual all in one edition that will no doubt be along soon. ✌️
Great stuff as usual. I could comment how 3 months between videos is unfair for your fans. Especially your no.1 fan. I could comment that but I won't. Clear to see you've been very busy reading some outstanding quality stories. I had a sneaky peak on Goodreads and looking to forward to mays overview.
I’m trying to hold fire on the BPRD omni’s purely from a cost point of view. I did have all the trades way back and thoroughly enjoyed them all…so I just may have to pull the pin on that lot! Great to see you back 🤙🏼
I've been expecting this one to come out. Thanks for reminding. I hope they keep it in print as I have quite extensive gridlock in my tbr-pile. I need to process that before buying more.
I put this on my to-buy list. Looks amazing! I think 2000AD has this available as hardcover but only through their own website if I'm not mistaken. But to be honest this looks so well done I don't need the hardcovers. Hellboy specifically in your logo is just the right place. Always great to see you in YT.
@@analogcomics through their website and so comic book shops so you may get it through some direct market retailers. The paperback is more than up to the task though tbf. Always great to see and hear you too mate!
Well hello there 😄💜 That is a good looking book. And good job calling out the sewn binding too! I'm actually seeing that more often on paperbacks these days, which makes me very happy 😁
Thanks for inspiring me to get this book after all: I realised I'd coincidentally be in London this afternoon and that he'd be signing copies in Forbidden Planet! 😁 (Also as a sidenote to the other thing briefly mentioned before: I had a peak at the new DC Compact Editions and was shocked to discover they have sewn binding too!)
The art looks incredible!! Looks right up my street! I've just ordered it, you should get commission 😂✌️ I'm 50 and remember Slaine WAY back in the day but it's been decades since I read any. I'm hoping I can go in blind on this one and it's a self contained story.
@@geminisundone I need to be on commission! 😂 hope you enjoy! As you know there are lots of Slaine arcs and this one is considered up there with the best of them. The book contain book 1, 2, and 3 of the Horned God arc so it is a complete story just obviously you can go a little before for more of the character and a lot after.
@@geminisundone they seem to be doing the definitive edition sizes for other Sláine arcs, they are smaller but still great quality books. Nothing on this size for the moment I think.
I flattered that you think they are good enough to be put out there for others! I would never put the out there for others though as it means a lot to me that they are uniquely mine and one-offs.
